Re: American Ninja Warrior General Chat Topic

And the pattern continues! I'm back on the positive side this week, as I was really happy with this episode overall. It felt like I was watching it for about four hours for some reason, but I actually thoroughly enjoyed those makeshift hours emoticon

I loved the obstacles in this episode. All four obstacles used were very instantaneous with exciting moments, which made it hard to look away. I'm not saying I dislike slower obstacles, but these kept my eyes glued on the screen more than usual!

It was supposedly very stormy that night, but I never noticed any rain falling and it didn't really seem to affect anyone!

Floating Steps produced a(n unintentionally) hilarious moment.
The Swinging Bowties was a disappointing stunt to some, but I found it entertaining to watch everything moving. I would definitely rename the obstacle "Crazy Eights" though emoticon I think they could improve this one by having contestants swing on the actual "bowtie bar", so that the obstacle's structure is more involved (rather than just being visual appeal!).
Broken Bridge had the extra step, as well as smaller and rounder triangles this time. I think the smaller the triangles are, the harder it is (as they probably swing easier), but a lot of good saves got people through the obstacle this time. I was sad that most of the epic saves were digested, but the obstacle itself was cool emoticon
Wingnuts worked well, but I didn't see anything amazing this time around. I think this is the only upper-body obstacle (except for maybe Fly Wheels) that I prefer in the third spot.
Lightning Bolts certainly fit the rain theme and it certainly worked as it should've. It looks insanely hard, but I did find myself tiring of watching it around the end of the episode. The room-for-error was certainly small, which kept me watching it the whole way through, but I did expect it all to be a tiny bit more interesting. Again though, it did its job in the position it was in and the laches looked impressive.
Mega Wall was good this week with two people proving they're tall enough! I wonder if they'll ever get to the point of skipping a Mega Wall clear (I guess if they keep it next year and loads of people make it, they might).

I think the fact that all upperbody obstacles had laches in them was a big factor in them being so interesting. Obstacles like these always have a "moment of truth" that you get nervous during, no matter who's running. Of course, I don't want three lache obstacles every week as that'd be very much overkill.

Highlights in this episode were seeing three women clear the course for the first time and watching the amputee crossing the Broken Bridge.

Chris' story was soooo surprising to me - who knew that right after he had his amazing run in Philly Finals two years ago, he was going through a major crisis. Shows that you never do know.

This episode was brought to you by Geno's Cheesesteaks emoticon

If they ever bring back the Broken Bridge next year, I might suggest changing things up by forcing competitors to CRAWL across

I disagree, it would look messy and clumsy. I would remove the fifth or sixth 'dorito' so there is a big gap that they have to leap over. That would be brutal!

I know it'd look odd, but I'm exasperated enough by the number of quick-stepping balance obstacles that the look of something different wouldn't really bother me.

Also, for some reason, there's no episode tomorrow emoticon

IK it really puzzles me. Someone on SM said something about a hockey match but it's being replaced by a repeat of LA so I'm confused as to why they're showing that rather than a new episode. My best guess would be either re-editing as Vegas has filmed and maybe they fast-forwarded the last man standing or something or there was possibly something else meant to be on at that time but it got moved or cancelled. Just guesses though, I really have no clue!

I think they might be doing it seeing as ratings are so low for them this season and they want to squeeze the lemon to the last drop - new episodes matter more to their ratings so they'd rather show them in a less busy week when more people are around to watch.

That's my best guess!

I reckon next year they'll go back to five cities coz many people get bored and they are running out of decent new obstacles - that's the whole reason they brought in the obstacle design challenge for season 9.

That'd be my first move (well, except for more difficult things like making courses slightly more passable) if I were ANW. Maybe then give Stage One two-and-a-half episodes, with the second half of the one episode starting Stage Two, then a full episode on Stage Two and a final episode that wraps-up the last Stage Two runs and beyond.

Last year's final ep had THIRTY Second Stage runs cut so I feel like four hours should be devoted to it this time, so most people are shown.

That way there's an extra Vegas episode and two less regional episodes. If they want to keep the same amount of episodes as usual, they could do a summary episode before Vegas.

That sounds better to me!

I remember the ANW 7 recap episode - it was so boring so I wouldn't do one. Everything else I agree with though, I didn't realise it was as much as 30 but I knew they cut a lot of stage 2 runs. Another way to sort out the cut run problem would be to make stage 1 harder so that less people complete stage 1 coz over 40 is way too much.

That is true. But they could do a special where they show cut-runs and behind-the-scenes info? That wouldn't be boring.

Yes that would be good, something we haven't seen.
