How I'd do Series 3 - with the benefit of no budget limit!

While I'm not close to finishing series 2 yet, sounds it was a bit of a let down - at least to most people on here. So here's, in my opinion, the best plan moving onward to series three. Of course I could say simply they need more variety - but that doesn't really help the cause of proving it's easy to variate a couple of obstacles in simple ways. So I've gone the other route and thought way too much!

I would start by dividing filming in three five episode blocks - so essentially getting a whole different batch of games every five episode - perhaps also dispersing the episodes in a different order so the episodes can alternate between each block. Really though needs more creativity and thought put into each block as well so I'll begin.

Block 1: The old/new block

Might as well throw a little bit of the old in there really to get a bit more use out of those games before it's all torn down. So this block's main focus is essentially using the games that will be removed afterward - but with twists to make them a bit more withstandable after already seeing each over the previous 20 episodes. So Block 1, with ways to mix each game up included with it:

Slippery Wall (no ropes, wider mud pit, balls rolled down)
Honeycomb Maze (not much here, as it's not a bad game, but perhaps one week where some of the doors are locked, thus limiting the contestant's options a bit)
Mud Ball (a bit of a rubbish game really so this will be it's farewell block - essentially mix it up each appearance with: a hose being sprayed, contestants wearing an eyepatch over one of their eyes, a much smaller ball in place of the usual volleyball, and perhaps just mixing it up by playing it in the nighttime. I would use the hose twice as a solid variation
Wipe Out (know this one isn't yet - but hopefully will be eventually! - on the new set, which is a bit of a shame really. Still, I think this one has a lot of mileage so it doesn't need any variations in this block - the new location will be a mix up enough!)
Skipping Stones (really a classic game, so I wouldn't rely on variations here for this block.)
And to give each game a little more time before they - well Slippery Wall and Mud Ball anyway - are done away with, I have only used those five games in this block. Of course followed by Final Fall and the Show Down.

Block 2: Transferring period

Block 2 and I'd say that the main goal of this one should be to bring over some of the past games from series one to add some more possibilities to the new set - and perhaps a completely new take on the Slippery Wall! Also would have the first ever teams ep in the form of a married couples special, with 50 or so teams competing. A little bit less of a focus on variation here, except for with Skipping Stones really:

Brown Nosers (The replacement for Slippery Wall that I was referring to above here, and really struggled to find a decent name for it! Still, the game is essentially running up a slightly steeper - but shorter - slope than the Slippery Wall, with no ropes up at the top. Contestants at the top then climb into a large mudpit - filled with loads of tennis balls. If they can grab a tennis ball, they must slide down the other slide of the wall and into the thin mud pit from the old Slippery Wall. They must climb out of the mud pit with their ball in hand, if not they'll have to get another ball by doing it all all over again! I'd say 5 minutes is plenty of time here really, and I'm sure we'd see plenty of good wipeouts going into the large mud pit. So basically Slippery Wall Deluxe, featuring a bigger mud pit.)
Skipping Stones (Using this again, but with variation and I'd say that contestants could also wear that eyepatch here for an episode of two. For the other three weeks they could have a bit of continuation by making competitors hold a tennis ball all the way over the Skipping Stones. Perhaps a whole episode could have the tennis balls used in every game? Hmm... Also might replace one edition of the tennis ball carrying twist with the regular version, to not complicate the couples' week too much.)
Skittles (This new set would be similar to the old one, though perhaps with a slightly narrower lane, to keep the ball rolling at the pins. Don't want it too narrow, though so they can play Now You See Me in Block 3 - though perhaps the width of the ramp could be modified again between blocks, or maybe I should switch Now You See Me into this block, and then save Skittles for Block 3, so the width is only changed once? emoticon I'll rest on that one!)
Slip Way (purest form of the game really - and not much I can think of that will positively impact the game as a twist either - so leave it as it is. Perhaps if one member of a couple makes it in the couple SP, they could both advance? But otherwise, same ruling as ever!)
Extinction (New set now, but thinking instead of the one big tree there could be several of those thinner stalks we see in the background of series two - so essentially hiding spots are better spread out but far more precise!)
Mushroom Trip (I would make the mushroom ride slightly longer, and perhaps make it spin the slightest bit slower, because I think we see everyone just bounce off of the floating platform really!)
Final Fall and I'd change it up a bit by having three demons.
Show Down as always.

Block 3: The final catch up

Block 3 will be without a starting game - I would hope they would try to sustain Brown Nosers more than they did Slippery Wall by not playing it week on week. Also would see the alternate hill game - whichever that may be! - Rice Bowl Down Hill's return and a couple of other old games with new twists. I think I'd have a special ep "Brits in Indonesian" where fans of the Indonesia version go to try their luck at it in real life! Here are the ideas here:

Now You See Me (again, I'd say it's return is enough of a variation as it is - for the most part - but perhaps one week I'd give it the simple variation of the contestants playing as Skittles instead - and probably have that be the fifth episode from this block shown on telly!)
Honeycomb Maze (this time, I would hope for a few more variations - I'd add a "hole in the ground" for the whole block and vary it other ways for 3 of the 5 eps filmed in the block. Perhaps carry the locked doors over to this set for one ep, maybe a ball to pick up in the maze another week (as someone suggested in the Variations thread), and one week wearing an eyepatch should do this game enough variation)
Rice Bowl Down Hill (Again, stealing one of the variations ideas and saying I'd stick some rocks around the slope for the contestants to avoid.)
Wipe Out (I'd say make it like that one version I saw ages ago where there's a shark tunnel on the platform to crawl through - should make it all much more difficult! With the addition of having to bend over, the platform guard wouldn't really be necessary really.)
Mushroom Trip (I'd have the floating pontoon be rectangular this time - and once again a little bit further away from starting platform.)
Final Fall would help to float the Honeycomb Maze guards a few extra bucks be fore the series ends, by way of having them jump out and frighten/chase the contestants to a random hole.)
Show Down

And there you have it - an original way to break the series down but still provide at least one new twist for each episode - be it a special or a variation.

Hopefully, though, I can make a real guide for it later.

Re: How I'd do Series 3 - with the benefit of no budget limit!

Starting the planning and I'd probably go for a second block episode to be shown first - simply to show that new twists are on their way, then most old/new eps near the beginning purely to get rid of any feel of overuse later on - and hopefully increase the chances at a fourth series!

Also think I'd have Block 2 with Now You See me and Block 3 with Skittles now - makes more sense, shows more attention to budget, and gives Now You See Me a little more of a presence right off the bat.

So here are my episode orderings!

Episode 1:
Block 2
Brown Nosers
Skipping Stones - Eyepatch
New Now You See Me
Slip Way
New Extinction
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 2:
Block 1
Slippery Wall - Balls
Mud Ball - Hose
Honeycomb Maze
Skipping Stones
New Wipe Out
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 3:
Block 1
Slippery Wall - No ropes, wider mud pit
Honeycomb Maze - Some locked doors
New Wipe Out
Mud Ball - Eyepatch
Skipping Stones
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 4:
Block 3
Rice Bowl Down Hill - with those deadly rocks for this whole block
New Skittles
New Mushroom Trip
Honeycomb Maze
New Wipe Out - addition of the tunnel, which is permanent block-wise
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 5
Block 1
Slippery Wall - Balls, wider mud pit
Skipping Stones
Honeycomb Maze
New Wipe Out
Mud Ball - in the dark
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 6 - Couples
Block 2
Brown Nosers - I'd add the idea of colored balls for this week only and couples need to grab the same colors to go thru
Skipping Stones - One makes it, both go thru
Now You See Me - both make it to move on
Extinction - animals walking together, both make it to go thru
Slip Way - one makes it, both go through
Mushroom Trip - one makes it, both go thru
Final Fall - couples jump holding hands
Show Down

Episode 7
Block 1 - trying to ware these down is a bast*rd!
Slippery Wall - Balls, no ropes - hardest version really
Wipe Out
Mud Ball - Hose again
Skipping Stones
Honeycomb Maze
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 8
Block 3
Honeycomb Maze - Ball pickup twist
Skittles
Mushroom Trip
Wipe Out
Rice Bowl Down Hill
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 9
Block 2
Brown Nosers
Skipping Stones - Tennis Ball Carry
Mushroom Trip
Now You See Me - though dressed as Skittles instead!
Extinction
Slip Way - perhaps film at night as a simple twist
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 10
Block 3
Skittles
Mushroom Trip
Honeycomb Maze - Some locked doors
Rice Bowl Down Hill
Wipe Out - perhaps reusing the nighttime twist to shake things up a bit to prevent the series dragging on!
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 11
Block 1 - last one of these
Slippery Wall - no twists, have it in its purest form for the last appearance
Honeycomb Maze
Skipping Stones
Mud Ball - Small balls
Wipe Out
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 12
Block 2 - I'm going with the tennis ball SP idea - so every obstacle has a spherical twist!
Brown Nosers - maybe a few less balls and make the story for that be that Takeshi had his minions remove some balls for the other games!
Now You See Me - tennis balls rolled down at random intervals
Skipping Stones - Tennis ball carry
Extinction - throw tennis balls along with the volleyballs shot from the cannon!
Slip Way - hold a ball thru your journey
Mushroom Trip - hold a ball while gripping onto the mushroom
Final Fall - tennis balls that contestants pick from a box that essentially tell them the hole they'll be sacrificed to!
Show Down - perhaps arm everyone with two tennis balls each to throw - though that could be dangerous with the mopeds speeding about!

Episode 13
Block 3
Wipe Out
Honeycomb Maze - Eyepatch
Mushroom Trip
Skittles
Rice Bowl Down Hill - again would use the dark twist to provide a minimal change to the game
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 14
Block 2
Brown Nosers
Skipping Stones - Eyepatch
Now You See Me
Extinction
Slip Way
Mushroom Trip
Final Fall
Show Down

Episode 15 - Brits in Indonesia. Maybe only 50 players if the budget only allows that amount, but have some fun with the idea. I'm sure they could cram the filming process all into the daytime hours to mock our stereotype of going to bed early - which I defo do not adhere to!
Block 3
Mushroom Trip
Honeycomb Maze
Wipe Out
Rice Bowl Down Hill
Now You See Me - with the counting in English for our Brits
Final Fall
Show Down

So, there you have it on my ideas for series three. Feel free to post your own ideas or feedback on mine here, though I doubt they will be reading this! emoticon

Re: How I'd do Series 3 - with the benefit of no budget limit!

I was finally able to read the majority of this last night.

Can you become an Indonesian TV producer? emoticon

Your variations (and use of simple twists like the dark) all sound really good, and I emoticon the tennis-ball ep emoticon

Couples was a special done a COUPLE ( emoticon ) of times in Japan, but if they did that I'd really want a parent & kids week as well!
Would make sense as kids seem to be their main audience. Brits in Indonesia would have to be English-speaking countries in Indonesia, so I could play emoticon

I like Brown Nosers too - probably could use the current Slippery Wall barrier, but maybe cut the height of each side in half and just build them a bit steeper, moving the climbing side further forward, so that the final, smaller mud-pit could stay as it is, while making room for the new pit at the top. That sounds like fun emoticon

I'd just say that I wish they'd do this without the blocks and just have different sets of games each week, but if we got anywhere near the ingenuity you've provided here, I'll be thrilled emoticon

Don't you just love American humour? emoticon

I like the thought of a budget friendly renovation, Messup - so essentially using Slippery Wall's parts to build the bulk segment of Brown Nosers.

I'm thinking now of an adjustable wall - where the pieces could easily be swapped (and maybe the walls could cover the central mud pit when filming Slippery Wall) back and forth so you get different starting games in the same block - hopefully also satisfying your complaint about only having three sets of challenges per season!

Or perhaps just have a "Slippery Wall 2.0" which does feature the mud pit, but without having to grab any colored balls. Also though you could call both versions Brown Nosers and have the ball grabbing from the pit as a variation for about half of the episodes. That way it would seem a little upgraded - would probably be in my series four plans. On top of that, probably one completely different starting game really - I may have to do a bit of research on the main site now!

I think you've done at least ten times more planning here than any producer at TCIndonesia ever has emoticon

Brown Nosers would definitely be good as a twist, too.

And I'd suggest Match Maker (most likely candidate) and Bite the Bun (not insanely difficult, if they only use buns) to be alternative starting games.

I've been hoping so much for a new series that if I see a trailer with the same old crap, it'll be pretty crushing emoticon

Can’t quite recall what actor said it, but I remember during a Charlie Brooker interview hearing him say that people who are big fans of something are preparing to be let down. Probably true enough, but won’t keep mye from being a keshi head emoticon

With no budget limit I'd build all the games used on TC Japan (apart from Ro-Jim-Bo).
