Good News, Bad News... ANW 12 News

Here's our topic for ANW 12. At least for now.

So, some big changes this year. I can't say I'm very pleased with any of it (not least because I don't have a region filming near me!), but here's the fill!:

There are only three taping locations this year emoticon Two of these locations will have two qualifiers/semi-final competitions filmed at them, several days apart, kind of like ANW 4. That does mean only five regions this year! emoticon But four of the five qualifiers will be indoors emoticon emoticon emoticon

Of course, the indoor regions are filming in the daytime, so they've missed the opportunity to film outside in the daytime once again emoticon Maybe it's just me, but I was really not impressed by the Tacoma backdrop last year. If you want to tell me it makes filming easier, then why are you still going and adding stupid ideas like the Power Tower, which only serve to complicate episodes? emoticon

The most annoying thing is: No one seems to mind these changes. It's the inside crap that bothers me most, I think.

Of course, if they don't change obstacles every week, this will become the main issue I have. I honestly wouldn't be surprised emoticon

The regions arrrrre:

-LA (1 qualifying round)

-Washington D.C. (2 rounds)

-St. Louis (2 rounds)

They say they have some big rule changes this year. Yay emoticon When a show can't keep the same rules for two years in a row, you know things are going downhill emoticon

--

Also, USA vs. The World airs this Sunday. Talking about the constant changing of rules reminded me of that emoticon

This year's changes will definitely make things easier for both production and the competitors. Having 4 filming locations rather than 7 will mean less trucking, building and dismantling. I'm hoping we might get more elaborate and better looking courses, and although I don't think they're suddenly going to start repeating whole courses for different regions, I can see them repeating the balance obstacles across two regions - probably Hazard Cones, Spinning Bridge and a new one is all we'll get in the cities.

Tacoma last year was really well-received by the competitors as they could compete in the day and without weather issues, and as that was basically used as a test for this year, more indoor courses seemed inevitable, although repeating two regions twice wasn't something I was expecting and is possibly the best indication yet that the show is on the way down (but compared to NWUK rn it looks very much healthy - and it may receive a slight boost from having a winner).

Great to hear Zuri is back though - she was a great addition to the team last year. Love her energy and enthusiasm - something that seemed to be strictly for the commentary booth during the Christine years.

Hoping to get some great new obstacles this year, especially after last year's Total Victory. There were some pretty big changes to the courses in ANW 8 and expecting even more this time round as the show seems to be changing at an ever-increasing rate.

Excited to see what the new season will bring! But while I'm here, this year looks very quite on the international spin-off front: France, Germany, Australia, Vietnam and that's about it. NWUK 6 doesn't look like it'll be happening until late 2020 or 2021 if at all with the current speed of development. Switzerland, Poland, Russia and Israel are possibilities but apart from that the spin-offs seem to have quietly disappeared. Ninja as a whole looks to be increasingly on the decline, so I wouldn't be surprised if ANW is the only one left in a few years (hope not though).

While I believe they should change the balance every region and start repeating Wingnuts/Barrel Roll/Spring Forward-position obstacles, I can totally see this happening. For some reason, they really stopped caring about balance variety for the last couple of years. Last year was a slight improvement, but still way too repetitive with hanging balance obstacles. And I'll just smile and nod as you praise your Spinning Bridge appearing for the 6,492nd time emoticon

I think my problem with the inside filming is precisely that it makes things so convenient. Call me silly, but I just think Ninja is too big a show (especially these days!) to worry about slight weather inconveniences and such - surely they're raking in enough money to suck it up and deal with it? And if the competitors don't like that, they don't have to compete. It's like the competitors who actually believe they should be PAID for appearing emoticon It is what it is.

I'm glad to see Zuri's back too. She was a great addition.

In hindsight, I think part of my annoyance last year was all of the sudden change. A lot of it was good change (though not all), but it was too much at once. New host, new editing, new massive bonus round, new immunity rules. Of course, I hold that the retries take away the show's value, but I'm a purist with ANW I guess.

I hope the season goes well (and I may have initially been too harsh), but I feel it's on its way out. The fact that I am still trying to force myself to watch the USA vs. The World says a lot about the interest in the show - or mine, anyway.

Well, the bad news I alluded to in the title has arrived:

The taping is cancelled for LA until further notice emoticon

On that note, Ninja Warrior France filming is also cancelled - they are considering filming in September but if not then it'll be shelved until next year due to the hosts' filming commitments

It's really a weird thing to witness all these big events (sports, etc.) grinding to a halt because of this. It's a new thing to see such a global event end everything at one time like this.

I hope things get back to normal soon!! emoticon

And five months later...

 emoticon

Well, I'm glad I wasn't very invested in the original plan, because it's been completely changed now anyway emoticon

Season 12 filmed last month wholly in St. Louis. It was kept pretty low-key considering they obviously don't want an audience, blah, blah, blah.

We don't know much at this point, but it is apparently a team format with 50 teams of three participating. By the sounds of it, the teams are really just in place so that each Ninja has two supporters (their teammates) on the sideline to cheer them on as they go. It'll feel really weird just seeing two people spectating each run though.

There are also hints that there might be something else to the teams than just cheering, but I really don't know.

I feel bad for the two people partnered with Drew. I doubt we'll see their runs.

I remember at the time people saying it was pretty stupid trying to hide this from everyone when most of the top ninjas were all coincidentally in St Louis at the same time but I suppose they didn't want any uninvited guests.

Not sure when this will air coz I assume they'll need to re-edit parts to cut Drew but if he got on the Power Tower then that could be a big problem for them.

I think it's been delayed for a bit.

Didn't save the link, but I saw an article today that said there will a rerun on Monday night for the next two weeks and that the premiere date for 12 will soon be announced. Guessing neither of the reruns will be Drechsel episodes!

Yeah I think they said OKC and Tacoma qualifiers if memory serves me right.
