Challenge's TC Trailers List (I remember there was an old topic for this somewhere on this forum but couldn't find it, so made a fresh one. If anyone can find the old one and this topic has to be removed, then that's fine)
After seeing the Head To Head trailer in the Mini Easter Eggs topic, I thought we could create a list of Challenge's Takeshi's Castle trailers over the years here-if anyone remembers any that is!
Ok, so here's the ones I remember:
Original Trailer(2002): When Takeshi's Castle was first coming to the UK, the first trailer contained clips from Series 1's first episode. Clips included High Rollers, contestants going through a netted off door in Knock Knock, Poles Apart, and a contestant dressed as Strong Kongo at the beginning of Grid Iron.
Happy Clappy Craig(2003(??): Never saw it in it's original broadcast, but has seen it on KH's media page: Craig Charles sitting in a small Japanese house getting the Takeshi's Castle contestants' punishments such as a swinging wrecking ball, boxing glove on a spring coming out of a box, getting shot with balls, etc.
Charity Appeal(2002 or 2003(??): Never saw it in it's original broadcast, but found it on a YouTube clip, sadly removed. Spoofing a charity appeal, a close up of injured Japanese contestants wearing big braces on their necks and mouths...accompanied with a voice over and piano music.
Specials Trailer(2003): When the one hour specials were yet to be aired, the trailer contained clips of the General going on a road trip to find contestants in different parts of Japan. Clips contained Dragon Lake at sea, Deep Float, Prod, Tobogoff, Tani getting hit on the head by 'Mother Lee', and getting a slap on the face by his wife.
Head To Head(2004): see Mini Easter Eggs topic.
Takeshi's MXC(2005): A trailer for America's MXC(titled as Takeshi's MXC in the listings). It featured clips from the 'Inventors vs. Ex-child Actors' episode.
Japanese Invasion(2007): Based on the world wars, black and white footage of contestants and the General. The only colour used in the trailer was red(for the helmets, Knock Knock doors, etc.)-representing the Japanese flag.
Heroes(2012): Clips of eliminated contestants accompanied by by 'My Hero' by Foo Fighters.
Rebooted(2013): The original General Tani introduces the 'rebooted' series in Japanese(with English subtitles).
Re: Challenge's TC Trailers List The other topic is really old, so a new one's fine!
I've never seen the original advert, but I hope it pops up somewhere, sometime. I've always wanted to see how they first promoted it.
A few more:
2003 - Series 2: I remember people mentioning in the past that there was one promo (for series 2?) that was a parody of the Creme Egg "How do you eat yours?" ad.
2003 - Series 4: This had various clips in slow motion and a Japanese woman saying stuff like "Can you ride tank like silver gorilla?"... That's not the exact words but that was the gist of it it. A load of really stupid made up proverb-like questions.
So that's at least 12 different promos, just on Challenge! There was also one for Ftn that was themed like Formula 1 (bizarrely).
It's amazing that one show could have had so many different adverts created for it. And how and why do they decide every few years that they should come up with a new one to promote a show that has been running for so long?!
Re: Challenge's TC Trailers List I wonder if there are any more hiding in videos uploaded to YouTube? I've just searched through a bunch of Fort Boyard ones, but no Takeshi ads I did find one for Craig's Sushi TV though It's at 20:33:
Re: Challenge's TC Trailers List Not an advert as such, but was continuity: for 6 weeks during 2004, Takeshi's Castle was sponsored by Donkey Konga!!
The sponsorship had a Takeshi's Castle contestant playing Donkey Konga, while Konga himself is hitting the contestant on the head with objects like a big banana, and a washing machine if my memory serves me correctly!
Re: Challenge's TC Trailers List Yeah, the Donkey Konga add were something like that. They were done in a weird animation style using half cartoon, half real photos I think? Like the man's face was a real person, stuck on a weird cartoon body?
