I was coming here to say just that! I'm sure I read somewhere that the exact date was January 24th.

Ooh cool! I've actually always believed the game designers have one of the hardest jobs in the world (especially on the original, as I feel they had more complex puzzle-type games), but still great fun of course!

I will definitely have to try, but I feel like anything I submit will already have been used at some point emoticon

Nickelodeon have uploaded the season premiere of the US version on YouTube a week before the TV broadcast. Sadly it's not available to watch outside the US.

All the early YouTube release stuff is weird to me. Nice, I guess, but weird emoticon

I still have to watch it!

Re: The Crystal Maze

SPOILERS!!

I managed to watch the premiere of Crystal Maze US

Overall I was pleased with what I saw. There are a few things I wasn't keen on: 5 lives in an ALIS game instead of 3, 2 games per zone, and ad breaks in games.

However one thing the US definitely do better than the UK (original and revival) is the maze map, the graphics are gorgeous emoticon

Adam is a good maze master. The exercise bike bit in the Eastern Zone in particular reminded me of Richard O'Brien's days on the show when he would be doing something on his own while the game was going on (playing an instrument, chatting about Mumsie, etc)

Also nice to see the crushing wall game in Eastern that's yet to be played in the UK

Re: The Crystal Maze

I watched it (and tweeted about it)! I'm honestly mixed on my opinion, though it's nice to see around in any form.

It certainly feels more dramatized, while having unnecessarily silly bits. I'd say this could be cured (respectively) by removing the mid-game ad-breaks (just do them between zones instead) and stupid behavior like the dabbing and all (sue me emoticon ). I think having random people work together actually works better - knowing each other too well often results in almost too much banter. Also, don't cast people who seem like "reality TV" hopefuls emoticon

I did like the team and support them as they explored the maze, but the show just didn't feel as natural (neither does the recent UK remake though). I think all of the TV references kind of hurt it. It's funny on other shows, but with Crystal Maze you want your audience to really feel like they're in a magical world while they're watching! Just take out the "With the magic of editing, you'll be wearing a helmet"-type jokes (which I don't know why they say EVERY time anyway...) and it'll be fine there.

Speaking of unnatural, did it feel to you like some of the guide's lines were dubbed-in later? Not all of them, but when he said something to the point of "I bet that'll leave a mark!" during the Aztec water crossing game, it sounded like it was recorded in-studio? emoticon

But the biggest and easiest problem to fix is having the clock completely obstructed by the huge Nickelodeon graphic on the top-right of the screen! Unles that's just because I watched it on On Demand? Jonnie, was it there when you were watching? emoticon

Overall though, I liked everyone there, and our Maze Master is really fun! There were a few minutes he spoke in a way similar to Richard and he was able to create those silly moments (especially as the episode went on). Hopefully he has a foil character at some point in Medieval!

I REALLY like the Asian world! I think there's a lot of directions that can be taken in, so I hope there are a lot of games there yet to be seen. Has that been used in other versions?!

I don't get the 10-second crystal though? emoticon

Re: The Crystal Maze

The 10 second crystal is there just to keep the format fresh, not that it needs any changes.

It's stupid where they had the clock, surely they must know where the Nick logo is!! There was no channel logo when I watched it.

I can remember at least 7 other games in the Eastern Zone. You got the wall crusher game before us. I spotted the Medieval plank game from the first revival series in a promo that's being used for Eastern. It will be interesting to see if they use any other Medieval games there.
