Video Games

Has there been a thread about video games? If there wasn't, there is now. emoticon

You know, just anything about video games: what you're currently playing, what you own, etc. Computer games included.

I'm currently engrossed in Donkey Kong Country 3, trying to get the 105% completion. I stayed up until 4 in the morning playing it and watching a Japanese baseball game at the same time.

Playing my old favorite Wing Commander series once again (now at WC2).
Also Final Fantasy Legend 3 (aka SaGa 3) on Game Boy emulator.

Only console I own (or ever have) is Sega Master System.

Re: Video Games

I've managed to acquire quite a few video game consoles:

Atari 2600

Atari 7800 (I bought both of these Atari consoles at the same time, with about 50 games for the 2600, no less than 8 controllers (all different), and the manuals for the games for about $50.)

Nintendo NES (given to us a long time ago by someone who claimed it was "struck by lightning." All it needed was a new cartridge connector.)

Nintendo Super NES (have two versions; the original model and the redesigned model which never made it to Europe.)

Nintendo 64 (it's somewhere...)

Sony PSOne

Sony PS2

Sony PS3 (which I don't use for games, but as a DVD/Blu-Ray player. My brother uses it to play games.)

Nintendo GameCube

Atari Super Pong (which I never play because no one will play it with me.)

XBOX (which my cousin has currently.)

XBOX 360 (we had it, but it's whereabouts are unknown)

Every Game Boy model except the Game Boy Pocket and the Japan-only Game Boy Light (not including special edition versions like the Pokemon editions)

Nintendo DS (with a broken top screen)

Nintendo Famicom (Japanese version of the NES)

Sega Master System (which I bought for one whole dollar)

Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive; it wasn't called that here because of some stupid copyright problem.)

That's about it really. I'll have to post some photos of all of it.

Re: Video Games

I know we've spoken about video games before but I don't think we've ever had a topic about it. In eleven years!

I always get bored too easily these days, so I've had to stop myself from buying any games for a while now. I'll play them for a week then give up and most of the time never touch them again emoticon The only games I go back to are Mario, Mario Kart and Tetris!

Hmmm, I've had (/or shared with my sister) a NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Advance, DS, DSi, DS XL, 3DS and 3DS XL.
Still got them all except the original Gameboy which I dropped years ago and the screen smashed emoticon Still have the original games for it though.

I did used to play on the DSs quite a bit, which is why I kept upgrading them. We did have a PS One for a short time too. It think that's it.

I can never be bothered to play with the Wii becuase every time I go to use it the batteries in the controls are dead. That 's the problem these days with wireless controllers. Oh for the old days where they plugged into the consols emoticon

Even though I've been playing games since I was 4 - which is when I got the first Gameboy - I've not completed many at all. All the ones that I have finished are Mario ones, plus Zelda Ocarina of Time (with help of a walkthrough). That and Super Mario Bros Wii are the only two games I've ever completed on a console - all the others were re-releases on Gameboy/DS. I'm better at handheld versions for some reason emoticon
We had every regular Mario game up until the WiiU one on their original consols, yet it's taken me until the handheld versions to actually beat them lol. And I only finished the first two Mario Gameboy games becuase you can save them at any time on the DS download versions, so I saved every few seconds in hard levels and kept going back whenever I died emoticon So I've had the original Gameboy Super Mario Land for exactly 22 years and one day today (scary) but I only completed it a couple of years ago. Two decades to finish a game isn't bad, right!?..

Re: Video Games

I remember getting the original Game Boy for Christmas in about 1994 or 1995. It was the special Clear plastic version (which I still have, and it still works.) Oh, the struggle of having to play it in the dark with an attached magnifying glass with lights! emoticon

I forgot to mention that I have a Wii, and a ColecoVision, but the controllers really suck. Uncomfortable to hold, and the worst joystick ever. It's so stiff it doesn't even feel like I'm moving it. I don't have the box, but I have the original styrofoam (with the embossed ColecoVision logo.)

I have or had a Gameboy, a Gameboy Color, a N64, a GameCube, a Wii, a not so exciting Wii U and I won an Xbox One recently.. which is my first console that's not from Nintendo.

Also we had a SNES, a Gameboy Advance and a Playstation 2 at home. Not owned by me, but it was still there. (Never played on the PS though)

I haven't played any bigger games recently, a bit of a Mario Kart 8, a bit of Mario Party 10...

Re: Video Games

I've been a little... liberal about copyright laws, so I have some emulator history with 20-30 computers/consoles.

I'm keeping a (incomplete) list of games I've finished (by any definition; I mark on scale 1-10 how much I cheated).
The list has some 350 games (in 20+ years), maybe 20% completed without any cheating or walkthrough and in max (or at least very respectable) difficulty. Mostly I play easy or cheat or have FAQ.

Let's have some bragging. What is the most difficult game you've finished? Or otherwise most hardcore gaming achievement?

For me it's probably some driving game, either Sega GT (PC version) or Ridge Racer Type 4 (PS1). RR4 took insane amount of hours to get all cars.
Or my first mentioned favorite Wing Commander. WC3 (PC) on highest difficulty may be the toughest of those I've done.

Re: Video Games

To be honest, I'm not really a good video game player. So, hard games aren't really my favorite.

But, I have beaten the first Mega Man game, though not on the NES. I actually pre-ordered the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the PS2, and it has 1 through 8, as well as the two rare arcade 1 on 1 fighting games. That's probably the hardest game I've beaten, and it's considered the hardest of the original series.

Pretty much every game is hard for me emoticon

I guess the hardest would be Ocarina of Time becuase there's so much to do in it and some of the temples are a serious pain in the arse. But then I did use a walkthrough so that's probably technically cheating.

PS4 done and dusted, though only my sister uses it much. I only play Oddworld New'n'Tasty on it. All other games are hers: Assassin's Creed Unity, Assassin's Creed Chronicles China, CounterSpy, Flower, Destiny, Little Big Planet 3. I've pre-ordered the steelbook edition of Formula 1 2015, and that's it. They'd better come up with something interesting for online multiplayer, because, really, having no friends, (in the PSN sense of the phrase, that is...) I'm just grinding for trophies with each new F1 release every year, having to endure 'richard craniums' who are only interested in doing their own version of Destruction Derby and hurling insults at each other with their chat functions. Not a very pleaseant way to while away an evening. emoticon

One of my biggest achievements was to complete Comix Zone on one of the Sega Mega Drive compilations, as it meant I'd finally finished the damn thing after TEN YEARS. emoticon
