Re: The Post About Today Topic

I'm back at school, and it's alright but still so lonely - especially compared to my old school.

I just really don't like the way they do things - they don't alternate the classes every-other-day like Florida did (here it's 90 days of each class - all lasting for one semester), they use so much online stuff that it feels forced and annoying and they insist on us learning through instruction rather than work.

I loved going to school in Florida (to do work and see friends), but here it's an eleven-hour slog through four endless "blocks" (can you just call them periods, please?) of listening to uninteresting teachers rambling, without doing much at all. Of course, after that I have two hours of Cross Country. Fun...

My team REALLY rubs me the wrong way. As an example, today they sprayed pepper-spray in the halls (doing pull-ups while choking on pepper-spray wasn't very fun) and got everyone in trouble for it. Plus they have this new thing where they purposefully wait until the run to go to the bathroom so that they can do so in the woods. And I'm not talking about peeing.. emoticon

Also, it's clear they have no clue how to act around kids - they're always cursing/being crass as we pass a toddler in their yard. And I'm just standing there like: emoticon Also happens in the middle of parks.

I miss the days of an easy 16-person mixed team. In Loveland it's 85 kids and boys and girls are separated. It feels a lot less like a team when there're that many people - and after two months I hardly know any names. For me, the more they make it about representing the school etc. the less team-spirit I feel. They make it so forced.

Well, I'll get to deal with them all a lot seeing as the coaches have told us that the Varsity runners have to stay together at all times. 'Tis gonna suck.

I don't know why everyone's so loud, but it fits in with all of the "school pride", I guess. I currently have a giant orange paw that says Loveland at the bottom in my room - and they want me to hang it on my bedroom window emoticon Nevermind that idea, it's going Mom a shelf in the storage-room! I wish the people here would realize that Loveland's clearly not the best thing ever - the last time our team won districts was literally in the 70s emoticon

All of this "no child left behind" junk is horrible too as the school has the exact opposite effect of that. I feel completely isolated from everyone else just because I'm bt always shouting at the top of my lungs. What can I say? I guess I can say "obnoxious".

I really miss traditional school, but what can you do, I suppose. I turn 18 in just over two years so I have a pipe-dream to buy an apartment that October/November and spend most of my Senior year back in Florida. It won't happen, but still fun to dream! I will move back there in a few years though.

Also everyone looks almost identical here. It's all middleclass, white-skinned, blonde-haired people. Except for me. My hair is brown emoticon It does seem really boring though, don't like repetition too much. It all repeats though. A bunch of tall trees with light green leaves everywhere. Sometimes Loveland makes me feel like I'm Jonas from 'The Giver' emoticon

On the brightside, after feeling really homesick today, I decided to PM some of my old friends on Instagram, and they all replied saying that they remembered qnd missed me etc emoticon It was very nice to hear that as, even hundreds of miles away, they're still my closest friends!

It sounds like you've been paired with a troop of monkeys, Messup. Crapping in the woods... really? emoticon

It always seemed like school life is vastly different in the US, so I can't say I relate to much of what you're saying. Who came up with "Loveland" anyway? It sounds like something from a cheesy fairy tale. Good luck with it all anyway. I think most people feel isolated at a new school for a while. You might fit in sooner than you think.

Today wasn't very eventful for me. I've been playing the re-release of Shenmue a bit. It's such a classic and it's a huge nostalgia trip to play through it again. In the late afternoon my dad helped me clear out my new garage. It was left in quite a state, so I'm glad it's relatively clean now. I waited in a queue for over a year for it and I'll use it for storage. Nothing expensive though. The chavs will do me a favour if they rob any of it. I've gotta declutter.

I bought a USB turntable today. Ah, the things I'm doing for Takeshi's Castle, lol. But this is nothing really, compared to the thousands I've spent on another fandom. Anyways, obviously I bought the turntable because most Takeshi music is on vinyls. With this I can rip them. It'll be my first turntable and my first vinyl. I own LaserDiscs and they're around the same size as a vinyl so I know what to expect.

ION, it's a budget one. So long as it serves the purpose though that's all I need. Apparently the USB transfer is supposed to be good despite the entry-level price.

You have to be careful with cheap turntables. A lot of them will just eat the grooves on a record. Tracking force is too heavy (should be about 1.5 to 2 grams. Cheapo turntables are like 6 to 7.)

You said it, I didn't emoticon

It does get annoying though - especially when you had a more mature (but still fun) team at your old home.

I reeeeally hate the place, and its name has unsurprisingly misled me emoticon Although I did have a sixth-grader chasing me around several months back (I was finishing ninth at the time), but that obviously (and relievingly!) doesn't qualify as a relationship at all emoticon

I did get 18:[sign in to see URL] on a 9 PM rac last night - it was a very interesting experience to run an XC course in the dark (and with rolling hills/mud-pits) - but that made my decent time all-the-more surprising! Hopefully I can keep it up. I've had one better 5k before (by two seconds), but that was fully paved and without hills so not very comparable, so I wasn't too sad not to beat my PR.

That's about the first (and probably last) fun team experience I've had in Ohio!

Cool that you got a turntable. I don't get how most of that stuff works, but I'm taking Computer Programming, so hopefully that'll help my understanding of technology in general emoticon

Thanks, but that doesn't matter much to me. I'd use it only once per vinyl to rip it. Not literally! (I hope it isn't that bad. emoticon)

It most likely will! I took it too. You'll probably study something like [sign in to see URL] at first, though I'm not so certain how the classes work these days. It's very flexible and much easier than, say, Java. A good introduction anyway.

That's cool! emoticon Although the first unit is just writing journal entries about our interests, so not exactly a fast start emoticon

I spent hours last night reading the posts without even realizing that time was going by.

Odd day.
