15 Years on Challenge

I've only realised keshi started 15 Years ago in the UK this [sign in to see URL] was only starting secondary school then!!

Was anyone there right from the start? My memories are fuzzy but I believe it started in the afternoon which was a strange time!

Re: 15 Years on Challenge

Well, I got Sky in 2002, but I'm sure it wasn't long after Takeshi started airing in the UK. I was still in primary school at the time, and I can only vaguely remember Takeshi being one of the first shows I ever saw on Challenge.

I feel that I got into watching the channel at the right time, as there was such a great variety of shows back then (as I've said before on these forums). I know I'm going a little bit off-topic, but I think we can all agree that Challenge (in its current state) isn't the channel that it once was.

Anyway, back to Takeshi. Even though I stopped watching the show ages ago, I still have good memories (even when I watched the countless re-runs over the years). What is very clear is how fun it was (and still is, for a show that originally aired in Japan back in the 80's), and it didn't take itself seriously.

Due to what was the very unexpected success of Takeshi on Challenge, we got to see two other great shows from the land of the rising sun: Ninja and Banzuke. There is something I've wondered for years: why has there not been any more shows from Japan on the channel? Maybe the audience isn't there for that sort of thing these days?

Regardless, Takeshi will still be remembered for many years to come as what was probably the best show to have ever aired in the history of Challenge.

Banzuke dodnt do great ratings-wise so that was the end of Challenge buying Japanese shows.

Yep, Takeshi first aired weekend afternoons, then soon moved to new episodes daily in the evenings as they quickly realised how populal was.

The beginning of next year will mark 15 years since at first watched it!

Bad excuse for not buying any more Japanese shows if one doesn't do well in the ratings...!

Another thing about TC on [sign in to see URL] believe it's the only show Challenge still airs today that was made/edited by them. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Whoa, this is huge!

Doubt they're giving it any attention? emoticon

They should definitely buy Sports Bakka or something.

They hardly did a thing to celebrate 20 years as a channel so I don't think poor Takeshi's Castle stands a chance!

I do not think it was too popular probably. That is the reason they eliminated it after a few amount of episodes.

They did not do anything to mark the occasion? Is that good? I find the situation hugely lousy.

What??! I can see not mentioning Takeshi's 15th anniversary, but not putting any focus on the channels' 20th? emoticon Yeah... they probably don't even know about Keshi's anniversary emoticon

Unless you constitute 133 as a few, I think you're talking about TCVietnam emoticon

Challenge is a low budget channel that the company doesn't really care about, which is why no anniversaries are ever marked.

Just play TC all day and stick a cheap ad explaining that it's the anniversary. Couldn't be worse than the original hop-scotch ad, I'd hope emoticon
