Re: 15 Years on Challenge

They're not bothered about Takeshi anymore. And to be fair, after 15 years of the same old episodes that's not surprising!

Would probably still bring in decent ratings for a day, but I guess you're right.

Possibly it could be that perhaps it might conceivably be slightly less popular barely, perchance. Maybe.

I am not quite sure. I find it hugely conjunctions. It is double negatives maybe.

Challenge is a low budget channel that the company doesn't really care about, which is why no anniversaries are ever marked.

To be honest, with TCT launching on Comedy Central, I wouldn't have put on a special either. Anyone reporting on it would have added that there is a new version on CC.

The smarter way would have been to do it the other way round. Promoting the original TC after TCT has been launched and aired on CC.

But yeah, since that isn't really popular, they don't have to bother anyway. Not that they do bother either way..

That said: A special like a day marking the anniversary wouldn't be a bad idea in general. In fact, I think for a channel like Challenge, it's best to focus on events. Have a Takeshi's Castle Day once a year and try to make that go viral. People might not watch it daily anymore, but they might tune in for one day to remember the good old days. It certainly makes it more special than daily airings (which they can still do and advertise on Takeshi Day).

They could build on it and doing some sort of fan service. Have people vote for their favourite games and characters and compile new shows based on these rankings. Let Craig do new commentary, kinda like audio commentary on DVDs and Blu-rays. Maybe create some sort of documentary on the show, maybe even Takeshi and his life (it's not 100% what Challenge would air on a regular day but as part of the special event: Why not?). Try to get Tani again and let him host a marathon of old episodes.

Say what you want about Rebooted, but the one thing they did right was to create interest in Rebooted. And having Tani for the A-Z was amazing and certainly not that expensive. (Problem was just that this was the only fan service they did)

If you want to put more effort into it, do what Comedy Central did or what Spike did ages ago: give people the chance to play the games. Maybe even work with Indonesia or Vietnam and film it there if you don't want to build your own version. You can call it a secret location. Record some Craig bits from there and air them between episodes.

With all those little tricks you can freshen up the 15 year old show.. and if you do it well, some will stick around to tune in to the regular broadcasts.

If think this would work with a lot of shows. There are so many Facebook pages and websites that live on "do you remember...", "this is how the cast of X looks today", "tag a friend that should take part in TC" content. I'm sure you can turn this viral content into a viral TV show.

But it only works if you do fan service. It has to be exactly the same thing that you got in the past. Nobody would enjoy a Scoobo-Doo event if you hired a Dalmatian as a real-life Scoobo-Doo to freshen things up.
