I'm Hoping to Compete on American Ninja Warrior 14 - Advice Please! Hello once again all, sorry I've been less active on here. I'm sure I've mentioned this more than enough, but season 14 is the first time I am trying to apply for an ANW season. This comes with an application that I've heard isn't that bad (plus my writing ability is believe-it-or-not slightly less atrocious than my on-camera personality ).
So I've just edited a draft introduction to myself - heavily featuring the playset, one of my top training tools. A bit early for a December deadline, you ask? I've read about this and they say to get there early (to be given more attention as an applicant and even get possible tips to improve your video if they actually want you on the show which is a big if!). Anyhow, here's the video:
Yes, I HATE changing the speed of clips, but otherwise half the video would be those monkey bar laches alone There will be later snippets and clips that are longer (and have at least a bit more immediate pay-off, rather than all endurance stuff).
Coming up here are my planned "topics" (each about 30 seconds of video:
-My younger sisters and how they impact my training (my fluff piece): I have filmed some clips of helping my baby sister through obstacles and some where she's clapping for me etc.
-Running XC/Track: Some pics and possibly a video of me finishing a race, explaining how being part of a team helped me
-BRIEF explanation of how I've competed in a couple of comps & first Wolfpack Ninja Tour (not dwelling on this one because most competitors have been in more comps than me!)
-Clips at the park/on playgrounds
-Doing different things to mix up my training/get creative (I'm not trying to present my training as WaCkY, but things like taking off my clothes - not all of them obv! - while hanging from a pull-up bar, bouncing a ping-pong ball while hanging from a bar, using my neighbor's electrical spool as a balance tank, etc.).
I don't know if anyone cares about this lol, but if anyone had any immediate thoughts while watching/reading this post, please let me know! I wanted to share this early so I have time.
Re: I'm Hoping to Compete on American Ninja Warrior 14 - Advice Please! Good luck! Look for things that make you stand out and you know they love a story. You might find yourself at a point where you've gone over the limit and are having to find things to remove to shorten it - so in clips where you're doing ninja stuff, make sure to prioritise visually interesting or difficult moves - show them your capabilities. The stuff you've mentioned so far sounds really good and might help you get across your personality too, because of course they're looking for people who will come across well on camera
Re: I'm Hoping to Compete on American Ninja Warrior 14 - Advice Please! That would be cool to see you on there. You probably would do pretty good. Oh, on a side note, does anyone know how I can try signing up for ANWJ 3?
Re: I'm Hoping to Compete on American Ninja Warrior 14 - Advice Please! Thank you both for your opinions! I made the next part too, will post in a bit. I'm not sure how I feel about my audio situation - I tried to overlay my voiceover with the audio of the clip itself in a way where the two aren't competing. In a way I like what I did with the editing because it feels a bit "creative" compared to my usual simpler stuff, but at the same time it feels awkward. But I'll upload that in a bit!
Re: I'm Hoping to Compete on American Ninja Warrior 14 - Advice Please! Here are the first three parts together!:
The middle part is going to be a bit tougher it seems so next I'm going to put together the ending while I wait for YouTube to let me upload more clips This video is on my backup channel for that exact reason!
Re: I'm Hoping to Compete on American Ninja Warrior 14 - Advice Please! I had just finished a second version of this video, but to my worst nightmare they are requiring the Covid vaccine to compete. The legacy of me just missing out on the chance of competing agewise has now been continued thanks to the world losing its mind.
Re: I'm Hoping to Compete on American Ninja Warrior 14 - Advice Please! Awww that's a real shame you're going to miss out. If I'm honest I agree with the vaccine mandate and it should smoothen up filming for them with less risk of people having to pull out last minute for covid reasons. You could contact them and ask if they allow unvaccinated people with medical exemptions to compete?
