Re: Wipeout - EPISODE GUIDE

SEASON 1 THIRD ROUND C: COOKIE CUTTER

This third round only appeared in Wipeout's pilot episode ("episode 9").

This round is played individually in a time-trial format, with the fastest four contestants of the eight advancing to the Wipeout Zone.
To begin, the contestants have to jump from the starting ledge onto a round moving platform. This platform circles around under four walls in the air.
Each wall has a different shape cut in it. In order to pass by each wall, the contestants need to get themselves through the shapes. The first wall is a half-'Y'-shape. The second is a round hole that needs to be jumped though, so the contestants have to time it right so that they land back on the platform on the other side. The third hole is in the shape of a bent over person, and the fourth is in the shape of a person doing a star-jump - which again needs to be jumped through.
If a contestant falls off at any time they mustclimb back up onto the nearest ledge (there's one behind each wall) and then jump back onto the moving platform. Once they've passed through all four walls they need to ride the platform to the finishing ledge and safely land on it to stop the clock and complete the round.

Re: Wipeout - EPISODE GUIDE

SEASON 1 WIPEOUT ZONE (MAIN)

Obstacle #1: Killer Surf

To start, the contestants must slide down a tall steep water slide. At the bottom they fly off the end and land in the water below to swim to the next stunt. Each week, the contestants are given different objects to slide down with.

Variations/Twists:

Ep 1/10: "Rubber Ring" - Contestants slide down the slope on a giant rubber ring.

Ep 2: "Rings and Foam" - Contestants slide down the slope on a giant rubber ring. The slope is coated in foam.

Ep 3: "Sled" - Contestants slide down the slope on a flimsy sled.

Ep 4: Flaming Killer Surf - Contestants slide down the slope on a giant rubber ring. As they slide down the slope, pyrotechnics will shoot off from side of the slope.

Ep 5: "Bareback" - Contestants slide down the slope lying flat on their backs.

Ep 6: "Choices" - Before starting their run, the contestants choose whether to sit on a giant rubber ring, a flimsy sled, an air mattress, or go down the slope flat on their backs.

Ep 8: "Rings and Balls" - Contestants slide down the slope on a giant rubber ring. At the bottom of the slope is a pool of plastic balls that the contestant will burst through as they fly off the slope.

Obstacle #2: Barrel Run

Next, the contestants have to run up a long ramp while jumping over barrels that are being rolled down towards them.

Variations/Twists:

Ep 4: "Hose Off" - A water cannon is attached to the top of the ramp to spray contestants as they climb.

Obstacle #3: Climbing Wall

This is a wall with rock-climbing handles and a tiny ledge at the bottom. The contestants need to use this to reach the next obstacle.

Variations/Twists:

Ep 4/5: Rope Wall - The rocks are removed from the wall and ropes are now attached from the top. Competitors must use these ropes to cross the wall.

Ep: 6/8/10: Water Wall - A waterfall comes down from the top of the climbing wall, obscuring the rocks and making the grips more slippery.

Obstacle #4: Spinner

Now the contestants need to jump onto this fast-spinning sloped disk, and then leap off again at the other side. There are ten pillars spread around on the top (eight on the outside of the disk and two nearer to the middle), so the contestants need to time their jump on right or they'll get knocked away.

Variations/Twists:

Ep 5: "Limited Entry" - Two strips of latex are attached to the outer pillars of the spinner, blocking all but two of the gaps, and making timing the jump onto the disk all the more treacherous.

Obstacle #5: Launch Pads

These are four small trampolines spaced out in a row. Each trampoline is at a different height, with the first and third being low down while the second and fourth are high up. The contestants need to jump from one to another, through falling water, and then from the fourth onto the finish platform. Above the pads are three waterfalls to make the obstacle even more treacherous.

Ep 6: "Foam Waterfalls" - To go with the foam-covered Wipeout Zone theme, the three waterfalls instead drop foam on the contestants instead of water.

ZONE-WIDE VARIATIONS

Ep 6: The water in the Zone is filled with foam (from the obstacles to the water) to make things more slippy.

Ep 10: Contestants must tackle a storm as they face forceful winds, heavy rain, and tons of debris throughout the course.

PILOT EPISODE WIPEOUT ZONE

For the pilot episode ("episode 9"), many of the stunts in the Wipeout Zone were different than all of the other episodes.

Obstacle #1: Killer Surf

To start, the contestants must slide down a tall steep water slide on a sled. At the bottom they fly off the end and land in the water below to swim to the next stunt.

Obstacle #2: Triple Threat

Contestants must climb a ladder to reach the stunt. The obstacle consists of three giant triangular blocks in a row, which will rotate around when the contestants' weight is on either side. They need to quickly make it across all three, jumping from one to another, and then onto a ramp, leading to the next part of the course. Above each triangle is a water hose to make the obstacle even more treacherous.

Obstacle #3: Spinner

Now the contestants need to jump onto this fast-spinning sloped disk, and then leap off again at the other side. There are eight pillars spread around on the top (six on the outside of the disk and two nearer to the middle), so the contestants need to time their jump on right or they'll get knocked away.

Obstacle #4: Blast Off

To reach the finish platform, the contestants need to cross two beams while being blasted with water from all angles. The first beam slopes slightly upward and has three waterfalls positioned above it, as well as water cannons spraying contestants from the sides. The second beam has jets of water spraying up from it and is also sprayed by water cannons from all angles.

Re: Wipeout - EPISODE GUIDE

SEASON 2 OVERVIEW

Season 2 was seventeen episodes long and filmed on two separate block of courses. The first block filmed ("Block A") had four obstacles in the Qualifier, while the second block filmed ("Block B") had five. Both courses had the first obstacle change weekly and small modifications on other obstacles throughout the season. Each block had its own second round. The first block had one third round, used for every episode, while the second block had two third rounds, which were alternated between throughout the block. Each course had a different Wipeout Zone, Block A with five obstacles and Block B with four. The contestants had to beat each Wipeout Zone obstacle in order to win the show (with the exception of the Gears of Doom, which contestants could choose to skip, and receive a time penalty in doing so). In episodes using the second block, a short segment was added during the commercial break before the Wipeout Zone, which featured a "Never Before Seen" Wipeout from the Qualifier of the episode.

Thirteen of the episodes in this season were regular gameplay episodes, while the four others were special episodes. The season began with the 'Wipeout Bowl', a special 90-minute-long episode which aired during the halftime of the 2009 Super Bowl. In this episode, the courses were themed, and 12 female Cheerleaders faced off against 12 male "couch potatoes". The season also had an All-Star special, in which favorite contestants from the first season (and a couple from the Wipeout Bowl) who were unable to win the show came back for a second chance at winning $50,000. This season also featured the first pairs episode, in which 12 couples competed together for the prize. The final special was the "Australia" episode, in which the American hosts voiced over an episode of Wipeout Australia. This was the first and only time that an episode from a different country was re-voiced and broadcast to the American audience.

This season saw an increase in themed episodes, including the Wipeout Bowl itself, a "movie" themed Qualifier and an episode themed wholly around balls. The season finale was food-themed, and many of the obstacles were modified to fit with this idea.

Re: Wipeout - EPISODE GUIDE

SEASON 2 EPISODE DETAILS

The parenthetical number is the production number of the corresponding episode (first digit represents season 2, the following two digits represent the episode filmed).
Episodes ranging from production number 201 to 208 are from block A, while episodes with production numbers 209 to 216 are from block B.

Ep 1 (206) ("Wipeout Bowl I"): February 1, 2009

In this 90-minute long special episode, 12 female cheerleaders faced-off against 12 male "couch potatoes". The fastest six cheerleaders and fastest six couch potatoes would advance to the second round.

$50,000 Winner: Monica "Baby Face" Kaufmann

Notes:

-All of the obstacles in this episode were themed around the Super Bowl, because it originally aired during halftime of the 2009 Super Bowl. NFL players Michael Irvin, Keyshawn Johnson, and Reggie Bush also joined the action and commentated for one round each.

-Monica Kauffman was the first female competitor ever shown to win an episode.

-Discounting an individual run in the couples episode, Monica Kauffman had the fastest Wipeout Zone time of block A in season 2.

-This episode features Wipeout mascot Ballsy's first appearance.

-Shawnee Achord quit during the Dizzy Dummy 2.0 round. After she quit, it was decided that the remaining competitors would once again face the Teeter Totters, rather than the Keg Run (likely because many of the "kegs" had been dented by people diving onto them).

-Chelsea Costa was the first contestant shown to beat Block A's Log Roll obstacle.

-One "couch potato" was heavy enough to break one of the cylinders of the Bouncy Football Bridge as he crossed it, causing it to become dislodged and fall down with him.

Ep 2 (210) ("Wipeout of Hockey"): May 27, 2009

$50,000 Winner: "Cheap Date" Tim Spratt

Winner of Sweeper $1,000: Fernando "Suave" Garcia

Notes:

-This episode is officially classed as the premiere of season 2, with the Wipeout Bowl considered a special.

-Tim Spratt had the fastest Wipeout Zone time of block B in season 2.

-Devon Berry was the first contestant of the season to quit the Wipeout Zone.

-Tim Spratt was the first contestant shown to beat block B's Swing Set obstacle.

Ep 3 (202) ("Old and Cold"): June 3, 2009

$50,000 Winner: "Deadbeat Daughter" Michelle Hart

Notes:

-This episode was the first ever to have an all-female Wipeout Zone lineup.

-Claudia Morel and Theresa Rivera both quit the Wipeout Zone, making this one of the only episodes to have multiple players forfeit in the Zone. Theresa Rivera forfeit after the very first obstacle due to an ankle injury.

-Sam D.W. Griffith quit during the Dizzy Dummy 2.0 round.

-This episode, particularly the Qualifier, was filmed on a stormy day, making the course even more slippery and treacherous.

Ep 4 (214) ("Rocket to Wipeout"): June 10, 2009

$50,000 Winner: "Toy Tester" Chuck Trout

Winner of Sweeper $1,000: "Toy Tester" Chuck Trout

Notes:

-The Wipeout Zone was made harder by being covered in foam.

-Chuck Trout became the first competitor on Wipeout to place first in all four rounds of the show.

-This episode was the first episode of Wipeout in which no girls reached the third round.

-This episode featured the first Wipeout Zone in which the first contestant to run it ended up winning.

-Donn Hallman quit before the Rocket round as he was afraid to be so high above the water.

Ep 5 (205) ("The Sisterhood of the Travelling Hot Pants"): June 10, 2009

$50,000 Winner: Scotty "Songbird" Granger

Notes:

-This episode featured the first ever siblings to appear on Wipeout: Lauren, Giana, and Gillian Gipe. Two of the three sisters made it to the Wipeout Zone, although Giana Gipe had to forfeit near the start of the course as she could not pull herself up to tackle the Raging Rapids.

-Patsy Chambers became the first contestant to quit Wipeout before falling off an obstacle - she barely started the Sweeper Run before giving in.

Ep 6 (203) ("Fender, Bender"): June 17, 2009

$50,000 Winner: "Run, Forrest, Run!" Forrest Vanderbilt

Notes:

-Excluding the pilot episode, Forrest Vanderbilt clocked the fastest time ever in the Qualifier, at 1:06.9.

-Forrest Vanderbilt was the first contestant shown to beat Block A's Fender Bender obstacle.

-Before the Dizzy Dummy 2.0 round, Jason Goldman got sick and was forced to leave the competition. A random replacement was chosen of the six contestants who failed to clear King of the Mountain, and Catherine Jansen won. This was the first time a competitor had to be replaced.

Ep 7 (216) ("Celebrity Style"): June 24, 2009

$50,000 Winner: "Campus Cop" Jose Valdepeña

Winner of Sweeper $1,000: "TV Junkie" Jason Sandeman

Notes:

-The Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Swing Set was the first instance of product placement being used within the show. There was even a huge billboard before the obstacle advertising the upcoming movie.

-This episode had a Qualifier themed all around movies, thus explaining the title.

-In the Rocket round, John Henson dubbed in lines for the steam-spraying "spaceman", making it appear as if he was the spaceman. While Henson would appear in-person for several rounds in the future, this was the only time in which John Henson was purported to be a character which he wasn't.

-This episode features the closest Wipeout Zone elimination ever shown, with Janica Polmanteer edging out Jason Sandeman by .07 seconds.

-Steven Lara quit during the Wipeout Zone.

-This was the final episode of Block B (and of the entire season) to be filmed.

Ep 8 (213) ("The 500th Contestant"): July 1, 2009

$50,000 Winner: "Choir Boy" Donovan Eberling

Winner of Sweeper $1,000: "500th Contestant" Valerie Barrera

Notes:

-As the title suggests, this episode featured the show's 500th contestant: Valerie Barrera

-The Qualifier in this episode started in a unique way: Rather than the usual steep ramp down to the floating mats, contestants had to jump down from a raised platform onto a stack of blocks atop the floating mats before reaching the first obstacle. This led to many wipeouts on a non-obstacle!

-Terry Smith was the first contestant shown to beat Block B's Big Ball obstacle.

-Teri Lathrop was forced to drop out before the last round of the Slippery Course due to a shoulder injury.

Ep 11 (204) ("Wipeout, Like A Brother"): July 22, 2009

$50,000 Winner: "M. Night Lookalike" Kerin Alfaro

Notes:

-Kerin Alfaro had the slowest winning time of Block A and of the entire season.

-After noticing how many people had slipped on the starting ramp of the Qualifier, John Henson claimed to have coated it in baby oil before shooting to make people slide more wildly.

$50,000 Winner: "Milk Man" Tyler Rowley

In this episode, John Anderson and John Henson dub-over an Australian episode (Wipeout Australia's original episode #2), with Kelly Landry as the acting sideline reporter. In this episode, 24 Australians competed for $20,000.

$20,000 Winner: "Buffman" Shannon Fowler

-This episode featured the first ever brother and sister duo to appear on Wipeout: Anabella and Luke Leon.

-During the Sweeper round, Anabella Leon grabbed onto the bar as it swung past, swinging into her brother (Luke) who draped himself over the bar and held onto her to remain in the game. She fell and Luke held on, resulting in Anabella placing seventh and just missing out on advancing.

-Before the Dizzy Dummy, Luke Leon withdrew from the competition and was replaced with his sister Anabella.

-In the final round of the Dizzy Dummy, Anabella Leon and Dan Ryan were both on the floating mat connected to the finish platform, but Anabella held Dan down as she got up and stepped to the finish platform, allowing her to advance and eliminating Dan.

$50,000 Winner: Eric "The Stache" Agrelius

Winner of Sweeper $1,000: "Robert Redford Look-a-Like" Jay Hook

Re: Wipeout - EPISODE GUIDE

SEASON 2 QUALIFIER STARTING OBSTACLES

The letters provided list whether the obstacle appeared in an episode(s) from the first filming block (A) or the second filming block (B). The color of the obstacle name indicates whether it is a water or a mud obstacle (mud obstacles are colored brown, while water obstacles are colored blue).

Ep 1 (A): Heavy Bag Run - First the contestants have to run along this narrow beam over the mud while avoiding six horizontal punch-bags being swung at them. If they get hit by a bag, it'll knock them off and into the mud below. There is a set of stairs positioned midway through the mud pit so contestants who fall off the first half of the obstacle can climb up and attempt the second half.

Ep 2 (B): A Bridge Too Far - Here there are two sets of five 'bridges' over the mud, both arranged in an 'H'-shape, with a platform between them. The contestants need to jump from one bridge to another to make it to the middle platform, and then over the second set to the other side. The trouble is, the bridges are placed just too far apart to reach easily, and some will tip up when landed on. Contestants may climb up a set of stairs attached to the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half.

Ep 3 (A): Plank in the Face - Here there are two groups of raised planks (seven planks in the first group, eight in the second group) spaced across the water, with a platform between the two. The contestants need to jump from one plank to another to make it to the middle platform, and then over the second set to the other side. However, seven of the planks aren't fixed securely, so will tip up when trodden on. Contestants may climb up the ladder on the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half.

Ep 4/16 (B): Banana Hammocks/Banana Split - To begin, there is a row of six solid yellow hammocks over the mud that constantly swing back and forth. The contestants have to jump from one to another, over the first three, then onto a solid platform, and then over the last three to reach the next part of the course. Contestants may climb up a set of stairs attached to the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half. For the obstacle's appearance in episode 17, the second hammock in the first set and first hammock in the second set each have a plastic red ball ("cherry") balanced on a heap of foam ("ice cream") on top of them.

Ep 5/13 (A): Sweeper Run - Here there are two beams above the water, one after another with a platform between the two. A double-ended Sweeper arm rotates over the first beam toward the contestant, and two double-ended Sweeper arms rotate over the second beam - the first slightly higher and rotating toward the contestant and the second slightly lower and rotating away from the contestant. The contestants need to cross both beams by avoiding, and jumping over, the arms so they don't get knocked off. A tall round wobbly podium is positioned before the first beam and after the second beam to connect the course. Contestants may climb up the ladder on the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half. On the obstacle's second appearance (episode 13), the first Sweeper arm was made much thicker.

Ep 6/11 (A): Breakaway Planks - To begin, there are two sets of eight planks laid sideways in a row over the mud. Half of each plank is supported, but the other half sticks out over the mud. The contestants have to run across one set, then the other, only stepping on the unsupported halves. They have to move quickly though, because some of the planks aren't secure, so will drop when stepped on. Contestants may climb up a set of stairs attached to the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half.

Ep 7 (B): Rug Pull - To begin, there is a wide, round beam with three rugs hanging over it. The contestants have to use the beam to cross the mud, running over the rugs as they go. They need to move quickly though, as the rugs will be pulled away at speed when the contestants are on top of them. Contestants may climb up a set of stairs attached to the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half. The first half of the obstacle contains one longer rug. The second half of the obstacle contains two slightly shorter rugs.

Ep 8/12 (B): Spiked Fenders - Here there are two sets of three spiked boat fenders (giant rubber ovals with foam spikes on) suspended in a row, at different heights, over the mud. The contestants need to step across them, but as they're not secured still, the fenders will freely spin around. Contestants may climb up a set of stairs attached to the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half.

Ep 9 (A): Diving Board Trapeze - Jumping off a springboard, contestants have to grab a trapeze bar and swing over the first pool of mud, landing on a platform at the other side. Next is another pool of mud to swing over in the same way, this time landing on a lower foam mat. Contestants may climb up a set of stairs attached to the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half. As this obstacle appeared in a couples episode, the second member of the pair to attempt the obstacle would have to time their jump as the trapeze would be swinging from their teammate having just attempted the obstacle.

Ep 10 (B): Sweeper Trees - Here there are two beams over the water, one after another with a platform between the two. Rotating over each beam is a "tree" of two giant double-ended Sweeper arms. One is shorter than the other in each set, and positioned above the second longer arm. There is also an extra "tree" of arms right at the start of the second beam. There are three arms in this "tree" - two long arms, one above the other, and then a shorter arm right at the bottom. The first two "trees" rotate toward the contestant, while the third rotates away from the contestant. The contestants need to cross both beams by avoiding, jumping over and ducking under, the arms so they don't get knocked off. Contestants may climb up the ladder on the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half.

Ep 14 (B): Bally-Go-Round - To begin there is a rotating horizontal pole with a giant ball on each end. The contestants have to jump onto a ball and ride it around over the water to reach a platform on the other side. Next there are two of these poles in a row, each with a ball on both ends, the second pole longer than the first. Again, the contestants need to jump onto a ball. They have to stay on until they're close enough to leap onto one of the balls on the final pole, which rotates in the opposite direction. If they get on a third ball they must ride it around to reach the platform and the next part of the course. Contestants may climb up the ladder on the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half.

Ep 15 (A): Tipsy Towers - To begin there are two groups of 17 tall round podiums above the water, with a platform in between. Some of these podiums are solid, while others will bend when trodden on. The contestants need to cross the first set to reach the middle platform, and then cross the second set to reach the next part of the course. Contestants may climb up the ladder on the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off the first half.

Ep 16 (Australia Special): Topple Towers - Here there are two sets of four towers in a row. Each tower is made of three stacked foam blocks. The contestants have to run over the top of the first three to reach a platform, and then over the second set to reach the next part of the course. Because the blocks aren't fixed they will fall over when trodden on. Contestants may climb a set of stairs attached to the middle platform to attempt the second half of the obstacle if they fall off of the first half.

Re: Wipeout - EPISODE GUIDE

SEASON 2A QUALIFIER OBSTACLE #2: BIG BALLS

(Eps. 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 11, 13, 15)

This is a row of four giant inflatable rubber balls that need to be crossed, jumping from one to another across the top, to reach the next part of the course. If the contestants hesitate and are too slow in jumping onto the first ball, The Motivator (a giant mallet) will swing down and knock them off the platform.

Variations/Twists:

Ep 1: "Linebacker" - Instead of the traditional mallet Motivator, a football linebacker stands on the platform to push contestants who hesitate to jump onto the first ball. The balls are all dressed to look like football helmets.
