Re: Animation!

Cartoon Network was the leader in the 90s. Closely followed by Warner.

How many can I list? From CN: Dexter's Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, The Powerpuff Girls, Ed, Edd 'n Eddy.

From WB: Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Taz-Mania. We watched Batman, Batman of the Future and Superman from WB's DC stable, too.

Weren't the 90s awesome? emoticon

Currently I am enjoying the reboot of Dangermouse on CBBC. Fun fact, the top rodent agent in Britain is now produced by an Irish studio, Boulder Media. emoticon They have also produced Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and The Amazing World of Gumball for CN.

I never really liked those 90s Warner Brother cartoons. I think they went on a bit too long. My attention span has always been a bit low emoticon

Damn! How could I have forgotten Freakazoid?! One of WB's best from that 90s period of awesome. Even as kids, it suited our sense of humour. That explains a lot.

One of my favourite segments was The Huntsman, with his dramatic intro always undone by the city being really quiet when we catch up with him and he's frustrated at having no-one to fight.

The line from his song, "strength, speed, and shiny teeth" I think fits F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo nowadays. He has "The Honey Badger" as his official nickname, but I call him Huntsman, because of his big wide smile, which he often gets mocked for, usually by suggesting his teeth are blindingly shiny, or that you can see them from space.

Go on, The Huntsman!

I never watched Freakazoid. I've heard of it, but if you had shown me a picture of him I wouldn't have been able to tell you who it was!

Re: Animation!

Wow, that's a blast from the past. I was just about still in school when that was on. Came from a brief period in the early to mid '00s when France was where it's at when it came to animation, with shows such as the mentioned Code Lyoko, Oban Star Racers and Galactik Football. Did it ever end, or did they just stop making it? It seemed to just fall off the air over here after a while. Toonami showed it here, and I remember people saying at the time they wished they could just do what Jeremie could do when they had a bad day - just click a button and say "Return to the past now!"

Now Irish studios are becoming more notable, but back then Galactik Football in particular was unusual, being a French and Irish co-production. Certainly made it stand out. And its theme tune was awesome. People mock Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade and the like for the premise of 'a kids game is the key to save the world from evil', but I think GF trumped it with the whole treating its setting as life or death thing.

"Fifteen years ago, a mysterious explosion rocked Akillian, swept The Breath away... AND DESTROYED our chances in the Galactik Football cup! Fifteen years without a decent team! And nothing but snow and ice..."

Nooo! Fifteen years of losing. That's terrible. Even worse than a planet being plunged into a permanent winter! emoticon Love that.

I think if one watches GF now, there might be a few FIFA corruption jokes you could make right about now...

Code Lyoko had an ending in 2007. France 4 (not FR3, FR4) and Canal J made a reboot in 2014 called "Code Lyoko: Evolution". What's the catch? Live-action mixed with CGI.
