Was it a Good Idea?

Pardon my nondescript clickbaity title (emoticon), but this is simply a topic to discuss your thoughts on the "modernization period" we saw on the original show.

What I mean is time around episode 100 where we saw more complex games, with mechanics, added such as The Gauntlet and Ball Cupping. Also redoing/expanding Honeycomb Maze and doing-away with some of the iconic games.

I think I preferred the original style, with simpler, more natural seeming games like Dragon Lake and Slip Way and more of a commitment to following the storyline, (whereas playing Match Maker in front of the castle completely took the "real" feeling away) overall.

But then again, the show might've began to get stale for some people right around that point had they not given it a bit of a renovation, so I understand their motive to change it up. Plus, I'm obviously glad we got the new games (heck, I love Wipe Out and The Gauntlet)!

So, I'd say the changing was justified and likely had a positive impact on the show's success. So, I'll vote "yes" to that.

Thoughts?

AS weird as it is to say, I don't think it really mattered. The goal was to create a fun comedy game show. If it didn't follow the tone narrative then they made up for it in the comedy aspect. I think the whole "troops making their way to a castle to conquer it" story-line is out the window the first time they play Indestruct-a-ball

Well, episodes 100 to 133 are easily the best episodes in the series. The games are better and the sketches are funnier.

I guess it was a pretty obvious question. Better to have more games than less!

Although I always wished there was some more time before the renovation. And then more time after it, before the show ended, as well emoticon

It's not the fact there's more games (they did stop playing quite a few,) it's that the episodes are just better made.

No, I just mean a positive of the renovation is getting to see different types of games they didn't have before.

And yeah I agree the general quality of most eps improved. Unlike any of the other remakes ever emoticon

That is true - I hope that either Saudi Arabia or India can buck the usual trend and keep things going strong for years!.. Maybe I should first just hope that either one actually happens at all emoticon

Both Gaunlet and Ball Cupping (probably the biggest innuendo in the show) were two of my favourite games, so I definitely say yes. I think it's refreshing. I like the simpler games, but it's fun to throw a few challenging ones into the mix. Even the simple games like Dragon Lake seem very difficult to master.
