Re: Game Show Network

I was just talking about Pyramid. Great show, whether it's Dick Clark or Bill Cullen.

Re: Game Show Network

I hate the Michael Strahan version.
Dick Clark is obviously the best, Bill Cullen is a close second, Mike Richards wasn't bad, Donny Osmond was a good host the show just wasn't any good, John Davidson wasn't all that great but he was miles Better than Michael Strahan.

The new versions of Pyramid and Match Game (or as I like to call it: "Alec Baldwin needs Beer Money") are just unwatchable. I still don't know why Strahan is a media personality. He's not funny, He's not a good Host, He's certainly not a good actor yet he's constantly the top choice for shows over better Emcees. (And let the accusations of me being a racist begin).

I'd like to remember Strahan just for his football career.

As for the Match Game, there's plenty of original episodes on YouTube for me to watch instead. You just can't beat the classic 70s run.

I've never watched the black and white original run, but I know it wasn't as "risque" as the 70s run was.

Thank you for the nice words. I'm working on getting the show on Itunes. Episode 2 has already been recorded and edited. Hope to have more guests for future episodes.

emoticon Sounds good, but I'm with latedep in that I'm too self-conscious to upload a video with my voice. Still, I'm eagerly awaiting the next podcast emoticon

Re: Game Show Network

Been reading through this. Yeah, for quite a while GSN has been considered the US equivalent of Challenge, right down to randomly showing any old stuff they want at times and ignoring the GS bit. I've been impressed for a while just how far back they can go in archives for shows like Feud and Match Game, in contrast to the clearance paperwork and archive wipe that holds Challenge back from doing the same more often than not.

I've a right mind to see some Dick Clark Pyramid now. I think he's better known over here for TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes, which Challenge ran for a while over here at the turn of the century. Some might consider him to be the US equivalent to Denis Norden, being at the helm of a primetime blooper show. He also did the US version of Winning Lines, which was killed before it even began in America because it came when everyone was falling over themselves to give away skiploads of cash with Ominous Latin Chanting blasting in the players' ears, just because Millionaire did it and was successful, therefore they thought the Millionaire way must be the ONLY way to be popular. So many of those bandwagon shows were on, poor old Winning Lines got dismissed as just another Millionaire ripoff even though it was made by the same flippin' studio. Changing it in the wake of the bandwagon by giving away up to a million dollars instead of holidays didn't help - again, executives completely missed the point.

I've wondered why Pyramid bombed with Donny Osmond in America whilst he was fairly well received over here. Watching on YouTube now, I can see something is off, but I can't figure out what. There's something about the UK show he nailed that he didn't in the US. Kinda makes it a shame he only did one season to plug a Wales gig.

I was watching Family Feud in Tennessee and it is actually really funny! To a teenager who usually laughs when he's not meant to and gets laughs only when he doesn't intend to, at least emoticon
