Sad to hear that. He never managed to make it big here in the States. He hosted only one game show over here, Bruce Forsyth's Hot Streak. I really liked it and lots of people in the Game Show fandom remember it fondly. The show failed due in large part to the fact that it was up against The Price Is Right. He was a good host and I will miss him.

Ironic considering he was the host of Price Is Right in the UK!

Best wishes to his friends, family, and fans

Re: Sir Bruce Forsyth

Brucey had a pretty incredible career. One of the greatest stars in the history of British television, no doubt about that.

Here's how I knew about today's sad news:

I was looking through the listings on the EPG on my TV for tonight. Normally on BBC One at 7pm, there would be The One Show. After looking at what some of the channels were going to be showing, I noticed The One Show had been replaced by something about Bruce Forsyth. I thought "Hold on a minute...has he passed away?". When I did look at the news channels, I was like "Oh, I see".

Am I surprised by the news of his passing? Not entirely, but it did feel a little bit unexpected. He will definitely be remembered for many years to come, that's for sure.

The story I heard, and I believe it is true, is that he actually brought the idea back to the UK after seeing how successful the US version was.

Much missed, Bruce. What a life, and what connections, too if you've ever seen his episode of Who Do You Think You Are?. I rmember local media going nuts about him filming part of that in Belfast's Botanical Gardens. His ancestor gave his name to the forsythia. Who knew? Always seemed too coincidental.

Few of us here haven't seen at least one of his shows. Understandably, as a stage performer, he felt a little miffed that he was viewed more as a game show host than a variety performer, but his people skills made that inevitable. I'm annoyed that this is sometimes quoted out of context as him saying he resented his game show years, which is nonsense.

As a fan of game shows, I much preferred those to things like Strictly, which I've never liked. Funnily enough, that's also been subject to misquoting. He expected to do The Generation Game with celebs, but it was a bog standard competitive reality show with all the unreasonable pressure and the bad blood between fans of this celeb and that celeb, and the panto booing of constructive criticism and whooping at butt kissing praise that those shows entail, which he disliked, because we're all winners in the end, aren't we?

For a certain generation Price is Right in the UK means Leslie Crowther (and William G. Stewart's blinding pink jacket, in a behind the scenes feature, as I recall) , but as a '90s kid, it means Brucie hosting, with Peter Dickson (post UTV, pre X Factor) as voice over man, stupidly expensive and sometimes just stupid prizes now that there was no winnings cap (the most expensive show around, until Who Wants to be a Millionaire? came along and sort of stole it's reason to exist) and the '90s spec American theme tune.

Golf is another thing I'll remember him for, particularly claiming the putt that won the second All*Star Cup for Europe, earning him the nickname
The Golf-father from hosts/format co-creators Ant and Dec.

No-one's pointed out he's been in a Disney film, though. That'll surprise some people. Bedknobs and Broomsticks, in case you didn't know. It was a million pound question in the first Millionaire board game. I got it right, obviously.

What a man, and what a loss. Just be grateful he wasn't one of 2016's victims, in a way.

And to sign off, "Remember, no matter what happens, Bruce's Price is always Right!"

He was one of the most famous people in the UK for sure. Over the last 50-odd years. I doubt there's anyone in the country (other than young kids, natch) who didn't know who he was.

The last time I saw him on anything was on Paul O'Grady a few years ago, where he was still dancing around. On a giant piano. Not quite sure why.

Strictly isn't my thing, so the last show I saw him host proper was Play Your Cards Right. Of course I grew up watching that, Price is Right and repeats of his Generation Game... *I'll just make a note of that*

He didn't bring it over originally, but I was his idea to bring it back in the 90s after seeing the show in America.

Card Sharks/Play Your Cards Right was the format he brought over himself. But then he saw Family Fued and wanted that instead, but Bob Monkhouse had already claimed it himself. Apparently Bruce asked to swap shows, but Bob didn't want to, and so history was made!

I suspect Challenge (if Sky should put the effort in it) could commission a revival of Play Your Cards Right with Craig Charles as the host.
