Re: Making of Crystal Maze

Looks to me to be like that publicity thing a restaurant did recently where they built a version of Fun House in the car park and managed to get hold of Pat Sharp and Melanie and Martina to 'host'.

Let's all agree now to team up for when they do Finders Keepers with Neil. emoticon

I dunno - this one seems a bit more 'real' than a publicity thing. They have nothing to promote! But I'm still not convinced it's going to be "as close to the real thing as possible". The drawing suggests otherwise.

Looks like you're right on this one Dan. The Crystal Maze experience finally opens in March, and they say it will be up and running for at least the next three years.

I'm going to wait until it opens to see if it's worth taking part.

The new concept art seen in recent news articles isn't an exact replica to the tv set, but looks exciting.

Well, I think it couldn't be an exact replica, because this isn't going to be on TV. It's going to be made to resemble how it looked on the screen rather than the actual set, if that makes sense. By that I mean that it has to be made so the zones connect more seamlessly than they do on the set. In the original there were all those eleborate connecting corridors between the zones, and they had to have room for all the cameras and lights and stuff, and they also had to stop and start to reset the games. This can all be done a lot quicker in a 'live' version, where you can essentially walk between the zones, which is how it came across on the screen, thanks to the joy of editing. That's how it looks to me, anyway. Not that I'll ever see it in action, anyways. Being set in London, and all.

I hope there are tunnels and climbing walls and stuff connecting the zones, not just corridors. That'd take a lot of the adventure out of it if you didn't have to scramble to the next zone and simply walked through a room instead.

I stupidly mentioned it to some people last week and now they want us to go. emoticon If it really is like the real things then it would be really cool - actually get to live that dream of being there you had as a kid - but it would be SERIOUSLY embarrassing with everyone watching you. I read that you meet up with the three other teams who you're competing against at the start and "psych them out". Um, no thanks. Plus there's the 'viewing platform' (however the hell that can work) where other people watch you playing. If it was just your own team and that was it then it wouldn't be so bad, but to have to meet 20+ strangers and have more random people staring at you too isn't really my thing!

But then it's only like half hour away by train so we might end up going. emoticon

Apparently you have to be over 18 to get in, so don't go traveling half way across the world to be dissapointed.

Although meeting me would be worth it, I know.
