SEASON 1 QUALIFIER STARTING OBSTACLES

The letters provided list whether the obstacle appeared in an episode(s) from the first filming block (A) or the second filming block (B).

Eps 1/3/4/7/10 (A): Sweep and Weep/Nutcrackers - First, the contestants must choose between a winding V-shaped path with two square blocks or five rectangular platforms to step across. As they cross either pathway, contestants will have to jump over a Sweeper arm rotating their way. As the contestant jumps, the Sweeper will be mechanically raised, messing up their jump and forcing them to fall in the water.
If they fall, contestants must climb a ladder to reach the second part of the obstacle. Seven rectangular platforms protrude from a wall, the first four at an incline, the last three at a decline. As they cross, a portion of the wall will swing upward to trip contestants. If they are able to clear this, a panel will then flip out of the wall as they descend to knock them off.
For Sweep and Weep's appearances in episodes 4 and 7, the blocks are not on the beam.
For the Nutcracker's appearance in episode 10, a water cannon will occasionally spray down from above the wall as the contestant passes.

--

Ep 2/5/6/8/9 (A): Spanker Planks/Tosser Tumbler - First, the contestants must cross a row of four planks protruding from a wall. As the contestants attempt to cross these platforms, some will raise or lower mechanically to take contestants by surprise. If the contestants can reach the fourth plank, a section of the wall will flip out as a further attempt at knocking them into the mud - sometimes the planks will not be moved to allow the contestant to instead get hit by the smackwall.
If they fall, contestants must climb a set of stairs to reach the second part of the obstacle. Here is a long trampoline strip that contestants must cross, above which are two cylinders. The contestants must climb over each of these cylinders which will whip left and right as they climb over.
As the contestants cross the obstacle, different items will be thrown or shot from the sidelines, corresponding to the episode's theme. There is also a booth above the Tosser Tumbler which two people stand in and drop items down on the contestants as they cross.

Themes

Ep 2: Social Media - Items such as large fake cellphones and "poop" emojis are thrown.

Ep 5: Wrestling - Dodgeballs are thrown and goo is shot.

Ep 6: 80's Dance Floor - Items such as Rubik's cubes and soft toy pianos are thrown.

Ep 8: Yacht - Items such as bags of money and inflatable boats are thrown.

Ep 9: Food Delivery - At the beginning of the Spanker Planks, contestants are given two bags of food to hold in each hand as they cross the planks, simulating a food delivery. Handfuls of pasta are thrown and spaghetti sauce is shot.

--

Eps 11/12/14/17 (A): Hoop Hopper/Rumble Road - First, the contestants must use a diving board to jump through one of two hoops attached to the ends of a Sweeper that is spinning in their direction and reach a platform. As they jump, the Sweeper will raise higher, meaning the contestant will need to jump harder than it first appears.
If they fall, contestants must climb a ladder from the water to reach the second part of the obstacle. Here are two long, mechanical planks with a small gap between them. Contestants must jump over this gap to clear the obstacle, but the platforms will be raised and lowered repeatedly to prevent contestants from crossing.

--

Ep 13/15 (A): Wallop Wall/Spin Cycle - First, the contestants must cross a thin wall using two long, thin ledges - the top one for their hands to cling to and the bottom one for them to stand on, with a gap midway across the lower beam. As they cross the wall, contestants will be surprised by two fists that come out from the wall and punch them in the face on either side of the ledge, an airbag that may explode in their face as they cross the gap between the lower beam sections, and a portion of the wall that can flip up - directly below the airbag - as contestants cross the gap. For each contestant not all of these pitfalls are used - likely because, if they were, everyone would be knocked off immediately.
If they fall, contestants must climb a set of stairs to reach the second part of the obstacle. Here is a long, narrow trampoline strip which competitors must cross. Rotating above this are two vertical disks, each containing three prongs. Contestants must cross the strip while avoiding being knocked off balance by the pegs rotating overhead.
For Spin Cycle's appearance in episode 15, foamy bubbles fall down from above the obstacle.

--

Ep 16 (B): Face Time With Nicole/Slosh Bucket Basher - First, the contestant must run along a beam and past a giant sledgehammer positioned to the side of the beam. When the contestant passes the hammer, it'll swing down towards them, knocking them off balance. After the hammer has been swung once, the second member of the team will be able to run past it; however, there is a small gap at the end of the beam before the landing platform. As the contestant reaches the end of the beam, it'll flip up and trip the contestant (but possibly onto the platform to clear the obstacle!).
If they fall, contestants must climb a ladder from the water to reach the second part of the obstacle. Here is a long tub with slanted edges that is being constantly filled with foam by two pipes above it. The contestant must jump down into the tub, make their way through it, and climb up to the other side. While they do this, the tub will rock and shake around. At the end, the contestant must jump across a gap to a landing platform. However, as the contestant attempts the leap, the platform will flip up in attempt to prevent them from reaching it.

--

Ep 19 (B): Ding Dong Damage - To begin the contestant must run along a beam while beam squirted with paint up to a wall with three doors. Hiding with each door is a different "surprise" - behind the first door is a giant hammer, behind the second door is an airbag, and in front of the third door is a piece of flooring that can spring up and push the contestant forward. The contestants have to open one of the doors; as they do the hammer will swing down towards them/the airbag will explode/the floor pop-up will knock them forward. If they avoid being knocked off the beam and into the mud below, the contestants can go through the door and make their way to the next obstacle.

SEASON 1A QUALIFIER OBSTACLE #2: BIG BALLS

This is a row of four giant inflatable rubber balls, each one lower than the last. To cross a stretch of water, the contestants have to jump from one to another, across the top, to reach a platform at the other end. If the contestants hesitate, and are too slow in climbing the ramp, the Motivator (a hidden panel in the ramp) will spring up to knock them forward. If contestants are too slow in getting onto the first ball, a second Motivator (the end of the platform, which can bounce up and down) will throw them off. Balanced on the fourth ball is Smallsy. If a contestant manages to knock him off they win $250.

SEASON 1A QUALIFIER OBSTACLE #4: JIGGLEATOR

Here the contestants have to cross a long shaking platform, climbing over barriers and avoiding pop-outs in the wall as they go. First, the contestant must climb over two wobbly round hurdles before ducking below a bar swinging back and forth overhead as the machine tips. After this point, a small circle will pop-out of the wall in attempt to knock the contestant off. If they pass this contestants must climb onto a raised portion of the obstacle [the specifics of this part are slightly different in some episodes; see below]. If they're slow here, a much larger circle in the wall will pop-out and send them forward. If they survive this, the contestant must climb down four steps and leap over to the finish platform; but if they fall off at any point, they need to swim to the edge of the pool and climb onto a second finish spot to stop the clock.
As they cross the obstacle, the contestants will have colorful paint and water shot at them.

Episode Specifics:

Ep 1/4/7: Hurdle - There is a small wobbly wall that must be climbed over before climbing onto the raised section (which is slightly lower here than in other versions of the obstacle).

Ep 2/5/6/8/9/11+: Wedge - The contestants must climb onto the raised section of the obstacle, but the front of this block is sloped - which forces the contestants to get closer to the large circle that will hit them.

Ep 3/10: Block - The contestants must climb onto a raised section of the obstacle.

SEASON 1A SECOND ROUND: THE GAUNTLET

This round is played in two heats, each containing three of the six remaining teams. The first team in each heat to get both of their members through this course advance to the Wipeout Zone, while the others are eliminated. The round is split into three individual sections.

--

Section 1: Carous-Hell

First, the contestants start sitting on the edge of a platform and must drop down onto the 'Propeller', a thick, four-armed Sweeper that spins below. The contestants must ride this Sweeper bar around and carefully climb off of it onto the landing platform it rotates above. The contestants then must hop over two small platforms to reach the checkpoint of the course.
In episode 7, the arms of the Propeller are thinner, meaning landing on it requires a bit more precision.

Then, the contestant must grab onto one of the four grip options (a handle, a trapeze bar, a ring, or an orb-shaped grip) that hang from above and hold on as they are spun past a Sweeper bar that raises as they swing over it. The contestants then must let go at the right time so that they safely land on the platform and can enter the next section.
In episodes 5, 9, and 11 and beyond, the orb grip is replaced by a 'Dangler', a padded cylinder with a ball on its end.

--

Section 2: Messy Mile

The Zone begins with a ramp down into a pit full of mud. The contestants must wade through this mud to reach the Wall Squeeze, where they will climb through one of three small openings in a wall to reach the other side. The contestants will then wade through some more mud and climb up a slope to clear the obstacle.

The contestants then must grab a zipline and hang on a they are quickly taken down a track, dismounting onto the landing platform. If the contestant misses the platform, they will fall into the mud and have to wade through it, causing them to lose time (however, they do not have to try it again).

Next, the contestants must climb over two large, slippery cylindrical bumps on the ground, using the rungs on the sides to get over. As they cross, the contestants will be sprayed with slime. On the other side of the second hill is another mud pit which the contestants will have to wade through to reach a slope. Contestants must climb this slope, using a rope attached to the top, to move to the next obstacle.

The contestants will then make their way to Mount Wipeout. Here, contestants must ascend an incline using the flat "ridges" of the mountain, as water rains down from above. As they near the top, the mountain will tip slightly making the incline less steep. If they reach the top, contestants will jump into the pool below to reach the next section; but if they slip down the mountain contestants will end up in another mud pit and have to climb again.

--

Section 3: Pummel Pool

Contestants must climb a tall ladder to reach the first obstacle. Here, the contestants will hop over a Big Ball, landing on a rectangular platform that freely tilts as weight is applied to it. The contestant must leap from here to the landing platform without sliding off to reach the checkpoint of the course.

Next, contestants must choose one of two obstacles to cross, the French Fries or the Lollipop. On the French Fries, contestants must cross the pool using a long, wide beam that slides back and forth as they cross it. As they cross, contestants must avoid three four-armed blades that rotate over the beam. On the Lollipop, the contestant must leap onto a beam as it rotates past the platform. The contestant must walk across this beam, as it spins, and then leap off the opposite end onto a narrow landing platform. At the center of this bridge is a large circle, whereas each end of the bridge is a small circle, making it look like a lollipop. Contestants may change their choice of obstacle if they desire, and clearing either will allow them to reach a second checkpoint on the course.

Lastly, the contestant must make a small jump onto a Big Ball and then a small jump off of it to land on a platform on the other side and clear the round.

As they cross this section of the course, blasts of water will spray to surprise contestants.

SEASON 1A WIPEOUT ZONE

*The Zone is run in a relay style. One member of the team must complete the first two obstacles and then tag their partner who will go on to complete the remaining two obstacles.*

Obstacle #1: Silver Bullet

To start, the contestant lies on their front in a tube. On 'Go' the tube will speed up a slanted track. When it reaches the end, the contestant will be shot out through the air, through a water blast, and land in the water below.

Obstacle #2: Vertigo

This is a massive rotating wheel with pegs and ledges fixed to the front. Contestants jump on to the left of the cycle and have to navigate their way through to a button in the center of the wheel. They must hit this button in order to lower a bridge to the right of the wheel. Once lowered, the contestant can exit the Snowglobe by jumping onto this bridge. The bridge is bouncy and will drop down slightly under the contestant's weight, making for a less stable landing.

Obstacle #3: Leap of Faith

After being tagged by their partner, the second member of the team will make their way to the end of a platform. From here, they will have to jump down several feet onto a small, rectangular platform as it circles past. If they are able to land on it, they will have to ride it around and jump off onto the landing platform.

Obstacle #4: Triple Threat

Here are three shapes attached to a wall - the first and third are hexagons and the shape in the center is a pentagon. A smaller triangle platform is attached to the center of each shape - however it is only loosely connected to the shape at its center point, so it will wobble if the contestant isn't properly balanced. All three of the shapes move around the wall in a circular motion. The contestants must leap from one triangle to the next when they are close enough together, and then leap from the third shape to the finish platform to stop the clock. While most contestants cross by standing on the wobbly triangles, some contestants have instead stood on the backing to get across.

To cross a stretch of water, the contestants have to jump from one to another, across the top, to reach a platform at the other end.
