Ninja Warrior UK
So there's going to be a UK version of Ninja Warrior next year. On ITV!
Hope it's better than the American one.

Re: Ninja Warrior UK
Bet it involves Vernon Kay.
Always thought Wipeout would have been done better by ITV (with Ant and Dec of course!) but not really sure how Ninja Warrior will go down with a UK audience. Actually as it takes itself a bit too seriously it probably would be a better fit at the BBC.

Re: Ninja Warrior UK
Thats great news! Sweden's Kanal 5 are also planning their own version too (starts 29 January) but why not FB? Surely that would be cheaper to produce? Sasuke is too simlar to Wipeout and Prize Island was a big flop on ITV!

Re: Ninja Warrior UK
Well hey, if Challenge are going to come up with bull non-reasons to make a UK show, it might as well go to one of the terrestrial broadcasters. Sasuke's not left-field enough for Channel 4; the BBC will probably have said no because of viewers who never watch much beyond what's already on BBC potentially not realizing it's a different show and then moaning that it's a rehash of Wipeout, 'so why don't the just do more of it instead of wasting money on a new show?' or something like that; Channel 5 previously bombed with a UK version of Banzuke back in 2000-1. So that leaves just ITV. They'll probably try to prop up a Saturday night heavyweight with it. Probably too late in time to prepare a show of this scale to air alongside Saturday Night Takeaway, so I expect it might be produced around end of spring-early summer period where it can air next to Britain's Got Talent. I can see someone like Matt Edmondson hosting, purely because he in particular seems to be bloody everywhere at the moment.

Re: Ninja Warrior UK
The thing is, you know it'll end up being based on the American version rather than the original show. So it'll be packed full of contestant "stories" and how much winning an obstacle course show would mean to them and CHANGE THEIR WHOLE LIFE.
If it was going to be based on the original Sasuke - starting off fun but gradually being up to something slightly less light-hearted - then great. But I bet it won't. I do hope to be proved wrong though.

Re: Ninja Warrior UK
Yes it feels like watching the bit before the Wipeout Zone in Washout even if there were slightly less stories this season. I think I now prefer the Japanese version, because it is closer to being fun like 'keshi and the obstacles seem more like 'keshi

It's surprising actually Germany has never done it as they have quite a few shows which air about half a dozen times a year over a few hours on a Saturday night - the original Ninja Warrior concept would fit into that ideally.

Re: Ninja Warrior UK
I suspect it could be to do with the fact that they're selling the American format rather than the original X-hours-long over-in-one-night format. Shame really, but I suppose they were always going to get more sales from a series than something offering sporadic episodes of epic lengths.
Look's like it's just going to be called "Warrior UK". Which is naff.

Have we gone back to the days when "ninja" wasn't allowed on TV!? Surprised they didn't rename it "Hero Warrior"... Turtle power!
