It's interesting how they added a variation to the Parallel Pipes.

We've never had that in ANW - where a reoccurring obstacle begins to be modified midway through a season.

Makes me think of Summer Wipeout season 4 where they started adding variations to the Jiggleators and Double Barrel after they realized both were getting old fast.

It's like a NWUK tradition - they did it with the jump hang/ cargo net of previous seasons and now they're doing it with its successor.

Results and my thoughts
10 clears tonight - that's 30 semi-finalists total with one heat to go.

Liked the course - it's weird to think that two lache bars were more entertaining than 'silk slider'. Escalator was far too easy as they had 7 planks but preferred it to coin flip which has definitely been over-used on NWUK. Parallel pipes this weak was better than last week's version, still completely stale though. Sky hooks were a welcome addition though - if they had to repeat an upper-body obstacle twice it should have been this, not ring jump.

Liked what they did by putting 4 returning competitors back to back at the end - sadly no Teige this week but that means we'll get to see him in next week's heat (hopefully!), alongside Toby Segar, Henry Cookey and Dean Cheetham.

Overall, I'm liking this series, it's currently edging out series 4 due to the magnitude of returning competitors and editing's probably the best it's been. Sorry for the ridiculously overlong post. I find it to be Miamigirl-size o.

My mistake on the Parallel Pipes - I thought the first two heats just had the pipes themselves and the swing was added to extend the obstacle. But I see from Sasukepedia that each week is a different thing, like the Jump Hang, as you said!

LOL @ the reference AND the fact that you think that posts compares to miamigirl's megaposts emoticon

Glad they changed the rules this year and scrapped the "furthest fastest" in favour of only those who complete the course moving on, though a time limit, even if generous, would be appreciated - though it is something they introduce at the next stage.

Just wondering too if they've shaved a couple of episodes off this series - usually it's 8 eps with 5 heats, two semis and the final but get the impression after four heats there is just one semi final, so may have been cut to six episodes. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Also really frustrating me this year how Ben keeps referring to the course as "the beast". I've not noticed that in previous years and it just comes across as him picking that up from Beastmaster.

As I've mentioned on the NWUK discord if you're on there, the heats weren't intended to be only wall climbers move on - it was going to be all wall climbers progress - remaining spaces in top 40 would go to furthest fastest from all 4 heats combined which is a bit wierd. Luckily they had enough clears not to do that.

They changed the format last year to 4 heats, 2 part semi, 2 part final. It will be the same this year.

They've called it that throughout the show's history, guess you've only noticed it now due to UBM.

Heat 4 course:
Floating Steps
Giant Wheel to Bag Grab
Escalator
Parallel Pipes with Rings
Flying Shelf Grab
Warped Wall

Thoughts:
Another good heat from NWUK, liked obstacle choices - seemed nice and balanced and also loved seeing the return of Toby Segar and especially Teige MP.

Overall, the heats this year have been well done, best so far in my opinion. Good editing - ANW could really learn a thing or two here, decent obstacle choices (apart from ring jump and 'silk slider'), and an abundance of returning competitors which is always going to make me happy.

Looking forward, the semis course is... well... interesting. Some good obstacle choices but also one in particular that has no place on that course and another that is about 5 positions later than it should be. Looking forward to it though, especially with this strong competitor field. Hoping this series can keep up the good work, despite the fact that the show itself has leaked the final result. Typical NWUK. I'm still waiting for the year with no glaring flaw which leaves a bitter aftertaste.

I didn't watch it, but that obstacle lineup seems a bit weak. I'm not necessarily complaining, but from that list I expect I would be able to clear the course!

Grab Bag and Escalator were both quite easy on ANW, Parallel Pipes are easy enough if you pace yourself, Flying Shelf Grab fits the 3rd spot better than the 5th. It'd have been better if they didn't introduce the stupid "Clear and automatically advance" rule. Then you'd have more drama on easy courses as it's a race for time. Plus (even though I'm the biggest advocate for "different courses can have different obstacles since the competitor fields are also different"), with an unlimited number of people being able to move on, really easy courses give the advantage to their competitors over the competitors from slightly more difficult courses (at least until Midoriyama).

I like that course!

It's funny how they seem to overuse the UFO in the UK, while the US has never had a tilting UFO at all!

Spinning Log seems a bit of a simple obstacle for the penultimate one on the semi finals.

I assume this course is packed up and used on other versions around Europe (assuming they're still going).
