Roku have also announced in the last few days they'll have the Australian version in the UK as well (not sure if that means it'll leave Amazon) and in the US are launching a channel dubbed "Wipeout Xtra", which from what I can make out is just Total Wipeout UK - so very much the opposite of "Xtra".

Re: Rewatching Wipeout
I like both of those spin-offs, but "Xtra"
Now I feel like that classic Wipeout vibe won't be back, y'know? I know they may be going for a new look and all to keep things updated, but it looks cheap. Just like the new Facebook banner - looks like something one of those cheap knockoff shows would use

Re:
Half way through the Winter Wipeout portion of season 5 now. On the whole I think the opening qualifier obstacles are much better than the first Winter edition, and in hindsight the Winter Kitchen is probably one of the better "kitchen" obstacles. Snowfall is a bit boring though.
I think the second and third rounds are some of the best of the latter years of the show - Pain in the Ice was nice and different to what we'd had before and I really liked Cold Hearted Snake too - though maybe the two rounds were a bit too similar to each other. The Zone though IMO is one of the weakest - still baffles me they didn't keep the Towering Flume of Doom for one more season, instead opting to replace it with basically a less impressive version of the season 1 entrance. The Snowglobe is the worst of the rotating obstacles, Frozen Fury just isn't that great and the less said about Iced Over the better.
Episode 4 (the Family edition) an odd one though with a wrinkle I don't remember - a family edition where one of the three teams quit in Round 3, so as only one team had completed it at the point they were awarded half of the $50k jackpot, with the other team (one who qualified, one who then quit) competing in the zone for the remaining $25k of the prize.
Vanessa Lachey is great though and I think a much needed injection of new blood at the time, and it's a shame she didn't stay with the show longer than one season. You could tell Jill was getting slightly less enthusiastic throughout season 4, though filming 31 episodes compared to 16/18 probably would do that to you. The season 4 course on the whole though is one of my favourites but the smackwalls had well and truly crept in and the episodes without them were so much better.

Re: Rewatching Wipeout
I wasn't much for most of the season 5 openers. There were several decent ones in the Winter and a few still in the Summer, but in the end a ton were blatant Smackwalls. I liked the Snowfall but it did get repetitive. Preferred Spring Kitchen over the Winter one TBH.
Rounds 2 and 3 are good but both have stupid controlled parts that cause the round to bottleneck so that everyone finishes at the same time. Also, they both feel so similar.
It's a shame the ski slope in the Zone didn't work out because I agree Killer Luge seemed really lame. I was okay with the Psychedelic Snowglobe and liked the button idea (even if it was just to force people to climb through it). I liked Frozen Fury, but think Iced Over was pretty lame. The Zone was too high and filled with non-wintery obstacles.
On its own, the course isn't too bad, but I remember it getting really boring and possibly being the most repetitive course to ever appear on Wipeout - even seasons 6 and 7 had small twists. Okay, most of the twists weren't real twists and just things they changed after the first episode of the block (ropes on Tropic Blunder, spinning platform for Trippity Skippity Flippity Doo), but still. I appreciated the season 6 courses having a bit more variety - Tongue Twister adding the Sweeper, hurdles on the pianos for Greatest Hits in half of the episodes, two third rounds in the second block.

Re:
I'd forgotten how much I hated Barsy. Yes, season 5 summer isn't great obstacle wise - do think the Scareground/Petrified Forest are much better than Hangover/Spin Psycho but I'm certainly finding it more of a chore to watch these episodes, so not sure if I'll get all the way through S5 & S6, which are the last I have. All the sweepers and platforms raising and falling to sometimes help, sometimes hinder, is getting very noticeable too. Just because they could doesn't mean they should.
They also ruined the intro.

Re: Rewatching Wipeout
Yep, the intro was crap. Think it might've improved in season six? Then ruined again (even more) in season 7.
On the subject of seasons, I was thinking of doing a season ranking YouTube video. Do you know whether Wipeout would copyright strike a video if I just talked and played a few clips from the show?

I don't think they will care. There are a lot of things like this on YT. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BZP8EiD84VY

Re:
It's a bit of a lottery. Generally speaking if you use short clips (10-15 seconds I think) and are commenting on them it comes under the fair use policy.

Looking forward to this! You could rank each half/third of each season as well.

Re:
Just on the last episodes of season 5 now. I've struggled with this series more, especially the qualifier which not only had smackwalls, but halfed the length of most opening obstacles too.
As I said earlier I prefer the Scareground/Forest course and on the whole have found those rounds far more entertaining than Hangover/Spin Pyscho, even though they didn't vary anything more than what the Black and Blues wore for the forest round.
Auto-tuned Vanessa was as brilliant as I remembered though and of the three presenters that year she was my favourite. Probably completely wrong but I was getting the impression here that perhaps Anderson and Henson weren't always joking when they did skits about them not being friends.
On to season 6 now, but my enthusiasm for that is fairly low.
