Looking back on Season 6

For some reason, people regard this as one of Wipeout's worst seasons, and that I really don't understand. So I'll be listing my pros and cons for Wipeout Season 6

Pros :
Starters - S6 in my opinion has the best starter in the series. Barsy Bot, Squashbuckler, Teather Beater, all were great and never failed to put a smile on my face.

Visuals - Visually the entire season look awesome. Each obstacle had it's own color schemes and that really helped it stand out design wise.

Round 3s - While the Round 2s were basically just the same round with a different design, the Round 3s were creative in theming, and execution. While Sugar Smacks did reuse a lot of the same elements, it wasn't outright terrible.

Zones - The 2 zones in this season were the best in the series. I prefer the Blockbuster Zone, but all of them were great. Watching the contestants helplessly flop around barely knowing what to do while throwing themselves on an obstacle they just failed 2 minutes ago made me die of laughter. They all had amazing lighting and the obstacles were intimidating and flawless in design.

Cons :
Failboxes and Tropic Blunder - Both looked great visually, but were flat in execution.

Contestants - For this season, they weren't really that interesting. We had some nice ones like the Surf Photographer and the Pinkinstador, most of them weren't actually interesting, and more "I want screen time" type of contestants.

Post-ball - They looked good. But were not really that good obstacle-wise. Tongue Twister was a cool concept, until they just plopped a lazy smack. Trippity Skippity was mediocre, it looked better visually, and had way better fails that while did deliver and have some variety, it just felt like they ran out of ideas and just messed around with random elements and just said "Hope this works".

Enders - Kitchen and 3D Maze had some creativity, and had fun wipeouts, but fell flat with the smack overuse. While 3D Maze was a lot better, it got repetitive after seeing the same thing for 17 episodes.

Round 2s - Miami Pound Machine and Octopushy looked great, had great wipeouts, but were basically the same exact round. An enter/exit type round with a rumble at the end. It looked good visually, but wasn't that creative.

Overall, when Season 6 does things wrong, they do them wrong, but when they do something good, It somehow knocks it way out of the park. I give S6 personally an 8.5/10. It was the best visually, but the repetition of smacks are probably the biggest issue. What do you think?

Hello there and emoticon to Keshi Heads! Very sorry for the delayed response, but it's been busy over here.

I agree that season 6 was always treated pretty unfairly as it was a pretty good season for what was expected of it. It definitely improved upon the starting obstacles of season five overall, had some great Round Threes (as well as actually having an alternate round on the second course), and I feel like the energy was just there that season.

Despite the hate it gets, I know there are some others on here who agree with us - where you at, LS6? emoticon

I'll just go through everything and give my opinions on it. emoticon

The starts this season were second to none. They were fun, interesting, and while they did have smackwalls, it never felt like they relied too much on them.

The two mud obstacles were both fine. I don't mind obstacles like Tropic Blunder and the Failboxes having similar falls because of how little space they have to work with.

The motivators this season were probably the worst in the show. However, it was fun seeing variants like the clown and John Henson motivator.

Quick side note, I love how they used a clip of the John Henson motivator in the video revealing the hosts of the reboot.

Both of the post-ball obstacles were entertaining. While the TSFD did get old fairly quickly, it was still fun. The Tongue Twister was such a weird obstacle that's smackwall didn't really get old.

The final obstacles were both good. However, the Kitchen could have worked better as a start and I wish the Maze had something on the second floor.

The second rounds were both fine but nothing outstanding. I'm gonna go against what most people say and say that the Miami Pound Machine was the better round. Neither of these rounds were bad but it just feels like they could have done more.

Now onto where season 6 really shines.

Wipeout's Greatest Hits was a great round that surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. The first part took the sweeper grab, an element that was done to death in season 5, and made it interesting again. The second part was a basic Yule Log section that brought some variation. Lastly, the dive through the guitar is one of the most creative finishes in the show's history. However, it was spoiled a bit by the rumble bridge.

Wipeout City is my second favorite round 3 of all time. The first section always felt like a chaotic start to the round, the trapeze was a great addition that I wish more rounds included, and the manhole was another unique ending.

Last up for the round 3s is Sugar Smacks. This round isn't as bad as people say it is. That being said, I still wouldn't call it great. The hoop + sweeper combo felt fresh but the falls were underwhelming. The spinning slide was fine but it just wasn't impressive.

Finally, we have the 2 best zones in the entire show.

The Scare Chair was such a great way to launch contestants in the zone. The visuals alone were just mindblowing. Blockbuster was such a massive and intimidating obstacle and I loved seeing people pinball down it. The Space Pod of Doom is my pick for what looks like the most difficult zone obstacle in history. It was insane how little control people had of where they went and it lead to some outstanding falls. The Bounder Pounder was a great way to end this zone.

The Slingshock did the "go down a ramp and then go flying into the zone" thing the best out of any launch. The standing position lead to some absolutely brutal zone entrances. The Throwtisseri was always fun and it was crazy seeing people's zone runs fall apart so quickly here. Dark Side of the Moon took the overused spinning slide concept and made it entertaining again. While people just avoiding the sweepers did get annoying, the 40 foot plunge through total darkness more than made up for that. Lastly is Twisted Falls. While people stopping on the trampolines did ruin this obstacle a bit, it's still my favorite zone ending of all time.

So there you have it. As much as I love this season, it's probably responsible for the end of Wipeout. So much money was put into it and the ratings just weren't there.
