Re: Holey Moley - Premieres on May 21!

Decent episode. Nothing very outstanding, but at least we got to see a couple of returning holes!

The celebrity stuff was alright, but kind of silly I thought. Good at first, but it was a bit overdone. Surprised at the people they were able to get though emoticon For some reason I really liked the commentary on Tanner's "edge of your seat" comment.

Slip N' Putt a bit overdone for a hole we've already seen so much, but it was fine. Same with Water Hazard - I really like the upgrade to Surf or Turf, but we don't need to see it every time.

Gopher It again is fine. It's a fun hole, although may get old if we see it much more without a break. The penalty for not staying on the bronco as long doesn't seem very significant, which could maybe be improved?

The Distractor is fine, though I was expecting a Mariachi band after Rob's intro emoticon But I liked how it was such a detailed distraction, rather than just a bunch of strippers dancing or something! I do wonder if they just filmed these segments separately and just mixed and matched them with episodes wherever they fit. If a Mariachi band IS in another episode, we'll know they swap them around or randomly select them!

Great to see Putt the Plank and Polcano again! Did they do the opening putt through the curved upward track before? I know they definitely had the X before, but I thought it was just a straight putt at it. It seems unlikely for them to change a hole midseason though, so I assume I just didn't notice it? They did brush over it this time (and skip those putts), so maybe I just missed it the first time. It's strange how you are allowed to be almost all in the water, but just touching the platform. I think it'd be clearer and more entertaining if they basically ruled it like Wipeout where you have to keep most of your body up on the mat. Polcano was fun too! Good to see someone complete it and just seeing it used again. Also nice how the other guy was able to make the putt over and avoid the lava rocks completely.

I must say Double Dutch was yet another somewhat disappointing final. Yet it was probably the best one yet. Don't know why the ending always seems such a letdown emoticon There were some good hits at least, but I feel like they should've kept the small windmill, so not everyone just immediately hit the ball to the end. Now it's just a matter of who takes fewer strokes to get up the hill, which feels a bit silly. And it felt a bit contrived - the one guy quits, Tanner Beard replaces him and it's such a straight shot and easy round.

Good to at least see some different games this time, but some of them are getting overused. Hope we see more of the week one holes soon and of course the unused clown thing! There should be one other unseen hole as well, I'm pretty sure we've only seen 15 of the 17 main ones so far.

I watched episode 3 just now. Agreed with Messup that watching the same person do the same stunt on Diving range felt a little redundant. emoticon It was fun overall and I enjoyed the new round with the gophers!

I'm late for a very important date! Well, the most important type of date I've had so far this Summer.. emoticon

Anyway, good to see an episode making use of the games from episode 1, though it pretty much solidified the fact that they filmed at least two separate blocks, both of which exclusively feature certain holes.

Anyway, it was good to see the whole Uranus (try saying that seriously!). It did seem a bit weird having no time limit for the planets (seeing as the original version of this hole in season 1 had them race across the steps), but I will say the planets are more perilous and I appreciate that they try to differentiate the courses too. I definitely think that it seems to easy to get in the hole-in-one pathway, and it almost resulted in another run where no one needs to cross the planets anyway! Luckily it didn't though. Why do they have that whole setup with the sand and rocks on the far right? I doubt the ball will ever go very far into it anyway!

Putt the Plank is still cool to see and one of the more impressive holes to look at. It does feel a bit short on the contestant actually hitting the ball (especially with them always skipping the qualifying putt), though I suppose it's more interesting to have the obstacles than the golf anyway! It did seem a bit silly that the lady was counted as on the obstacle when she was really just narrowly holding on by one hand. I know the lines are a bit gray with that, but Wipeout was able to pull that off without it ever seeming unfair.

Polcano is also still fun. Interesting how the rounds the past two weeks worked out essentially the same: one man hitting the ball into the goal area, while the other is able to cling onto the pole but still loses. Not an issue, just funny to notice!

Beaver Creek was good. Nothing extremely exciting, and it does appear not many are struggling with the log crossing, but it's fine. I know I loved Rob saying the hole sucked the first time, but I do feel like carrying that shtick Everytime makes it feel a bit less fun. I kind of expected them to go with it, but still! But yeah, good to confirm my suspicions on this hole being a replacement of Buns and Weiners.

Dragon's Breath still feels unexciting to me, but it's rare enough that I don't really care. I expected it'd pop-up every week, but this is its first appearance since the premiere!

Dutch Courage is fine, if a bit repetitive. Note that the second windmill actually seems to spin much slower, which probably more than makes up for the gap. Maybe that only happens when someone calls at the first half though? Definitely should stick the smaller windmill back in, seems a bit silly to have a straight shot at the hole on this show. Okay, you could get a straight shot through the small windmill, but it'd require some sort of skikl emoticon

Hole Number Two as a a finale was interesting. It seems to have featured from beginning to end of taping, but I thought it was kind of a mainstay as a first or second round, so it was good to see that mixup. At the same time, it felt like a minimal finale with both people outrunning the doors! They didn't seem as quick to fling them open today; it seemed like they had closer to 3 seconds when they usually seem to not give enough time! But anyway, it was a good way to finish.

I'm thinking it's about time to bring in the remaining courses. The season definitely had 12 regular episodes, so we're already halfway through that. Yet, we haven't seen the circus hole and I swear we're missing one more as we've only had 15 so far, by my count! That giant lumberjack statue is still around, so could the log hill one course still be there? I haven't seen it in the background, but it would make sense that we haven't heard about it yet (since its not new) and I'd thought it was weird of them to ditch such a big round anyway!

I want them to introduce them soon because if they don't, these holes will either be underused or crammed down our throats for the remaining episodes. Unless they're saving more than just The Tomb of Nefertitti for the final episode?.. emoticon I hope not, that'd be a huge waste!

Also, is there no prize money until the finale? I might just be inattentive, but I only hear about the hat, jacket and putter!

It's back on tomorrow! Bachelorette themed emoticon Worried it will be a bit over-the-top with the competitors and not focus on the obstacles enough. It is interesting to have an episode with a special group of competitors though.

Chris Harrison is invading Holey Moley now, too! Interesting that the Bachelorette episode is 7th in the season, just like the two Bachelorette-based Wipeout episodes were!

Re: Holey Moley - Premieres on May 21!

I'm playing catch-up, but will try to get both episodes done right now.

I honestly missed Polcano because I was helping my Dad with bags, but I hear the contestants were annoying? Still good to see the round anyway.

Putter Ducky is nice as it's one of those rounds that seemed to be split between the earlier episodes filmed and the later episodes filmed; therefore, it seems more balanced and doesn't always appear with the same obstacle counterparts. Also a good and pretty fair obstacle, despite my initial harsh words towards it being too difficult.

Beaver Creek is still a fine round. The rolling log proves that simple works best (though I would say the rotisserie for Buns and Weiners is better), even if the hosts don't agree! I do find it interesting that (as of this episode, I know it isn't true after ep. 8) Beaver Creek has appeared more than Buns and Weiners, despite Beaver Creek being lowered to the title of "a budget modification of Buns and Weiners".

Dragon's Breath is still so-so. Despite being boring to me, it does look attractive so you can see why it seems popular.

Uranus is another hole I find really attractive ( emoticon ). No, seriously, I do like the course a lot, and crossing the planets is deceptively difficult! Seems some people try to run across them, which I honestly think they must be doing for style because I doubt it makes things easier! I'm also glad the ball doesn't seem to go directly for the hole-in-one as much as I feared.

Hole Number Two is still fine. It's strange how almost too many people run past the doors now, but it's better than no one making it I guess. It's used a lot, but understandably as it's clearly one of their favorite new concepts.

Now, Double Dutch Courage is a bit different. It's a decent hole, but I think it appears too much. Since a very similar hole featured in nearly every episode last season, I find it strange that it appears almost every week this year. Additionally, it doesn't suit the position of final round very well. The contestants basically have a straight shot at the final hole without the smaller windmill, and then (once past the blades) it's just "Who can get up the incline with less trouble. It could be much worse, but it could be better. Also, why does the second set of blades go so slowly, completely negating the drawbridge element?

Overall, I liked the episode and it was clearly made to be a standout. I enjoyed it more than I expected, and I think the theme actually benefitted it. As long as they stick to only a few episodes like this each season, I think they will suit the show very well. I loved Chris and Jeannine's skit - you know the one emoticon

I wish the finals would be more exciting and use some of the newer courses rather than be mainly rehashes/the electrocution thing.

Still glad I have it to tide me over this Summer!

Re: Holey Moley - Premieres on May 21!

Episode 8! A bit split with this one, but overall an interesting episode.

Dragon's Breath's return is fine, although hopefully we'll see a bit of a rest after this one.

Putt the Plank was also sort of predictable for recent weeks (not least because it had a direct reference to the episode title!), but it's still a good hole. Nice to see someone make it through the shark with ease! And the other lady falling was the initial clip they released back months ago!

Considering these courses, it was pleasantly surprising to see Buns and Weiners return! Not only has it been awhile, but you usually expect Beaver Creek (or neither) on this set, so it was cool to see this one. Also nice to see someone fall off the rotisserie for the first time in awhile!

Diving Range was also somewhat surprising for this reason. Not a fan though. I know it's obviously a shtick with Joey and the judges obviously failing him (although a worrying amount of commenters on Instagram and Primetimer appear to be unable to grasp it emoticon), but that doesn't mean it's funny the third time. Glad we at least had weeks since the last one, but it was still stale after its first appearance regardless. And, as I said it's obviously a setup, but it results in the better diver not getting credit for their score! The first woman actually had a great dive, yet was given the same mundanely high scores as usual. So the dives are essentially pointless! Then we didn't actually see the golfing itself. I remember reading that they only used this one three times, so we should've seen the back of it.. emoticon I'm sure it won't return next year anyway.

The Distractor was also pretty dull this week.

I really enjoyed Uranus again emoticon It's actually a good round and has some good wipeouts. They've made up for its absence in the first few weeks though!

Double Dutch Courage as a final for the third time this season and second time consecutively (also, three of the last four episodes have ended with this round). It's really not the new and exciting thing that I want to spotlight and it's pretty anticlimactic in itself. Almost another hole-in-one though, which was exciting! Rare to see both people pass the windmills without issue.

Right now for final rounds we've had: Double Dutch (x3), Frankputt (x2), Uranus (x1), Slip N' Putt (x1), Hole Number Two (x1).

I think that things like Putt the Plank, Dragon's Breath, Gopher It and Putter Ducky would make much better finals than these. And definitely Polcano - probably benefitted by being an offspring of Mount Holey Moley!

But the biggest thing for me this week was in the overhead shots. It briefly showed the clown hole that we've yet to see, and then a bunch of spinning pyramids next to it! So the pyramids (and Tomb of Nefertitti) could be the missing courses. Wonder why they've held them back so long? Unless, of course, the pyramids are part of the final round since they are kind of the same ancient Egypt type of theme.. emoticon But surely there need to be three more holes, as we've only seen 15 thus far!

I hope they're not all going to be saved for the final. There are only four more main episodes left, so it actually seems like a valid possibility at this point. Saving the Tomb is alright but saving 1/6 of all the holes just for one episode? Sounds like a waste to me.

Re: Holey Moley - Premieres on May 21!

Late again! I'm not going to comment on each episode anymore. It's getting too repetitive TBH.

Episode nine was especially bland, with a lineup of very predictable obstacles. I might believe it was the first one they taped, considering it seemed to be all earlier obstacles. I did enjoy The Distractor for being unique again, with the wall of smoke!

Episode 10 almost felt similar to episode 9. I can't believe they used the diving joke five times (so far), and that it was seen in three consecutive episodes. I was wondering if they'd even repeat it once, and look how often we've seen it now emoticon

I thought it was interesting how this episode used the same apparatus twice - Beaver Creek and then Buns and Weiners. Never thought we'd see those in the same episode, and it makes me even more confused on how these were filmed. Also, I thought the Buns and Weiners hole came before the Beaver Creek, but nos I don't even know how it works.

I get the feeling this was either the first or last appearance for Buns and Weiners with the hotdog bridge being "broken". I suppose that would explain both being used in the same episode (because either they took the mechanics out to prepare for it to become the tree bridge or they hadn't added them in her from Beaver Creek). Maybe I'm thinking too much about this emoticon

The balance of the holes seems to have gotten way worse. Double Dutch Courage is popping up every episode, and it is basically a season 1 rehash round (and not as great as it's made out to be IMO). Hole Number Two is also getting very old to me, and I can't believe it was used as a final for both consecutive episodes. The final is getting to be a 50/50 choice between windmills and porta-potties emoticon

Dragon's Breath also went from being underrepresented to being overused veeery quickly.

Then we've seen so little of Gopher It, Frankenputt, Slip N' Putt, Putter Ducky. The balance is honestly a bit disappointing to me.

And it seems the two or three remaining holes really will only appear in the final. Big waste there emoticon

I'll just keep talking to myself emoticon

This was an interesting read:

https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2020/05/holey-moley-2-behind-scenes-questions-answers/

First and foremost, I appreciate how much the person being interviewed seems to know and care about the show.

I wish we could've seen the scenes of Curry building his hole. Would've been interesting to see what they'd do with that, but I like the cartoons now too emoticon

It's interesting that they didn't like the idea of hitting the ball while doing the obstacle. I guess that explains why we saw so little of Sweet Spot and why the log thingy didn't return. I thought those two actually worked alright, but there we go.

The extra blade in Double Dutch definitely helps. I'm still sick of it, but I would've been very fed-up if no one got hit! They said Polcano wasn't very interesting until the pole was added.. huh? I guess it was just the straight zipline down from the volcano like it was in season one. Wonder what they would've called it then.

They say Dutch Courage should only appear eight times, so I guess we're done with it? You won't see me crying if so, but I have a feeling we have at least one more time somehow. Also, seems like the Distractor is either gone or has only one appearance left in it. They say some holes will only played once, so I guess they are saving all of the unseen ones for the finale emoticon Really curious how that episode will work - and how they'll choose which courses to play so that no one has the advantage of playing a hole they've already done in their first episode!

They love to hate on Beaver Creek but there are a couple that are much worse in my mind (DIVING RANGE and Dragon's Breath/Frankenputt). How was Uranus repurposed into Putter Ducky? Aren't they completely different set??

Check out the first photo on that page you linked, it looks like the two platforms for Putter Ducky are the same two for Uranus, it's just shot from the other side like Water Hazard.
