Re: The Wall

Okay last night's team has to be one of my favorites yet emoticon TMI, TMI, TMI, TMI about using salt on their food and then saying "People think we're really healthy" was great and then when Chris says that all of the answer choices have beautiful women and beautiful beaches and Paris says "Okay, but focus on the question" emoticon Lots of other funny things too. I think I just liked how Paris was talking him through everything and trying to stop him going off-track emoticon

The guy was novel. The woman was annoying. She yelled too much. She was like your teacher. We disagree on these matters. I find it funny.

The wall is a wonderful lovely piece of architecture. The concept is novel. The program is lousy.

I am less impressed.

It's come back for the new year and we've already gotten six new ones (and another tomorrow)! emoticon Strangely still billed as its second season, though.

It always surprises me when American game shows get more than one season. It feels as if nothing much lasts beyond one year over there emoticon

Well they still have 25 more episodes from last March to air, and seeing as they likely gave away millions between those, I'm guessing they'll at least show all of them!

Isn't there a rule that you only get the money when the show has indeed aired on TV? I think I read something like that before.

Oh yeah - that is true. Would really suck for that to happen but I guess that risk is always run when you participate on a show. Does that mean that even if they plan on airing your episode, they wait until it airs to give out money just to be safe? emoticon

Re: The Wall

They actually wait till the broadcast till they pay you. I think you have to even longer, 30 to 60 days after the broadcast or so. Plus: Some shows reserve the right to pay you in annual installments.

I know that's the case for the bigger prices on Millionaire and I'm sure it's true for The Wall, too.

Also something important to note: Many shows have insurance so that they won't have to pay bigger cash prizes themselves. I think all the Millionaires around the world did that. Germany did, but they don't have insurance anymore. The show makes enough money from advertising and audition fees, so the channel can afford to pay the million.

Not sure if that's the case for The Wall though. Insurance companies usually want you to limit the chance of winning the top prize. So on Millionaire you have to answer really challenging questions. On Wheel of Fortune you have to hit a mini space, win the round, never hit bankrupt, advance to the bonus round, hit the million dollar envelope and then solve the puzzle.

But on The Wall, there were quite a few people who won more than million, many won more than half a million. I'm not sure if an insurance company wants to pay for that (unless you pay them a high insurance fee)

Yeah, I'd guess they do give a certain amount of money each year, too, especially seeing how much more money is given-away on it than on any other gameshow! I feel like NBC might simply hand-out the money themselves though, because, as you said, the possibility of having to give away $12 million might scare most companies off. Although no one has won close to $2 million yet so I don't expect to ever see a team win even $3 million, as a team has to get extremely lucky drops, many correct answers and to tear-up the contract at the end to win that much.

They probably can't.

Seems it's taken another break from airing now anyway emoticon
