Re: The Suicide Squad Special (Season 8 Episode 11)

This is probably the best episode we've had all season. While them shoving in promos for the movie did get annoying, it did help the episode stand out. The dubbing in zone was probably the worst of it.

Knowing that this is 816 and that it uses the Hoop Hopper makes me a bit nervous. We know that 820 is the Sucker Punch episode. That makes me wonder if they have a different starter for 811-15 or if they're using the Hoop Hopper for more than 5 episodes. Getting a new starter that we haven't seen yet would be really exciting but I am doubtful.

Re: The Suicide Squad Special (Season 8 Episode 11)

So we're still up to the same old tricks. I held out a ray of hope for some surprise changes and improvements, but didn't catch many (any?).

Qualifier's two new obstacles were okay. Hoop Hopper us a generic name, but in some ways I like it like that and the alliteration does it nicely. It seems to be too hard as of course they have to raise the hoops, but still alright. I liked the montage being focused around this one obstacle though.

The Rumble Bridges were not shown very much, but it's a surprisingly small gap this time! Still tough because they have a wide range of motion.

Good to see more Big Balls and a few successes! And Smallsy has a voice. The voice is amusingly bad and a perfect representation of the new show - just cheap compared to the old one. I kind of love it for how dumb it is though.

Another thing that hasn't changed: Lots of Jiggleator and not enough Body Blender!

Keeping the same intros for the final three obstacles is so lame. We're going to hear them each 20 times then. They should definitely have a different one for every obstacle each week, but they could've at least done something different for the "special".

Yeah, the special really wasn't much of anything. I thought the contestants would at least be people from the movie (which did seem a bit OTT for this show), but of course not! One positive I noticed was that there weren't any of those stupid intro packages, were there? Or maybe there were some that I missed, and in that case it's a positive thing that I didn't notice emoticon Although if they are gone it may just be in favor of those stupid gifs they showed this week. I guess they're scenes from the movie, but I'm not sure.

The graphics they use during montages still look so cheap emoticon Like something I could almost create if I put a weirdly strong effort into doing so. It just feels unprofessional!

Pummel Pool was disappointingly exactly the same, BUT round 1 was really good. We even had a fail on the final leap. Actually, we had two! That was a very exciting ending, made more excited by ten previous weeks of no one failing in that spot. It was exciting, but still not worth all of those previous disappointing endings emoticon While I praise for the exciting round, it's actually really disappointing they haven't even tried to make this jump harder. In the upcoming weeks, I'm sure it'll be back to being unfailed! The race to the finish was crazy tho!

One thing that amused me was the Suicide Squad guy just standing around in the booth and still standing there when they cut to the hosts. I'm not sure it was meant to be funny, but I'll give them credit anyway emoticon

I have noticed that I am liking Camille more as the show goes. She's definitely the closest thing we have to the old show and she brings some of Jill and Vanessa's energy. She's not as "extra" as John and Nicole often are and it feels natural, like it did with Jill.

The lady talking to Nicole the whole time during the Zone was interesting. The Firefighters were very impressive throughout, and were very impressive in the Zone, but it's disappointing that we're once again seeing the Zone being destroyed with ease.

This is better than nothing, but still a far cry from the original. In fact, I was watching an old clip on Facebook today and thought "If only there'd be a new Wipeout episode!". Then I realized there was one tonight, but then I remembered how lame it would be. It certainly doesn't have that feel the original always had.

So they've split the opening pool again with Hoop Hopper and Rumble Bridges?

This hasn't shown up in the usual places, not that it sounds worth watching.

Is it the only episode for now - was it bought forward to coincide with the movie release?

Seems like a one-off. It definitely seems they made the decision to make this a "special" far after the fact as there's nothing at all special about the on-field action. So the main season could still be a month or two off.

I just looked up Wipeout TBS and saw that TruTV is apparently now rerunning the new show - episodes 9 and 1 are both airing on Wednesday night. You won't want to miss them... oh wait you will emoticon

Double bills of the TBS series will really highlight how repetitive it is - even if they have different starters the rest is pretty much the same.

I doubt there are many episodes of the original run with exactly the same obstacles - there is at least a theme variation later in the qualifier where they have the same opener.

Yeah, it really won't make them look good. Also, it's another chance for the casual fans to see that the course hardly even changed for the Suicide Squad ep (and the 9 after, as we know).

They're slacking on the social side as well. Other than the booth stuff they'd put up beforehand they've added nothing from the episode itself.

Once again searched to see if they're any more new episode coming up and there aren't, BUT even more reruns.

Episode 8 today, then episodes 1-4 on Tuesday (eps 1-3 all airing one after the other). Is ANYONE watching these? emoticon

The E4 airing has now moved earlier on Sundays to 5.40pm, though still in the sort of slot where there is a decent early Sunday evening audience to capture.

The 4Music repeats of earlier seasons have now moved on to Season 4 and must be doing quite well as they're being used in late afternoons, late nights and at weekends too.
