Scoring: Better
Presentation: Still awful
Level 4: FAR better (Better shot too)

Everything else is pretty much the same. The hosts are what really put me off the show unfortunately, I find them so irritating which is a shame because they've made some decent improvements to the core of the show, the new scoring is a big step forward and the final round is a vast improvement on the old version.

Re: Ultimate Beastmaster - Filmed on Abandoned Wipeout Set

Watched the first episode - far too long at nearly 70 minutes - it does seem many shows have lost the ability to edit lately. I was bored of the course watching it over and over again in one episode, never mind watching it over and over again across ten.

The changes were so minor they were barely noticeable, though most are an improvement - except the final. I preferred last years really, and same goes for the hosts too.

Really the only selling point for the show to me is where it's filmed - just spend most of it working out which bit of the Wipeout course the round is filmed on. Do find it odd they've disguised that so well pretty much throughout with the exception of the bridge from the final qualifier pool (halfway through Level 2) which is exactly the same as it was on Wipeout.

I really think Netflix would be better off tearing this course down and launching Wipeout for itself, and I think Wipeout actually would lend itself to on-demand viewing far more than a show like Ultimate Beastmaster does. At it's peak it's something you can binge on quite happily or just dip in and out of as you like.

Give Episode 2 a go, I've given it another episode and for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I enjoyed it more. Felt slightly faster paced and the hosts were toned down a little.

I watched the final episode today. I’ve not watched any of the others, I jut went straight to the last one as I figured it wasn’t pointless watching the rest as it’s alł the same!

It really is practically the same as before. I can’t remember the hosts from the first series, so whether these guys were better or worse I don’t know. Wonder why they changed them?

I struggled to sit through this one episode. I find it hard to imagine anyone watching the whole lot.

It needs some big changes for the next series. Mainly making each episode different and a lot faster paced.

The constant crowd noise sound effect throughout really irritated me for some reason.

Why skip to the final episode? That's actually the least exciting one because everyone's good at it...

So the course doesn't vary enough, but then again this was filmed before season 1 aired so hopefully they've taken that "give us different obstacles" criticism on board for next season, and I'm not gonna judge it too harsh based on the fact we knew it wasn't gonna vary week on week.

Now that I'm done with the season, I agree with the stage 1 criticism. It's basically all "how far can you jump" on every obstacle. They really need to completely change it for next season. Test their grip, jumping, balance, strength you know? Not just "can you jump really really far and then hang on?"

I watched the first season in Japanese so I can't really compare the new hosts to them as it's completely different. I do feel like they don't chant USA USA USA the whole time which is nice as in season 1 the only time we really saw the American hosts on the Japanese version was when they were screaming that over and over.

Season 2 despite not changing, is still the best stage imo. The new Stage 3 is completely dependent on how tall you are/long your arms are which is kind of dull.

Stage 4 is loads better but the new problem is, if someone falls off, there's no tension anymore as that's basically the round over. I think they need to edit it a little more.

BUT, by far the best bit of the season is the Italian commentators. I've found myself laughing out loud multiple times at them putting hexes on the other competitors, Bianca "The White Witch", turning up to other booths with random Italian food, and clutching an onion and a red pepper for good luck for their competitor in the final stage. Bizarre yet amazing television.
If Italy isn't back next season it'll be a shame.

I'm done with the season. The fact that it took me three days longer to finish this one than it did the first pretty much shows how my rating of the show has plummeted.

I agree that the Italian hosts were the best of all the presenters. It's funny to me how pretty much everyone seems to share an opinion on the hosts. Last year it was the South Korean hosts that were loved and this year it's the Italian ones. I didn't love our hosts that much emoticon It's a bad start when I can say that the only things I laughed at from them bordered on racist remarks.. emoticon I also hate that they act like they're experts on parkour and rock-climbing and don't show much actual understanding of either exercises at all. And I can't take one more of Chris's jokes where he rhymes the Chinese competitors' names with something else emoticon

The obstacle variety was far worse, and, as I kind of expected, the episode four description of "new Level 1 obstacles" were really just the ones already seen in the second episode. It bugged me so much that they actually said "We have evolved the Beast yet again" for the final, because it should "evolve" every single dang week. Plus the evolution consisted only of a couple of jumps being made farther apart.

Plus, I expected them to at least make it fair to everyone in Level One by using both parts of the split-path, but instead they just used the Dead Bolt/Mag Wall half and gave one group a big advantage over the other.

Season three better have some new obstacles and Terry and Charissa for me to like it again.

Sorry for the triple-post, but:

"The design of the course itself is astounding, working in multiple variations of each course so that not all of the preliminary episodes are saddled with the same handful of tasks. The idea that an independently created test of athletic prowess could be bested by only a handful of people in the world is an impressive feat of contestant casting, competitive design, or both. The variability of the courses cuts through some of the show’s repetitive nature, as do a few genuinely surprising tactics from a couple of the players."
