Exciting times as a new season has abruptly started after 2.5 years of nothing. We know we have several new games to look forward to as well emoticon

Let’s just hope we see it soon…

As well as Mudskippers and End Bell joining the class, Skittles and Wipeout were in tonight’s episode too.

Hopefully more clips will appear

Re: Season 2 Premiere (May 10th)

It's totally been worth the wait for the new Series 2 episodes to arrive and I hope there'll be at least seven maximum in total as I know that this was filmed before the pandemic. I also like how they refurbished the castle with fancy patterns on the outside and everything to make this new season seem fresh. emoticon So let's see how it goes:

Mudskippers: I had fears when watching the opening of this game on Instagram about two years ago that my least favourite starting challenge (Muddy Waters) would return but once I spotted the banners, I was relieved since the aforementioned game above was nothing special or exciting with just random people crawling across a dirty stretch of water. emoticon With this game, it's more extraordinary since the players have to grab something on the way and I love how the banners were decorated in so many colours and patterns.

End Bell: I liked how the ramp was much taller compared to the original show and I can't complain with there being only green rafts since that's my favourite colour. I didn't like how there was a rope connected from the top of the uphill slope though, as it makes the game easier than usual because once a hand is grasped onto the rope, you know they are going to win. emoticon

Wipe Out: There are finally guards standing on the centre platform! emoticon But like in the Indonesian version, they didn't push off a contestant in the water when he missed the surfboard, which is what's supposed to happen and I'm still getting used to there being alligators instead of fish. Also, the board still doesn't move fast enough. emoticon

Skittles: I liked how the giant ball was repainted to blue and that hilarious monkey outfit that the new bowler was wearing. But it seemed to me like the contestants needed to face THREE bowls this time which I felt like was a bit too much. emoticon And for the winners, they still get knocked over but I guess that it's an easier way for them to get out of their costume, even though they were still lying down when the reporter came over. emoticon

Sumo Rings: On water! This variation only ever happened in beach specials of Japan and I never expected to see it here but of course it was a funnier way to watch people failing and I correctly predicted that the guy in a dolphin costume and a snorkeller would be the losing opponents since they already looked ready to get wet before the match even began. emoticon Also, they switched the method of choosing your opponent, Thai style by picking out a coloured sword instead of a ball. emoticon Still strange how Sumo was one of the only two games in the first series to be played the least amount of times along with Tug of War and I hope this won't be the only time we see it this year.

Bridge Ball: I'm glad to see this challenge finally being played at night with the Commander throwing the ball to contestants instead of a guard. emoticon Despite the bridge positioned much lower towards the net, I appreciate the fact that there were large rocks being attached throughout the structure, which allowed contestants to receive more footage in this game. The General also had the biggest smile on his face when people won.

Home Run: Nothing has changed much in this game but nice to see about three wins whatsoever.

Final Fall: Although just six contestants were shown this time, I was glad to see more wins than losses especially without that lose-lose-win sequence that began in many Series 1 episodes.

Show Down: WITH LASERS! This is something I had hoped for in Series 2 and I'm pleased it did. emoticon Now it seems like there is a more genuine chance of having a winner in Saudi Arabia, as shooting water on the paper rings was already difficult enough with only two wins out of 87 episodes happening in the original show.

Can't wait for the next episode and hoping that Skipping Stones will return eventually, also I'm looking forward to seeing how the contestants pull off Mud Ball and especially the Single Roller as I consider that to be one of the hardest games on this show. I also realised how there are only nine games instead of twelve per episode now. emoticon

It's only £5.59 for a monthly subscription, you don't even need a VPN to access this show.

Re: Season 2 Premiere (May 10th)

Thanks for posting the review. I just read that for now, still hoping something changes with their upload system.. emoticon

Nine games per episode is a bit of a shame. Twelve before was a lot and at times forced them to rush through it, but if I were to cut it I probably would’ve cut it back to 10. Though I guess 9 isn’t any different than a lot of the original show episodes, so it’s fine!

Lots of changes! It seems like the majority of stuff we see will be either all new or significantly modified this season. Not sure they had to make all these changes at once, but I guess that’s because I’m thinking of the original where we didn’t have seasons - so stuff just happened overtime. It’s not a big issue and most of the changes are fine ( Wipe Out guards were wanted, Bridge Ball with catching the ball). I feel like we could’ve seen some more water gun Show Downs & regular Sumo games though, and three bowls in Skittles has always felt weird and like overkill.

With all due respect though, isn’t Mudskippers basically the same as Muddy Waters just with grabbing a banner in the middle, F2 Kubik? emoticon I’m still glad it’s there for something different and variety - I just really hope they’ve left the wall up as an alternate starting game to mix between. These remakes always fail to see the need for variety in starting games. Just having this and the two Wall games ti switch between would suffice for this season. I just wish we had something a bit more unique like Bite the Bun, Foot Loose, etc.

End Bell is a nice surprise, and it’s good they’ve gone for some of the unique stuff. The raft portion was recreated very well. I’m impressed by that! But the slope doesn’t work so well and I hate how they always use that top camera angle and then cut to the side mid-fall. Just like we said last time, their camera director needs to be fired. It’s also less fun than the original in that it’s basically just trying to reach the rope, rather than running up the slope. The slope doesn’t seem very slippery either, just a bit too steep for the game to work properly maybe.

Wipe Out is another game they’re horrible at showing. It’s the above shot at the beginning of each run that really does it emoticon. I was glad they added guards to the platform (though not all are needed), but they felt pointless and it seemed like they just read somewhere that they should put guards there and had no idea what the function of them was for. Basically, they ticked the box for having guards there, but it was pointless!

From the brief YouTube clip I could see, they still pushed people down even with three bowls and few pins surviving. Why? emoticon

Very weird changing Sumo after two appearances. So are they just done with land sumo? I would guess so since they’ve changed it at the start of the season, but it’d be interesting if they have both set up (I guess depends whether they left everything up between seasons or not and whether they used the same rings for this game as season 1, which I don’t know cos I don’t have the episode emoticon ). We’re the guards the same?

Wasn’t the bridge already low last season emoticon Glad they got the ball part right, though it’s kind of weird because the introduction of the rocks in Japan was exactly when they (temporarily) stopped shooting the golden ball.

So they haven’t stopped randomly favoring Home Run this emoticon season.

I always prefer Show Down with water pistols, and I feel like we should’ve at least got a winner before switching. At LEAST! But I guess I can’t complain if they’re trying to update stuff, though I do agree they are probably pulling for a winner.

I just adjusted the games page to add the two new games - I probably should’ve made preemptive posts for the other upcoming new games since it took me about half an hour just to move all of the games back to make space for the new ones emoticon Maybe I should’ve ordered them in the “first appearance” way rather than alphabetically and I wouldn’t have to be constantly updating it. This is a very small downside of getting new games, but let’s just saying I won’t be complaining if the next game they add is Yelliw Brick Road emoticon
