Season 3, Episode 2

"Qualifying Round"

Location: Venice Beach, California

This episode was the second of three qualifying shows. Hundreds of competitors would show up to try to tackle a six-obstacle qualifying course with only the top thirty performances moving forward. This means that even competitors who clear the course aren't safe unless they put up a strong finishing-time.

Obstacles:

Quad Steps (four slanted steps on alternating sides of the pool leading to a sloped landing platform)
Log Grip (a large, lubricated log that slides down a track with two drops; contestants must hang from it and use the small circular indents on the sides of the log as grips)
Bridge of Blades (a bridge that tilts on an axis which ninjas must run across, consisting of four panels which stick off the axis on both sides, where if the first panel if horizontal, the second and fourth panels are vertical)
Jump Hang (jump from a mini-tramp to reach a far-away inverted cargo net which can either be climbed over and rolled down or gone under)
Jumping Bars (you must use a mini-tramp to reach the first of a set of four bars, then lache or swing from bar to bar to reach the platform)
Warped Wall (run up a 14-foot long curved track, grab a ledge on the top and climb up)

Season 3, Episode 4

"Semi-Finals"

Location: Venice Beach, California

This episode was the semi-finals episode. The top thirty now have to take on an extended course, featuring the first six obstacles, and three additional obstacles afterward with only the top fifteen performances moving forward. This means that even competitors who clear the course aren't necessarily safe unless they put up a strong finishing-time.

Jumping Bars (you must use a mini-tramp to reach the first of a set of three bars, then lache or swing from bar to bar to reach the platform)
Warped Wall (run up a 14-foot long curved track, grab a ledge on the top and climb up)
Salmon Ladder (jump from a mini-tramp up and across to a bar which rests on two angled rungs and kip yourself, and the bar, upward from set of rungs to set of rungs at least three times to complete the obstacle)
Unstable Bridge (from the bar of the Salmon Ladder, lache to or reach for a hanging board, suspended by two ropes on each end, then work your way across this board and lache to a second board which only has one rope in the middle on each end and will tilt to the right or the left freely, work along this board without causing it to tip and dismount to the platform)
Cargo Climb (climb up a long vertical cargo-net to reach a high platform and hit the buzzer)

Original Airdate: August 7th, 2011

Best Semi-Finals Time: Ryan Stratis's clear at 3:22.21

Cut-off: Alan Connealy's Salmon Ladder fail, arriving there at 45.20

Season 3, Episode 6

"Boot Camp"

Location: California Mountains

This episode was the second of four episodes where the competitors faced Ninja bootcamp. At the beginning of camp, the fifteen ninjas participants are split into three teams of five. The teams will face two challenges per episode: The Pressure Challenge and the Team Relay. In the Pressure Challenge, each team chooses one member to face a ninja-related challenge. The two participants who do best win the challenge and their whole team gets time to practice on ninja obstacles for the Team Relay. The member who does the worst loses for their team and causes their team to face a grueling punishment and lose training-time. In the team relay, teams have each of their members take a turn running through a course made up of several obstacles. If a member falls from an obstacle, a big penalty will be tacked-on to their time. If a team does not have all five members, some people will be forced to run multiple times. Often, the ninjas will have to carry or drag heavy objects between each obstacle. At the end, the team with the longest overall time on the course will have to nominate two of it's members for the Heavenly Ropes. The Heavenly Ropes were two side-by-side 32-foot ropes. Competitors would have to race up the ropes and ring the bell at the top to stay in the game. The player to ring last is eliminated and has their ninja ID burned.

Pressure Challenge:

Hang Move (four ropes are hanging between two platforms, each rope having a cylinder on the bottom to use as a foothold; ninjas must use these chains to cross the gap between platforms in the fastest time possible, while also being weighted-down by a 40-pound backpack)

Punishment:

The losing team had to find 40 tires scattered around the bootcamp area and load them into a wagon, which will have to be dragged back to the training-ground.

Team Relay:

Roulette Cylinder (competitors must roll a large wooden cylinder along a track with two drops, by holding onto metal rods protruding from the cylinder and moving from one to the next to roll the cylinder)

Balance Tank (competitors must climb onto a platform before stepping onto a wooden cylinder which they will balance on top of as it rolls down a long, sloped track, before jumping off of it to the landing platform)

The competitors must each roll a tire, each of different sizes and weights, to each obstacle.

Heavenly Ropes Elimination: Chris Wilczewski

Competitors would have to race up the ropes and ring the bell at the top to stay in the game. The player to ring last is eliminated and has their ninja ID burned.

Pressure Challenge:

Bungee Rope Climb (nine ropes are hanging off from a platform, getting progressively shorter, and hanging from an apparatus that cause the ropes to bounce and swing even more; competitors must swing back and forth across these ropes, ringing as many bells as they can before they fall to the ground, with five bells in total hanging with the ropes)

Punishment:

The losing team had to untie a 400-pound rope that was wrapped around the limbs and trunk of a tree and carry it back to the training-ground.

Team Relay:

Double Salmon Ladder (grab a bar resting on a pair of angled rungs and kip yourself, and the bar, up four sets of rungs before turning your body around in order to swing the bar across to a second ladder and kip up to the top of this ladder, as done on the first)

Warped Wall (run up a 17-foot long curved track, with a short, curved run-up)

The competitors must each carry a rope, each of different lengths and weights, to each obstacle.

Season 4, Episode 1

"Southwest Qualifying Round Part 1"

Location: Venice Beach, California

This episode was the first of two parts of the qualifying-round for ninjas competing within the Southwest regional. About 100 competitors would show up to try to tackle a six-obstacle qualifying course with only the top thirty performances moving forward. This means that even competitors who clear the course aren't safe unless they put up a strong finishing-time.

Obstacles:

Quad Steps (five slanted steps on alternating sides of the pool leading to a sloped landing platform)
Log Grip (a large log that slides down a track with two drops; contestants must hang from it and use the small circular indents on the sides of the log as grips)
Spinning Log (a long cylinder which connects the starting and landing platforms and rotates on an axis, which competitors must balance or crawl across to make it to the other side)
Jump Hang (jump from a mini-tramp to reach a far-away inverted cargo net which can either be climbed over and rolled down or gone under)
Devil Steps (a set of rectangular steps which contestants must use by gripping onto the sides and climbing up underneath them to complete the obstacle; the first five steps lead up to a larger step, which competitors must navigate to reach four more upward steps, then a crossing transition to the first step leading downward on the opposite side and eight more downward steps to reach the landing-platform)
Warped Wall (run up a 14-foot long curved track, grab a ledge on the top and climb up)
