Re: Season 9

Yup. I wonder when they're going to start airing episodes with the new course seeing as this run is going to air sometime in March. Maybe Wipeout will return to airing in the summer?

That's be nice, I think. We need those small but steady improvements this season to get it where we want and reestablish that Wipeout feel.

We have some new leaks of the course!

The first picture shows what looks like two new starters! In the second, we can barely get a glimpse of what looks like might be the original Jiggleators with new stuff on top. The final picture shows that Overdrive has replaced the Pummel Pool!

This looks miles better than season 8 and I'm genuinely excited to see how this turns out. It's great to finally be seeing more new obstacles!

Re: Season 9

Don't get me wrong, I got excited when I saw a new post in here and even more excited to see that there are new pics.

BUT. I wouldn't say these pictures alone are enough to make me feel anymore hopeful. I don't necessarily feel less hopeful, but everything we've seen so far suggests a relatively similar structure to season 8. Which also means the repetition will also likely remain in the new season. I think we were all pretty excited the first time we saw the Body Blender, Jiggleator and Gauntlet too. Anything being used endlessly becomes bored.

I am intrigued to see what these are though. I'm not too sure about the Jiggleators or Overdrive being back as it could be something similar but different, but both all possible.

The starting obstacle in the pool is hard to makeout. It looks like it has a Rumble Bridge at the end, but it doesn't seem to be the main point of the obstacle.

So the Big Balls permanently have yellow on the bottom? I don't think we're seeing enough of the third obstacle to know what it is. To me, the rightmost half of that platform (well the part that we can see in the picture) jut-outs a bit. I'm guessing the yellow cylinder behind it is some kind of Sweeper/hurdle to jump over as it doesn't seem like it'd have much of a function attached to the platofrm.

The new Pummel Pool thing sure looks inspired by Overdrive, though possibly a bit simplified. We see the main Sweepers attached to the structure and two additional Sweepers placed where the windshield-wipers were. Looks like they've kept the Lollipop platform as a way to get back on the obstacle after falling (maybe to make it slightly more doable). None of the three ending obstacles, though it seems to end in a slide. Curious if that slide is an obstacle itself or just a mode to get down to the sideline after clearing the round.

So we think this Overdrive thing is attached to The Gauntlet? And it'd connect to the Carous-hell pool and the new one they've dug? I would be so happy if this thing is a new second round and then The Gauntlet becomes a more traditional third round, then the Zone. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up.

Thanks for sharing!

I think the yellow is just a cover they use before filming actually begins.

Upon closer inspection, it looks like the the starter in the water pool might be something like the Pork Chopper from season 6. Those blue things might spray water. Looking at the base, I think that it'll tilt back and forth like the Yule Log Jam.

While we are probably going to see a lack of variation again, it does look like the obstacles are getting a bit crazier and more interesting. At least now when we see something that looks like an obstacle from the original run it's been expanded on and changed. I'd also keep in mind that there's a whole Gauntlet before the Overdrive section so it being simplified isn't that big of a deal. emoticon Still better than the Pummel Pool.

Even though the lack of variation sucks, it'll be easier to get through 20 episodes of this.

Re: Season 9

I do agree it looks better to me than the last ones. Although that may wane as time goes on like it did with the first set (and always tends to).

You're right that it looks kind of like the Pork Chopper shape of platform and those things might squirt water. But where's the corn? emoticon That's as good a bet as anything though.

I have no issue with the Overdrive being simplified, but I do have an issue with it being part of a Gauntlet! Well, the issue lies more in the fact of having any Gauntlet. It just wasn't that interesting to watch and I think that came down to more than just the obstacles sucking. Marathon rounds = unexciting races. Still, the Overdrive could have more back-and-forth action than the Pummel Pool. Well, if two teams ever actually get to it at the same time, that is emoticon

New survey!

https://twitter.com/Wipeout/status/1485667870969417728

The accidentally described season 9 obstacles that we haven't seen instead of season 8 obstacles. I don't know how that happens but now we've got some more stuff to speculate about as some of the descriptions aren't great.

The Dizzy Dummy starts off the Gauntlet which is very interesting. Looks like we're also getting the Space Race Slides. I'm excited to see this stuff in action!

Re: Season 9

Huh this is weird. The fact that they’ve released this makes me think that maybe we will get the new obstacles soon.. but maybe it’s just them being idiots because why release it a week before anyway?

Some of the obstacles sound okay, I’m glad the Dizzy Dummy is back (though I fear it’ll move at 1 MPH), but then there’s “A giant sledgehammer with Nicole’s face on it” emoticon That sounds like a case of coming up with the name (FaceTime with Nicole) and then deciding you need to make an obstacle to use the joke emoticon

Some of the Gahntlet stuff seems a bit random and mix-matched which is alright for a Gauntlet, but the Qualifier obstacles they mention don’t sound amazing to me. Although, they’re poorly-written descriptions (probably because this was only supposed to air when, you know, we’d seen the new course!) and I hope I’m wrong.

The “two ladders to cross with a gap” or whatever it was may be the horizontal thing directly after the Big Balls.

The rocking bubble bath tub sounds like a combo of both parts of Ballsy’a Playground (and the image of the pool starter ending with a Rumble Bridge did make me think of that obstacle). I only hope that this and the sledgehammer are starters - preferably not for five episodes a piece!

Sounds like the Slapshot from the City Challenge is the landing platform for the slides.

The rocking bubble bath sounds like the end of Petrified Forest.

I'm hoping the Dizzy Dummy is in the circle pool and the reason it's empty in every pictures is because the season 1 and 2 simple obstacles are going to be used for it. I'd love if those switched out.
