Re: Takeshi's Castle Thailand WILL air in the Uk...

No, they just posted a "The funniest TC screenshots of all time" article on their website:
[url][sign in to see URL]

And according to the caption they don't know how the showdown works... "Finale. Does anyone understand the aim of the game", e.g. they don't get how the final game works and what it is all about... which is a bit sad, because it's the very basic story of the show.

I don't think it will end anytime soon. They acquired the worldwide rights to the show and want to show it on their local channels.. there is no way that they will stop producing more episodes. Pretty sure they will try to get their investment back.

Oh, I took "finale" to mean final episode without using context-clues emoticon

As much as it bugs me, I do have to remember Craig often said he didn't know what was happening either. Admittedly, he never seemed to do that with the Show Down, which is the most important game though.

EDIT: Okay, I see that is really bad emoticon The lack of understanding and reference to the original mixed with this joke of "feel bad for the poor souls competing on this show." I don't feel bad for them at all, I'd be having the time of my life trying-out the games!

Episode 1 of the show gained at attractive 273,000 viewers (main & +1 combined), the 3rd most watched programme on Comedy Central that week. I bet the next one won't even be in the top 10.

These were the days before you could easily research the show on the internet, but I think Challenge did pretty well in their first series considering (although missing out on winners and not knowing who Takeshi was has irritated me since!).

Times have now moved on, and Comedy Central have no excuses!, especially calling Spud "The Cat Poop" and anything else they've done emoticon emoticon

Re: Takeshi's Castle Thailand WILL air in the Uk...

Yeah, Craig made mistakes. Some less dramatic (always having 100 contestants with first 85 or so making it to the next round) to more dramatic ones (no winners this time).

But there are two differences between the two shows:

1. The show was new. There weren't many people who've seen Takeshi's Castle before it premiered on Challenge. Maybe some clips. So people discovered the show with Craig Charles.

Now, they don't have to discover the show anymore. They know the show. They (and Craig) know it better than they did during the first season of the Challenge show. And thus, they have certain expectations. Which is why the Cat Poo is not working. That was the moment where Takeshi's Castle Thailand did not just copy the original one, but connected with the original one. As I said before: for us, it was the original Spud.

2. Craig's mistakes are genuine. If he said something wrong, it's because he didn't know better and had to work with what was given to him. But he really was interested in the show, interested in making sense of it and respecting the show, really. All the comedy and all the humour were coming from the show itself. No need for pseudo-commentary on pop culture. His comments followed the show as he watched it.

3. Even though he didn't spot all winners, he knew what the show was about: Beating Takeshi.

And that's what makes it really sad. With Craig, a fan of the show was watching it. Now there is a Channel that bought the rights to Takeshi's Castle Thailand solely based on the fact that the original show was hugely popular around the world. They couldn't care less about the show itself, as proven by their and Ross' commentary on the show.

Understood to some extent but Craig wasn't afraid to tell a lie in some cases. For example: saying that Roller Derby was cut from a parents & kids episode because a ton of kids got hurt and all that. Knowing how gullible I can be, that may be only me who took it seriously though emoticon

But I agree that Craig allowed the source itself to be funny rather than trying to make it funny. Shame Comedy Central didn't consider that beforehand emoticon

Yes, that’d only be you. Did you think that they were really presented with missing teeth and a left spud upon beating Takeshi too? emoticon
That’s not ‘lying’, it’s joking!

I’ll take Craig’s stories of people breaking body parts over “onesie direction”anyday, ffs.

But I'm saying that he did know better, just decided to make it up anyway (not that I'm complaining!).

To be fair, I was 12 so I took stuff a bit more literally, probably emoticon

I think everyone agrees that the new version sucks so it's alright if we disagree on the details emoticon

It's just so choppy and ohlookathatthatssofunnyhaha, that it looks like they're trying too hard. Some 'jokes' are so forced, it's painful. I made that mistake before with trying to pepper references to Christmas all over an Unseen commentary just because I'd taken so long with it that it was December by the time I was finished, and I thought it was clever at the time, but now I regret it. This stilted script will sound the same after a little while. Jonathan should have been given a bit more room to make stuff up like Craig, and it would improve massively, and I could look past the lame game naming. Stepping Stone?
Come on. That makes it look like this was made by someone who'd never seen the show and just knew it was a crazy foreign gameshow, instead of, say, a magazine asking a fan for an insight. Honeycomb is a particularly bad offender. People who remember Challenge calling it Honeycomb Maze called it such when the promotional maze was set up in London, like the guy from Metro I've seen do it.

I've just seen the tweet from Oct 26 by Jonnie.

Not their last six. They're a bit... suspect. emoticon

To quote me in an Unseen episode intro: "I'm Not R.J. O'Connell - unfortunately says you - and this... is not... Takeshi's Castle Thailand."

Stepping Stone is by far the worst.

They're all annoying and unnecessary though. At least they're plenty more new games to look forward to like Master the Character, Breakfast and Cross the Deadly Dominoes emoticon
