He was one of the most famous people in the UK for sure. Over the last 50-odd years. I doubt there's anyone in the country (other than young kids, natch) who didn't know who he was.

That's the amazing thing, he's one of the few who managed to almost avert that. Pretty much only toddlers don't know. Even if they don't know his name, kids from about 6 or 7 up would recognize him as 'the old guy from Strictly', Len Goodman being the 'other old guy', of course. He even mentioned that in interviews sometimes. Which is cool in its own way.

Ironic considering he was the host of Price Is Right in the UK!

The story I heard, and I believe it is true, is that he actually brought the idea back to the UK after seeing how successful the US version was.

He didn't bring it over originally, but I was his idea to bring it back in the 90s after seeing the show in America.

Card Sharks/Play Your Cards Right was the format he brought over himself. But then he saw Family Fued and wanted that instead, but Bob Monkhouse had already claimed it himself. Apparently Bruce asked to swap shows, but Bob didn't want to, and so history was made!

Ah that makes sense. I think he was in consideration to host the US version when CBS brought it back in 89.

Being a British game show host and trying to make it here is no easy feet. That being said I think that Vernon Kay and Bruce were really the only two that had a good shot at it.

I suspect Challenge (if Sky should put the effort in it) could commission a revival of Play Your Cards Right with Craig Charles as the host.

Personsally I don't see it.

..That could be because I've seen Craig mocking contestants on Takeshi's Castle too much, though emoticon

Well I do not know who he is. Well I am not British. I am American. I am from Miami. Well I find it obvious. It is sad though. Messup knows him o maybe probably.

I didn't realise he was the original host of You Bet. Apparently he left after 3 series because he didn't get the chance to have fun with the contestants. He didn't enjoy hosting Price Is Right for the same reason

I only vaguely remember him on You Bet. I've always had this picture of him introducing something on the show while standing next to a canal or something. Really random, but that has always stuck in my head.
