Re: Holey Moley

Oh my gosh something funny happened tonight. I remembered it due to being a holey moley view 5 to 10 months ago. Well anyway i was at the store. I viewed a bottle of wine. It was called dutch courage! The bottle of wine was named after the windmills of holey moley! I found it hysterical to view. I bought several bags of rice. i find it pleasant. Well anyway when i came home i told my husband the huge prank. I said i should buy two of them so it is double dutch courage. I find it hilarious. My husband was confused, He said huh? I told him it was the windmills from holey moley. He said what windmills? I find it lame o.

There's a lot to be excited about here! I'm most excited for Corn Hole and Holey Matrimony. We don't see Big Foot Wedge so I guess that is going to be the big ending hole.

One thing I noticed was that the obstacle part of The Parcade looks fairly similar to the Rumble Bridges from Wipeout. It'll be interesting seeing how that turns out.

This just reminds me of when Wipeout had an ABC budget.

I find the obstacles unique looking. It looks a little to crazyhuh? I find it nervous. I hope someone does not get hurt o. I find it positive. You know the huge graphic looks beautiful however the course looks pretty ugly o. I find it crappy. I like the fire and donuts and dinosaur and crap in the drawing. I find it beautiful to view. Although i may not host the lovely holey miley graphic image as the background to my smartphone I still find it lovely a little. I find the explanation understandable.

One time I had a dream that a woman named dorthy orphan was hosting the show. I find it random and hilarious. The name sounds mystical huh? I find it creative seeming. I hope she comes in the next episode. I find it farcical to say. I do not want her to replace the two hilarious presenters o. I find it nervous. Well it is not real o hardly. I find it relieving to think.

Re: Holey Moley

I intended to post that much earlier!

I was SO excited reading this lineup! It looks really good again. It's definitely my closest fit to Wipeout these days (more than TBS Wipeout itself), although it's obviously a very different type of thing. I'm glad they're showing two episodes tonight for my own sake, but I hope it doesn't burn us out a bit! But it's similar to Wipeout did with the season 3 Blind Date premiere, and that season did just fine! Also, avoid reading the episode descriptions if you don't want (vague) spoilers. One of the descriptions states that someone clears a particular obstacle for the first time...

I love how they rework old holes and still make them look exciting and fresh.

Two great episodes! I really wish Wipeout was still on ABC. I'm excited to see the holes that haven't been shown yet!

Re: Holey Moley

Agreed, overall a very promising start. There are a few points of concern I'll tackle before I revel in the positive.

For the first two episodes (and first time airing two episodes on one day), they did use a lot of the same holes in each. 4/7 were in both episodes. Right now, I'm (optimistically) putting it down to simply a lack of planning or (better yet) an attempt to save a couple of things for later on in the season. However, I'm a bit nervous that we're not getting as many holes this year. They've fiercely advertised the "12 new holes" and little else. Of the 10 holes we saw tonight, nine were included in the list of 12 - the other being the revamped Hole Number Two. That leaves only three more holes on the list plus the final Big Foot thing. Beyond that, there are no more holes I can think of that are confirmed, so I'm a bit nervous we're only having 14 holes this year. While 14 is a lot, it'd be disappointing if it went down and stifled the variety a bit. But I very well could be wrong and forgetting something!*

The twerking lady was annoying.

Well that's the negative points done with emoticon Let's jump in with a review:

Agony of Defeat was the only hole whose name I didn't understand (but my Dad explained the reference), but the hole itself was very good! Nice idea to have a ski jump on this show, and I like the quantifiable metric they went with this time (rather than an arbitrary score). Having to go over two ramps also seems like a fair penalty on this. Poor lady, tall guy gave her no chance!

Corn Hole was also good and well-named. It feels rather similar to Hole Number Two, but it's creative enough to pull it off. The weird thing is that we've still really yet to see a "classic" run at it - where someone gets popped right off the beam by the bag. We had the lady who jumped right in, the guy who got hit but cleared, the lady who lost balance just in time and the guy who got hit at the last possible second but almost cleared. Anyway, I like the hole and the foam cubes were something different. Surprised the bags contained actual popcorn when they exploded emoticon

The Ho Ho Hole is a good evolution of Polcano, and I appreciate how they put it next to the ski slope - also makes me want a full-on mini Winter season! The chimney is a bit more generous than the successful bit last year, but it's not bad. The "nice" slots seem almost as good as the chimney anyway! I could be crazy, but I feel they may have made the pole slicker this year. It may just be because it's red and white, but it looked shinier, like they may have lubed it up or something (I'm now giving Rob joke ideas emoticon ). Anyway, it worked well.

Turfing USA was a bit simpler seeming, but I still enjoyed. I expected it to be another makeover of Water Hazard, but it really is it's own new thing. The spiral wave was a nice setpiece and the surfboard was relatively straightforward for them, but I feel like that almost made it feel cooler. Plus, the water jets gave it a bit of complexity later on. I didn't want the twerkling to win, but she did have a great save on the surfboard.

Dutch Courage En Fuego was good, although clearly not exactly what was described here. Did anyone else notice for most of the hits that the ball seemed to speed up after it cut away from the contestant hitting it? Is that just me? emoticon The fire didn't contribute very much to the stunt and it feels pretty similar to last year, so I am hoping they don't rely on it so much this year again.

Hole Number Two was one I definitely expected to return, so no issue with that! I like how they redid it to still feel original, although of course it's very much the same. Is it in a different pool this year? I thought last year it was connected to that main big one, but maybe I'm wrong on that?

The Pecker was used as the finale to both episodes, which was strange. I don't think it's going to be the final every week as they didn't say much about that and I would expect them to choose a more substantial hole for that role. It's probably like last year and they mainly relied on a few different holes as final courses and these two episodes just happened to have the same ending, but it is odd. Anyway, the hole itself was great! I love the challenge as it's possible, but clearly very tricky. Plus, the jokes they can make with it are amazing - better than Uranus IMO. Very well done overall!!

Holey Matrimony was a smart name and a unique idea. The course actually makes a lot of sense now that I see it all - in the trailer I was a bit confused. The one thing I fear is that no one will make it onto the ring, but I do think someone will. The aisle is a bit of a bland place to hit the ball in terms of an obstacle, but it's still a smart idea for the theme. That long hit by the woman was really good!

Fishing Hole is good too! As I said earlier, they do a great job of revamping old holes to look original. The Take Me Fishing sponsor was a surprise, but they still did a good job of integrating it into their usual jokes. Seems like an obscure thing to get an ad on the show, but more power to them! I think the water actually contributes a lot to the difficulty here as it makes it harder to see and move cleanly across that beam. Of course the fish are what get the job done, but the water had a great supporting role!

King Parthur's Court was a stretch as a name, but I still like it emoticon I like having the ball jump the gap and the joust was a cool idea, though a bit boring to me. I feel like the contestant will never win as their sword seems to be a lot limper (like a Funoodle?). It's definitely not bad, it just felt a tiny bit empty to me. Glad they used the animal costumes as the backdrop and not the depressing, creepy cardboard cutouts at sports games!

Overall, it was a ton of fun. I'm glad that both of our winners so far seem pretty lowkey and polite and that justice was eventually served to the twerking lady (despite her attempts to overshadow the winner's moment!).

The virtual Stephen Curry screen felt a bit too COVID-y to me, but I think it may have just been done to save time anyway. I was VERY happy to see they had an (unmasked) audience - especially as this was filmed three months ago in California!! I was equally downtrodden to see the lifeguard wearing a mask in the water - I know they probably require it, but how stupid can you be??

The new plot of making minigolf go global was an interesting one and I'm curious what they'll do in the future eps. His joke about keeping children from all over the world in zoos got me in the way it was revealed. The "History of Holey Moley" (or whatever) segment near the end of the second episode was kind of interesting, though I was busy and not really following it well. Is Behind the Hole gone then? emoticon

I admit I had trouble seeing the ball a couple of times in this episode. It seems like they don't always shoot the actual hits that well? Maybe I just need to finally give-in and wear the reading glasses I got all the time emoticon

*There's also a small chance the Distractor is back this year as it was mentioned in episode 1, but not sure.

Very interested in seeing what Holeywood is. I don't know how they'd turn that theme into an obstacle so I'm sure it'll be interesting.

Wow! Could that mean it's becoming in-season then? It's so early to be filming, unless they're working around Wipeout. Holeywood does most certainly sound interesting. It's impressive how many pun names they've been able to make (and season one they didn't try as hard with them, so I don't think they were all planned from the start).

Still hope we have several unseen holes for this season though.

Re: Holey Moley

Reading through these posts, it seems that they may deceivingly be season 3 posts.

The one with the woman in front of Holeywood has a comment that says something like "Make sure to watch tonight so they invite me back next season.". That implies to me that "next season" would be season 4, which hasn't been taped yet. It would seem a bit like getting ahead of yourself to take a picture of yourself at season 4 taping, asking people to watch season 3 so they invite you back for season 5. Also, the lady is wearing a mask outside by herself in the first picture, so I would like to think this picture is older, before it became widely known that you don't need a mask on your own outside. So I think Holeywood is from this season and may be revealed later. I could be totally wrong, but there's my interpretation upon further reading.

I saw another comment from a similar post when I was investigating earlier (that I can't find now, not remember) that swayed me to think these are just old pics from the season 3 taping.

I'm not for sure though, after all I remember they did renew it for two more seasons after season 2, so it wouldn't be too weird if they filmed these two closer together since ABC had already ordered them both anyway. Also, it would seem weird that we've seen all 14 holes so far advertised so heavily, and Holeywood and the pink Trap-Tee-Ze (don't get the name emoticon ) have not been advertised at all. Of course neither has the Big Foot hole that we saw a pic of in March, so maybe they're holding all three of these courses back for the finale.

At the same time, the pink loop that resembles the wave from Surf and Turf could be evidence that this is from season 3. It seems more likely that they rebranded the wave to this pink half-pipe, rather than not using this style of structure at all in season 3 and then bringing it back in season 4. Holey Moley likes to repurpose courses immediately and efficiently; they don't tend to rehash ideas once they're gone.

I kind of hope these pics are from season 3 anyway as, while it would be nice to think season 4 may be coming sooner than later, I think it's better they keep it annual and this season could do with a few more holes anyway.

There's my Holey Moley argumentative essay for you! I could be completely wrong.

Looking forward to tomorrow's episode emoticon
