Keeping Keshi Heads Going

I hate for this to be the first topic I create in probably a couple of years, but... emoticon

Unfortunately the last year has been hard - for everyone, I don't need to tell anyone that - and because of that some things have got to give for me finance-wise. Rent, bills, etc can't give, so sadly it comes down to nonessential monthly costs - and one of those is the hosting for Keshi Heads.

But of course I don't want the site to shut down after all these years, it'd be so sad. So, and this isn't something I ask lightly, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to group together and donate a little to cover hosting charges.

I hate suggesting this because I've never asked for any money at all in the 17 years of running the site (and I've never made any money either, it's all been for the community 😅), but currently it seems like the only option.

I was thinking about setting up something like a Patreon, where anyone who wanted to could donate a pound or two each month, if they were able. However, these things usually have rewards attached. So the question is, if you were happy to donate a little towards the cost of Keshi Heads, what would you be happy to receive in return? Also bare in mind that I don't have a load of spare time to make anything amazing for the site, for example 🙇

Another idea I had was to create something little each month on a print on demand site. Something like a sticker, which would be the cheapest option to keep the price as low as possible. So, for example, I'd release a special sticker (or two) each month, and the profit from that would go directly into the site hosting fund. But would anyone be interested in collecting stickers every month? And then there's the postage cost on top to factor into the amount to pay (I don't know how much this would be, it depends on the printing company).

I had the idea of some kind of collectible trading cards before stickers, but there's no where that'll print those on demand. However it reminded me of when we had Monkeee 'trading cards', and members had their own collections. So a virtual collection could be an idea? But would anyone be happy recieving something non-physical in return for a donation? Maybe not.

Anyway, these are just some ideas! I want to know everyone's opinions!

The main points:
- Would you be happy/able to donate a little amount towards the monthly cost of keeping Keshi Heads online?
- If yes, what would be the maximum you could donate (even if it's 50p, please let me know as I'd like to work out the average between us to see if this is viable)
- Would you like to receive something in return? If yes, what would you like it to be - all ideas welcome!
- Would exclusive/'collectable' Takeshi's Castle stickers be something you'd be interested in, or something else?

Honestly I don't expect anyone at all to donate. This isn't something to pressure or guilt anyone into anything at all! I just wanted to be open and see what the general opinion is.

No one entered a free competition to win a mug last time I tried to give something away, so for anyone to want to help with money I think is a long shot, but there we go emoticon
Or maybe we could start something fun here and keeping the site going would just be a bonus, you never know.

Wow, this is sad but understandable after this past mess. I would be happy to donate a few pounds per month to keep this site going. It's a great collection of information and we still have people stumbling upon it when they look up the show. Plus, this forum has also been amazing as it's managed to gather a group of really friendly, interesting and considerate people on their common interest(s). It may sound stupid, but the internet would be missing something without Keshi Heads. Most of it may not know we exist, but they're the ones missing it emoticon

Anyway, I wouldn't mind collecting digital stickers/trading cards at all! The main goal of this is to keep the website alive so anything else would be a nice little bonus. Plus collectibles for each month would be cool and may motivate people to chip in. I really wanted to try a trading card system myself last year, so why not do that again? We could at least get some people onboard maybe.

I really want to donate although unfortunately will have to run it by my parents first when we get it all set up. It's a shame, but a lot of our newer keshi-head seem to be very young and will therefore likely have less ability to donate.

Just for your info Dan, I unstuck the Inbox and Custom Title threads (which I think I may have stickied in the first place) so that people have less to scroll through to notice the new post. It was getting kind of dense with sticky topic before that.

It also might help to post this in the main TC section too? I can't be sure, but I feel like a lot of people don't even scroll down this far to notice a new post here (or simply assume it won't be of interest). It makes most sense here, but maybe a post in both sections will increase

I feel like only we and a couple of others regularly look in here. This theory may be proven if no one else answers emoticon

Sorry to read all this. I will strongly consider making a donation providing it isn't too expensive.

Re: Keeping Keshi Heads Going

I've just looked into the cost of physical stickers. They're priced at around £3.30, with £1.99 postage. So it'd be just over £5, £1 of that would go towards the Keshi Heads fund (RedBubble, who seem to be the best option as they print and ship from UK, US and a few places in the world, keep the rest).

So whether anyone would pay £5 for a sticker is questionable, especially as only 20% of that will actually go to us. So maybe that's out.

I've just been looking into way to create a trading card series online, where you can have a real collection and open random packets. I found what looked like a really good place to do this, but then it way £10 a month, so that defeats the whole point. emoticon

Thank you Zaku, that'd be a huge help, no matter the amount!

I think setting up a Patreon would be best, unless anyone has any other ideas.
I'd still like to give something back to those who help out, especially as that's how Patreon usually works, so all suggestions are welcome!

Are there any services that aren't as popular as RedBubble that may keep less of the money? I have no idea, but that would be a lot more viable, whether it makes the sticker itself cheaper for us or ensures that more money is actually going to the site.

Looking at Patreon they actually print and send items themselves to people who donate. Obviously the cost of it comes out of the donation (plus extra fees are removed from all donations) so I'll do some calculations and see if it's good value or not emoticon

Looking into Patreon some more, it's a monthly subscription, which I didn't realise.

I think I'm going to have to look into the options some more.

The site costs around £150 a year to keep online. I don't know 8f we'd be able to raise that much anyway (probably very unlikely), so I'm not sure what's the best way forward at the moment.

Still open to any and all ideas!
