Yeah, the entire Ghosts 'n Goblins (Makaimura) series is notoriously difficult, but it's like you want to keep playing it to try to win, only to find out you have to beat the game twice to get the real ending.

Ah, The Ninja. The pad breaking memories. It and the Master System Sonics had me rage quitting long before the term was even coined. Awesome music though.

"Daaaa... da da da daaaa..."

For another angle on how Sonic in particular was handled in Europe compared to the other markets, check out the Sonic the Comic Retrospective's take. How many years has this retrospective been up? Good Lord...

Oh, the excitement of cycling down to the local newsagents (now a card shop... *sniff*) to pick up the latest Sonic the Comic after watching the ITV Saturday morning shows.

I toiled for years on The Ninja's DAMNED last level, but Sonic 1 & 2 were not too bad, although Sonic 2 has some massive hair-ripping-out moments. Act 2 of Sky High Zone and Scrambled Egg Zone, I'm looking at you... emoticon

My rage quit favorite was Golden Axe - because a buddy made so good score that I just had to beat it and that meant restarting every time I took few hits...

Games where you make a score have always been ones most getting on my nerves, usually because I'm chasing my own records. That's why all such should have a top 10 or 20 of scores, so you could every now and then get the satisfaction of making a list score.

The number of times I nearly snapped the SNES controller getting in a rage over Mario emoticon I'm surprised it never broke actually. It always felt (and sounded) like it was going to!

I've thrown so many SNES controllers, but they still worked perfectly. They were built pretty good.

It's a good job they were - we only had one!

Did they only come with one controller over there? Mine came with two. The redesign only came with one though, but you guys never got the redesign SNES.

The Euro SNES looks like the Japanese Super Famicom, but it couldn't play Japanese games due to the NTSC/PAL incompatibility. We can play them, but at the expense of "modifying" the console by removing two plastic tabs in the cart slot. Now that I can take consoles apart, I didn't even have to do that.

Yeah we only got the one controller. I don't know if that was a standard thing but our SNES had Super Mario All Stars bundled with it, so possibly they could have taken the second controller out and replaced it with the game? Actually that's the only game we ever had for it!

One pad for our Master System has the directional button broken clean off by my pad throwing from years gone by. I can't even remember what year it was I did it, I just know it was me because I did that back then. It still works, you just have to insert the button into it's 'slot'. emoticon

If you have a Genesis/Mega Drive, you can use the controller for that system on the SMS. That's the neat thing about the 9-pin standard connector. I use Sega controllers on my Atari 2600 instead of those crappy joysticks.
