I Survived a Japanese Game Show
Does anyone here like that show 'cos I love it?
It's the way they've got everything spot on - the mix of games and contestants and side bits and punishments and arguments that. That they make the games feel like a second wheel to the visiting of Japan. I really love the games and they never reuse them - well except Making New Friends in Japan and a mish-mash of games in the final round.
I just re-watched the first season and am about to re-watch the second

Re: I Survived a Japanese Game Show
I've only ever seen clips of it. It's built too much on a stereotype for my liking. I've never seen a real Japanese gameshow like it.

Re: I Survived a Japanese Game Show
Hmm (as you know) I hate stereotypes but the show hasn't sent up any red flags with me I guess if you like it you like it, you don't you don't.
Anyway, they're always saying things like "A classic Majide game" or "This game always makes me hungry" so was this a show without Americans and just with the Japanese because it could be a new game and they're saying how much they love it and why it's played so much usually

I always thought they were taking the games from real Japanese gameshows (and just made the presentation a bit crazier)

Re: I Survived a Japanese Game Show
Nope, it was never a real gameshow in any form. It was totally made up for this show.
The Japanese guy who hosted it is an acorn who lives in America. It's the same man in G4's version of Banzuke.

Re: I Survived a Japanese Game Show
I wasn't referring to the gameshow Majide that they had on the show, but the games themselves, e.g. ISAJGS stealing those ideas from Japan.
Are you sure that they haven't used any games from Japanese shows? Didn't they get sued, too?

Yep, I guessed you meant that, Codex

I was reading this at my lunch break and I typed it "what is an acorn referring to a person" and people happened to be looking and laughed at me they told me I was nuts for not knowing what an acorn was
I didn't get any results though so what does acorn mean in that sentence?!

Re: I Survived a Japanese Game Show
In this sentence, "acorn" is "actor" spelt wrong and auto-corrected without me realising.
I'm pretty sure none of the games were taken from any Japanese show. They invented "Japanese-style" games, but didn't take any directly from anywhere else.
