Added Quick Reply

Hey everyone!

Today we officially released the "quick reply" box to be used to respond to messages. The goal here is to allow people to spend less time replying (not having to load the response page etc.).

To some people, this is probably the most efficient and convenient system, but some of us may disagree emoticon

Some drawbacks I've found with Quick Reply are:

-The title of your response is simply replaced by "Re:" (you'll probably see the titles for my posts manually added back in because I prefer having that).
-The box of smilies doesn't show-up (so you have to remember the code for each one, or just not use them).
-I've occasionally had times where several quick reply posts of the past become really badly-formatted (no idea why, but they do emoticon ).

Okay, I hope Dan doesn't kill me for saying all this, but I'm including it for informational purposes AND to explain several workarounds, if you so desire! Here you go:

-Click the "reply" link that appears under usernames (or avatars, if a user has one) to the left of each post.
-Click "Preview" at the bottom-right of the quick reply to be redirected to the old page
-(Probably least-efficiently) Add "pleasedo=followup" to the end of each topic link to be taken to its respective reply box.

If you have any feedback or ideas, it certainly can't hurt to add them here emoticon

We ARE planning on adding back the "Post Reply" button that links to the old box as always, but I accidentally screwed that up the other day emoticon emoticon

Re: Added Quick Reply

Okay, finally got it! We're still working-on (hopefully) getting the buttons above the QR centered now, as it annoys us both (only because Dan pointed it out to me, though emoticon) to see them offset to the left side like that!

Also, I feel I was a bit harsh on the QR yesterday, and I now feel bad for it emoticon

Soo I'll list some positives:

-It cuts-down the time it takes to post a message by about ten seconds
-It might sway people who are nervous to post to join-in with the forum.. emoticon
-It's honestly a cool, efficient new feature and gives our users choices.

Better? emoticon Sorry, Quick Reply, I was just stressed-out, you know I really love you!

*wonders why everyone is backing away quickly* emoticon
