Episode 5 (23rd October)

Episode 5 of TC Saudi Arabia airs tomorrow - with all new Tug of War and Show of Hands emoticon

Really interested to see those - neither were highly-rated games for me on the original, but both are pretty cool to have.

Curious to see if they edit Roller Derby better this time.

Watch here, after broadcast

I've included the link to the show's catch up page in the original past, as otherwise it's a pain to find for anyone who wants to watch it.

Good idea Dan emoticon I'll go back and do the same for the others, so people who don't read every topic can find it.

Good episode today (not the best...), but YOU GOT MY ORDER WRONG, SIR! The games in this episode were essentially the polar-opposite of what last week's trailer advertised emoticon And now I don't know whether or not the promo for next week is to be trusted - if so, it's very similar to this week's, which seems unlikely for Saudi. But then that'd make three times that they've been wrong in a row! I'm not sure what to expect emoticon

I'll review more in a bit, but curious if we'll get the ep with the three episode 4 games + Show of Hands and Tug of War soon emoticon You don't have to do trailers, but please don't confuse everyone if you do make them!

Re: Episode 5 (23rd October)

Alright, interesting and somewhat jarring episode considering the lineup I was expecting.

Hopefully we see something aside from Slippery Wall soon - I'm sure that The Great Wall is there, too, but when will we get it?! I think the Skittles eps are the more recent ones (with Dominoes and the black man who wears a uniform and helps out with some games), so I am curious when - perhaps I'm overthinking it and this is close to the real filming order. We know they're about to change the Skittles/Blueberry Hill/Wet Paint ramp during an episode, so maybe they switched back and forth all the time...

Speaking of hill games... Blueberry Hill! Especially violent this week. I just don't understand the criteria - it seems the guard only pushes down those who get to the top, and some of them have already crossed the finish line. It's like they did the opposite of the original show and allowed movement anywhere except past the finish line. Bizarre.

Palm Tree Trip is decent in its own right, but it's feeling less and less like Mushroom/Corncob. The main issue now is the shaft always coming back over the platform. EVERY person who makes it gets hit, which makes those moments unfunny, and people hang onto the tree past the platform because it always swings back emoticon

Honeycomb Maze sketch was good. Actually, all sketches this time were pretty good. It was just all the editing crap that was annoying. And speaking of things that lose novelty - two people falling off the finish path. Moments like that are fun to see once or twice, but are supposed to be special and surprising. Hopefully the guards don't go for trying to push people off that way in the future.

Slightly better Roller Derby editing, though I think the second race just went long and there was more to use than usual. There's a giant stretch at the end with nothing - why not add two more hurdles? Even slightly higher ones, at that. And let the first two move on! Then it'd be like the original and take a proper amount of time. Please.. emoticon

Skipping Stones seemed to have a bit much stone-surfing for my liking. It's like in the early days of the original, but even more blatant and lame.

Avalanche!! I couldn't believe they got us this one, but I'm very glad to see it emoticon The two sticking points are the strange rainbow walls near the top, and (more importantly) that contestants are allowed to continue after being hit by boulders. They're only eliminated if they're completely chased-down the chute. So could they potentially just push past all of the boulders? emoticon It does seem they're a bit heavier - possibly too heavy - but it's still silly to let contestants continue after being hit. The game actually works pretty well, but (like Blueberry Hill) the rules interpretation kills things a bit.

The Run Way! Another pretty good game, and I think they got the eliminations at the end pretty good. I just think multiplication is excessive (I blame Indonesia emoticon ), especially when only a few get it.

Slip Way really should take some time off, you know? emoticon It also felt a bit weird to see consecutive "runway" games, but that's fine. I just hope this isn't earning it's place with Home Run as an ender, seeing as it and Dominoes are the only other nighttime games.

Home Run is still good, but I would've liked Dominoes like we expected! Hopefully we see the newer games again soon.

I appreciate TCSA's sticking to the guns of the original show, but it'd be cool if they could make a more TCT-style Final Fall. Have different guards play different tricks on the player. This same one each week makes it a snoozefest. And here is where unique music WOULD be a good thing - play some dramatic song over the background to give the game atmosphere.

The Slippery Wall and Palm Tree Trip especially had some questionable edits. The montage in Slippery Wall was fine, but the "circus afro" song ( emoticon ) gives the show a cheap feel. Feels like we're in Indonesia or something emoticon

All in all, hoping the trailers aren't misleading from here-on-out because having such different games to what we expected leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I know that's dramatic, but there's newer stuff I want to seeeeee! I guess the good news is that we'll certainly see the episode at some point, but it feels like a lost episode for now emoticon

I'm actually not complaining about the somewhat predictable placement of games because the original had the same. I mean, I'd rather have Skipping Stones be earlier and Palm Tree Trip be later, but the show is allowed to develop its own character, of course. The ramp games don't always need to be at the start of the episode though. At least the episode they promoted last week seemed to only have Wet Paint, and not as the first main game emoticon

I too am puzzled at the so called trailers during the credits, but at least we know there are new games along the way...whenever they will come!

And speaking of new games, it was great to see Avalanche in the line up. It looks exactly like the one from the Dutch version...the boulders, the walls, and no padding on the floor!

Their Run Way is probably the best one I've seen outside the original show. We haven't had any mud in this version at all so it was nice to see it in this game.

Another pretty good episode. See ya next week.

This episode was alright but not really amazing. But it was good to see my favourite game the Skipping Stones making a comeback as well as a couple more games that appeared in every ep until this one being absent to allow for different games to be played. Avalanche and The Runway are meh but I would be really glad if Mud Ball ever showed up in Arabia.
