I think we have to move on from this topic emoticon

Honestly, seeing that list, we have more active members than I realized!! emoticon Add AlexS, latedep, josechung, Casiopea, Brekkie and Codex and whoever else to the list and we've actually got a rocking group!

My friend didn't join though.. emoticon

We could also have a space for an all-round variety of topics so anyone can talk about what they want to say.

..Everything Else? emoticon That's really all we need - a spam section would be fun to see again but Dayna and Kat no longer post emoticon

Runboard isn't unpopular, either, for a forum-host. Forums themselves are unpopular so blame that source but don't accuse Runboard! Plus this host offers a lot that other ones lack IMO.

We don't need a spam section - we already have stuff like that with the You're Banned topic, that's more than enough emoticon

You don't have to worry about forcing your friends to join haha! We're still rolling along. It may be quiet, but it's not dead yet.

Re: We have to move on.

How about giving the forum a proper address and migrating to forum software like MyBB, vBulletin or phpBB? I own a forum which is about a niche topic and it's a challenge to keep it active, but I know I wouldn't have had a cat in hell's chance if it wasn't for having a forum that's easy(ish) to find, quite modern and aesthetically pleasing.

I do appreciate old forums. I loved the early 2000s and the internet before web 2.0, but nowadays Runboard looks rundown. If you migrated the forum to a new independently hosted server and forum software it would be more appealing to newcomers. It was a small challenge for me to find this board and it shouldn't be a challenge at all!

Using services like Runboard reduces your online visibility. Unfortunately, the biggest problem with using free forum hosting is that it's almost impossible to migrate all the existing threads and posts to a new forum, so you'd have to be prepared to face that challenge. I just worry that since Runboard isn't very popular nowadays it's only a matter of time until the whole forum's swallowed up and it's best to take action before then.

Of course that's only my two pennies' worth! If you want to keep things on Runboard that's fair enough, but I've really enjoyed your main site and I think the forum is very much deserving of an overhaul. (Especially with all these international versions popping up.) If you ever consider that I'm happy to help. emoticon

Bah Humbug! You want modern I can give you that here. You want prepackaged then I'll admit Runboard needs updating. But forums don't depend on looks nearly as much as they do on friendship and trust. Take those away, and it doesn't matter what the board looks like, it will fail.

Hi All,

An interesting discussion of old vs new technology.

Runboard definitely has a retro feel but that is part of its charm. I would imagine, like Blue Mantis wrote, The site may be limited in its ability to attract younger posters.

I see it as Dan's call since he has devoted so much time to the forum's creation and maintenance.

Re: We have to move on.

I will agree with Pastor Rick that the board still retains its original charm - a place for fans of TC (or really anything else, these days) to stop by and talk/share stuff they've done with their friends. While it's exciting to see new members coming in (BTW emoticon to the forum, Blue Mantis!), we still have a consistent community that stop by when they get the chance. Most people aren't on here every single day (and Dan comes by about every 10-or-so), so a quieter forum is kind of just expected. We've made it this far though!

I'm glad you like the site, and it's definitely worth considering a remodel (and Dan has been playing around with making a forum that's easier for him to access so he can come-on more frequently again), you never know! emoticon I'd definitely want to know none of the past posts on here would be lost first though.

I know Runboard has some eventual plans to modernize the look of the boards (though I'm not so sure that's happening very soon), so that's another thing to consider. I'm not sure exactly what it means, but the main idea of the update was described as "tableless boards" for me.

Anyway, miamigirl's right that in the end it's really Dan's choice! emoticon

In the meantime, we hope you'll look forward to some more stuff on here. New topics, shows (including one we've produced ourselves which is coming soon) and updates are sure to come so should keep the forum ticking awhile longer.

PS: We used to be easier to find, before Comedy Central decided to push all of their cheesy articles to the top of the search-results. We were always on the top half of the first page in a search for "Takeshi's Castle", but since last October, you can sometimes scroll through 15 pages and not find a single link to the forum/site emoticon

Eek, the word "tableless" sends a chill down my spine! I couldn't see that looking good on a forum, but I digress. Thanks for the welcome and I like what I've seen of the forum in my limited time here.

My main concern (far more than the retro look which I'm in support of—hell, I enjoy making old school plain HTML sites) was Runboard shutting down eventually and you losing everything (maybe Runboard offers some kind of forum database converter) but if you're confident that Runboard will be around for the foreseeable future then that sounds good.

This keshi head has finally found a home!

Re: We have to move on.

I was consodering the options there were for the future of the forum recently, but they all had their downsides.
Having a more modern-looking forum would of course be great, but moving to different software would mena we lose everything. As far as I’m aware there’s no way to transfer all the posts over?

Runboard has been very good to us over the years and, as Rick said, those who have stuck with us through the years would probably feel put out to have to create new account and start all over again.

I have updated the look of this place a much as I can. It looks a lot more up to date than it used to! However I learned HTML 15 years ago, and things have kind of moved on since I knew what I was doing with coding... emoticon
At best these days I can take some example css codes from a website and modify it in an attempt to make it work the way I need it to, but unfortunately that’s my limit haha.

But yeah, we are behind the times here. Of course forums aren’t anywhere near as popular as they used to be before social media and apps.

What I would really love to do is to create an app for Keshi Heads. That way it would be so much quicker and easier to read and reply, whenever you have a minute. Rather than having to visit the website, log in, etc., which I myself don’t have the time to do often these days. If there was an app I could check it often, and reply to topics without any bother.

Does anyone’s know if it would be possible to integrate Runboard’s system into an app? Keeping everything that we have here, but in the guise of a modern-looking application?

I assume there must be a way, but I know nothing about the specifics of this kind of thing! It’s certainly something that I want to do though. Maybe merging the main site in too, making a kind of all in one social media-esque Takeshi’s Castle app...

And welcome BlueMantis! Great to have you here emoticon

Re: We have to move on.

Thanks Dan!

I don't think an app is possible with Runboard. However, my forum runs vBulletin and it has its own app too which a lot of my members use. (In fact a couple of them only use the forum through the app.) The app is supplied by Tapatalk which support eight different forum software, though sadly Runboard isn't one of them!

If Runboard offered some kind of way to export an SQL database which could be converted to other forum software that would allow you to restore the content, but I'm guessing Runboard wants to keep their members which is understandable. Or simply Runboard isn't coded to make that possible. I suppose you'd need to ask them directly.

So yes, in short, Taptalk is probably king when it comes to forum apps. The service costs me $10 a month and for that I've got an app on both Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. But as said you'd need to migrate if you ever want an app.

I've seen people on Sasuke Maniac who post on Tapatalk, which I've always been curious about. Good to know now emoticon

I had the same concerns, but then I trusted that I was picturing it wrong. Hopefully I'm right, but we'll see! Runboard always really considers their updates (and I tend to agree with them), so don't think they'll just roll-out a bad style if it doesn't work. Plus it might be possible to use the normal table version if the board prefers!
