Using services like Runboard reduces your online visibility.

When I did a Google search for Takeshi's Castle Forum, these were the first three results:
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

I agree that we we lack a lot of modern features, but we hope to fix that in the not too distant future.

The board can only be as aesthetically pleasing as the admins make it, and PR and I can both help with that.

When you host your board here, you can be sure it's secure, and you get better support than I've ever seen with any other board host or software company.

Eek, the word "tableless" sends a chill down my spine! I couldn't see that looking good on a forum, but I digress.

hell, I enjoy making old school plain HTML sites

Have you been in a coma for the last 20 years? emoticon There's this thing called CSS... emoticon

Also, have you ever tried browsing table-based message boards with a phone? It's not an easy feat, which is why I have created CSS for one of our busier boards, that makes it much easier to use on a phone. If demand is high enough, I might get find enough motivation to create a mobile style sheet that is easily customizable for all of our boards.

I wasn't searching for a forum at the time, but touché.

It feels like I've been in a coma for ten years, but I digress. Perhaps I should have clarified. I use CSS for all HTML, but I was referring to the old days over fifteen years ago when CSS was rudimentary.

When I mentioned 'tableless' being a bad thing, I was talking about a layout without columns being ugly on a desktop.
I've always preferred forums the way this is laid out, with a left-side column for user info instead of a row on top, but that's just my opinion. I think variable width without a column is ugly.

Tableless works for mobile layouts, but they should be separate from desktop entirely. Browsing a desktop forum with a phone is a pain in the ass but that doesn't mean you need to change the desktop layout for the sake of mobile. Forum software usually comes with a mobile layout that's automatically chosen by user agent and is optimised for phones and tablets.

At any rate, I'm not the coder here and I'm talking to the head honcho. You know what's best and I wasn't challenging that. My main argument was Runboard's future and this is why I'd never host on a free forum myself. Since you're here, if hypothetically speaking Runboard has to close down will you provide tools to migrate?

Edit: Typo.

Hi, Lesa, great to see you here emoticon

Well, thanks for doing the search and that's good news! Still a shame though that the simple search for 'Takeshi's Castle' itself doesn't lead to our page like it used to emoticon

Well you're here (and if you're not: come baaaack! emoticon ), Dan wanted me to ask you if there's any chance of a Runboard app being made one day? I know you've said before that designing one would be pretty hard, but Dan has just been curious about the idea since he's not able to come to the page as much anymore emoticon

Would it be possible to use that here too? If it is then it should be easy enough for us to make an app that’s basically a browser and points directly to the css version of then board?

That's true. You could make an app that acts as a website wrapper, so it's like a browser shortcut but it runs on its own. emoticon

Two words: Responsive design.

Check out ]this thread on a desktop, then resize your window so it's narrow like a phone.

This would have been much easier to accomplish and look better without tables, but I had to work with Runboard's current code.

Also, if you go to your control panel in a desktop and resize it so it's narrow, you can see how I used responsive design to make it mobile friendly.

Thor has no plans on closing Runboard. But hypothetically speaking, if he ever got tired of maintaining it, I would gladly take over just to keep it going.

Hi, Brian! I'll respond to Dan directly:

Responsive design just uses different CSS for different screen resolutions. This is nothing like an app, which requires actual programming.

Again, I'll refer you to ]this thread or your control panel, and you can re-size your window until it's narrow so you can see how responsive design works.
