KHTV: The Pilot Project
I's like to start up a new YouTube channel - one that has original content and not based purely on copyrighted TV shows - but I'm not quite sure exactly what it should be. I have ideas, but they all involve either too much time investment, needing other people, or things that just aren't really possible for me to achieve at the moment.
All these things are the issues you face when working alone, so how about collaborating with other people? That has given me an idea...
The Pilot Project
Do you have an idea for a show we could produce for YouTube? There are no restrictions on what type of show it should be, but there are some rules:
- The show mustn't be based purely on copyrighted content. So no "voiceover this TV show". As we know YouTube takes down most uploads of television programmes, and I want to produce something this isn't in danger of being removed. Short clips are okay, if you're thinking about some kind of clip show for example, as long as they are modified enough and feature some kind of new original content.
- It must be feasible to produce ourselves, at home. As much as I'd love to go out and film, or use some kind of studio or build props, time and money mean that's not gonna happen, so no crazy ideas please! This has to be a homemade thing. Homemade, but still well produced.
- Something that will appeal to more than just a small group of people. Yep we love Takeshi's Castle here, but, for example, a TC podcast isn't going to attract many people. We need something that will hopefully entertain a more general audience.
- You will be happy to work on your show yourself, along with me and anyone else that might want to help out. I don't mean you must be the face or voice of the show (although you can if you want!), but coming up with ideas, writing, designing or whatever may be involved. This project is about collaboration to make it more fun, come up with more ideas, and make it less work for just one person alone.
Other than that, it's up to you!
I'm hoping we might be able to come up with a few ideas, which we can make pilots of, and then maybe take the best and work on them further, eventually finding the best format we can.
Whether or not this will actually go anywhere I don't know But that depends on who wants to take part and what kind of ideas are put forward. Sooo, over to everyone else...

Re: KHTV: The Pilot Project
First thought:
Second thought:
:omg
Yep, I'm really excited, but really wondering what the heck I'm gonna be able to do
A couple years back I made The Surprise Show, which is essentially a sitcom-type thing but my acting was bad and no one wanted to work on it Then came Messup, but once again my sister's weren't interested in making that as a show sadly Then I made two of my own Takeshis episode, but those took even longer and my sisters didn't like making them.
So
Reviews could be interesting as in reviewing and discussing different shows and we'll have no lack of material with Beasmaster, TCT, TCIndonesia, Ninja and Crystal Maze! But then we get back to my voice.
I'll be back and I'll think of something. I also like the idea of doing an MXC-style dub over something but I think you've already beat me to that

Re: KHTV: The Pilot Project
One of the ideas I have is dubbing stuff, but that needs a lot of good writing and footage that wouldn't be copyright-claimed. But it's definitely an idea.
I'd like a show to include some kind of game/challenge, but that's just my preference. Doesn't have to.
A review show could easily include games. I've always really wanted to make a proper radio(/podcast) show, and that would work, but ideally you need two hosts to bounce off each other and that's where my idea has always hit a wall. You need to get two people together at the same time - in person or over Skype - and possibly listen in yourself if you're producing it. That's tough, but something I've always wanted to try.
So yeah, keep going with the ideas

Re: KHTV: The Pilot Project
I'm trying to set up a media company to launch a online channel to be streamed live on YouTube with the output uploaded on YouTube.
The live show on my online channel would have debates, topical issues and would have new talent with me hosting the live show.
The live show it would go out on Tuesday and Wednesday when I am available. It would be broadcast live from empty site available near where I live.
My idea for you KHTV channel is to use a similar format to my idea channel.

Re: KHTV: The Pilot Project
Oh boy, blank. I couldn't come up with ideas. I work with someone handing something to me and then I riff on that. It's what someone like me often struggles with in school. I could analyze the hell out of source material in English Literature and ace it, but English Language? So called 'creative writing'? Worst GCSE, barely passed. So yeah, if you need me to do my usual blagging on a mic, then we'll talk. Good luck.

What types of legends? I'm really curious here.

I agree that a podcast would be cool and we should add games to it. But what type of games? We could have a competition between shows or something, but it's much more entertaining, when the players are doing a challenge not choosing their favorite show. So we'd have to get outside the box.
I'd like to do a BEGIRAGONS-type (but not the same stuff because we're original ) show, but we really need more group collaboration for that.
One day when Keshi Heads TV is an actual channel, we can show these as how we started

Re: KHTV: The Pilot Project
Now this sounds fun .
I've always liked the classic format of "Two people have to do some kind of task, but with a randomly assigned handicap. The person who does worst at the task then has to do a punishment game." Based on what I've seen on Saturday morning kids' TV back in the 80s and stuff like YH and Begiragons on youtube, the task itself can be pretty much anything simple and still be fun to watch . Seems like that might be something easy and cheap to make, and YH showed us how it can easily be included (or at least amusingly shoehorned in ) in a sort of discussion/magazine type show. As Dan said, there's always room for silly games, whatever the setting they're in .
I did have a kind of idea for something I'd like to make, but I don't know if it'd fit the format you're looking for: I kept a travel blog of my time in Japan (PM me if you want the link - it's a good cure for insomnia ), and I really enjoyed travel writing and that kind of thing, like showing good places to eat, random stuff to mooch around and find, etc. Would anyone be interested in seeing a short bit like that? As a couple of quick examples, I could film something on the shrines to the seven gods of good fortune, I once did a treasure hunt in Kansai and randomly received a sacred arrow that wards off evil spirits from a Shinto priest (I also have a magic rake, but that's from a different excursion), and I frequently happened across delicious but tiny restaurants hidden away under train tracks and behind buildings. That kind of stuff . I dunno if anyone would actually be interested in it, but I thought it might be worth a try, since there's been a lot of Japanese stuff on Keshi Heads over the years, so I wondered if a little Japan travel documentary might be a fun thing to include . If you think of shows like 世界の果てまで行ってQ, they usually stick in a travel bit along with a bunch of other stuff.
Also, there's always filming your own versions of stuff you love - youtube's full of people doing that kind of thing . I'm always happy to subtitle anything if you need it, too!

Thank you, we may do. If you want to chip in with suggestions when we've got some things to work with then please do.

I think that'd be for a bit of a niche audience, but it could be a part of something.

We can make games up based on whatever content is in the show, like host vs host. Whoever that may be.

I would love to do something like that but have no one to do that with for real myself. But if anyone else does, and would be happy to film, that's totally something we could work together on. Or maybe doing it via video calling? That might work..?
Potential Pilot #2

Yes! Definitely! If it's something you've always enjoyed than that makes it even better. We could always work some kind of game or challenge into it (Wherher part of the filmed footage or some kind of quiz for the audience). Get inspiration from Itte Q and make out own 'handmade' version! I'm sure we could come up with some sort of entertainment 'travel' format.
Infotainment! That's what YH called their show, and that fits for this idea...
Potential Pilot #3
So we've already got ourselves three different ideas to work with!
We've started well already
Now to develop them some more - or think up anything else - keep throwing ideas at these three formats or new ones!

Re: KHTV: The Pilot Project
Yay, I'm a potential pilot But Gra's sound really great and admittedly might have a wider scope and audience!
I suppose doing games would be good though seeing as this is OUR channel.
For my podcast, I'd think fifteen minutes to half an hour should be enough Maybe the first could be slightly longer if we have a bit of an introduction, but I don't know. If I'm still not able to find anyone willing to do it, then they're gonna have to be veeery quick The fact that it's pretty much record and air is one thing that's appealing as we test it out so we don't go to a lot of trouble for something that could flop
If we do a half-hour podcast we could probably do two to three show reviews and talks in that amount of time, which would be preferable to stretching out a single show for ages! If fifteen minutes, one show and rounding up what's recently happened on it, might suffice.
Potential Pilot #2 also seems promising as it's hard to really mess this up (unless you make me do it ). You just need two people with a bit of personality and it should work. As Gra said, taking a simple game and adding a simple twist to it really is enough to make it completely new.
I also like the travel idea! Infotainment (wow, Runboard counts that as a real word!) is a good way to go for these. I'm envisioning something close to a Clive James' visit to Japan here, and love it already
Three other things I came up with, and I'll be the first to say I'm not doing all of them: A gameshow that, at the same time, teaches people another language would be neat. Once again, I'd aim for infotainment with something like that. I think it'd be funny to pull pranks on people and film it, but I don't think most people would appreciate that so guess that has to be scrapped. The last idea is teaching parkour/rock-climbing/ninja training. The thing is, I'm not sure any of us know anyone who could do an effective job of demonstrating it
