Sourcing MXC

I couldn't think of a better title, sorry. emoticon

I've been watching Season One of MXC for the first time in a while, and I still have the habit of pointing out which games come from which original episodes. So, I thought I'd start a thread dedicated to finding that out. With not much to post about these days, I thought it would be fun, and something I can torture myself with. emoticon

I'm going to start with Season One, since it's the beginning. All characters and games are going to be referred to by their MXC names.

Episode 1: Meat Handlers vs. Cartoon Voice Actors (a.k.a. Network Boss)

Intro:
Not really the whole intro, but the title sequence. The Takeshi's Castle title card is actually from the Final Episode, episode 129. If you pay attention after the announcer says the name of the show and is introducing Vic and Kenny, you can see just a brief part of the subtitle to the original episode under the MXC graphics.

Here's a screenshot of the subtitle under the MXC graphic:
Image

Host Segments:

All of the host segments are from Episode 82. Not much to say here.

Guy's segment:

Guy's segment where he introduces the game lineup is from Episode 91

Captain's Speech:

The Captain's speech is from Episode 91.

Sinkers and Floaters:

From Episode 91. Easy to spot due to infamous contestant "Rob Tussin" and his failed backflip. Thanks to General Johnnie for pointing me to the right episode.

Log Drop:

All from Episode 91 except the last contestant, which is from Episode 77. A contestant shot from Episode 110 is also edited in (the American contestant in the Denver Broncos shirt is a giveaway.)

Wall Buggers:

All from Episode 91. They edited a losing contestant to win by slowing down the impact on the wall, while in the original episode, she sticks then falls off.

Another interesting thing is that Animal says "Come on baby" to one of the contestants in the MXC edit. He says the exact same thing in the original episode. So, in essence, they "translated" it correctly.

Boulder Dash:

All from Episode 39.

Don't Get Eliminated! Cheer:

Cut from the end of the 1st host segment of Episode 82.

Final Notes:

Most of this episode is from only 2 episodes, 82 and 91. But with one extra contestant on Log Drop, pulling Boulder Dash from an earlier episode, and the random clip from Episode 110, brings the total episode usage to FIVE. Definitely won't be the last episode to use that many original episodes to make one.

Whew! That's a lot of typing.

One thing I forgot is how nice and clear the picture quality of the DVDs are.

I'll do Episode 2 next time.

Edit: I think the intro is actually taken from episode 129.

Can't wait for episode 2 and of course 7 emoticon

Wow, this is going to take a lot of research, but it's interesting to read! Nice work so far emoticon

Re: Sourcing MXC

It will take a while, yes, but it's something I've been wanting to do. You know, for research!

Episode 2: Donors vs. Addicts

Intro:

Same as the first episode, but this would be the last time they would use this particular version. Episode 3's intro would be the first where the announcer says the letters "MXC" before saying the full title of the show. Watch Episode 2's and Episode 3's intros back-to-back to see what I'm talking about.

Host Segments:

The host segments are from Episode 77

Captain's Speech:

This is from Episode 111. The guy in the striped uniform ("Papito the Sandwich Delivery Guy") is a giveaway.

Mud Buttlers:

This is from Episode 110. Huge giveaway is the foreign contestants. Each contestant playthrough is slightly edited at the beginning to remove their country's flag.

Dash To Death:

All from Episode 111. Every contestant is included.

Rotating Surfboard of Death:

All from Episode 111. Papito, again, gives the episode source away. All the contestants are included, with the one contestant interview, and the contestants running through with the number remaining.

Brass Balls:

From Episode 111, but edited down to three contestants. Also included is the General's interview with the winning contestant from before the final showdown. MXC did this all the time, and showing the interviews from before the showdown always gave away the winners of the games.

Pole Riders:

From Episode 111. Some contestants were edited out. Includes the lone contestant interview for this game.

Don't Get Eliminated cheer:

Uses the same as the 1st episode (Episode 82)

Final Notes:

Most of the games come from one episode. Using Episode 110 for one game is an odd choice, though. The host segments come from just one episode, but for some reason use the cheer from the previous episode again.

Re: Sourcing MXC

Anyone can help me, if I run across a game or sketch I can't identify.

Episode 3: Dairy Workers vs. Automobile Workers (a.k.a. Cows vs. Cars)

Intro:

From now to the end of the season, the announcer now says the initials "MXC" before the full title of the show. The MXC logo now covers over the Takeshi's Castle title.

Host Segments:

The host segments are from Episode 82 (again). So, three episodes in and they've used the same host segments that were used before.

Guy's Segment:

This is from Episode 118. Since it's Kenji Nagae and not Junji Inagawa, it's much easier to narrow down. Nagae was only in three episodes, and it doesn't match Episode 65. I don't have Episode 64, but I'm sure it doesn't match either. Another clue is in the Teetering Temple of Crippling Doom, which is also from 118. More on that in its segment.

I'm not concerned with the "Highlights from Preliminaries" segment, but if anyone wants to tackle it, go ahead.

Captain's Speech:

I think it's also Episode 118. A girl in a cow costume plays Teetering Temple of Crippling Doom, and Tani talks to her duing this scene.

Wall Buggers:

This is from Episode 77.

Get Hard!:

This is from Episode 130. Really easy to spot, due to it being both a one-off game and in a unique location (mud flat).

Saddle Sores:

This is from Episode 118. The animated Japanese title for the game gives it away, since there are only two episodes that have them (117 being the other, and this game wasn't played in that episode.)

Swish Bucklers:

This is from Episode 130. Unique location definitely gives it away.

Teetering Temple of Crippling Doom:

This is from Episode 118. Four things give it away: Kenji Nagae is doing interviews, the Japanese title is animated, it doesn't match Episode 117 before it, and the girl in the cow costume Tani talked to at the beginning of the episode. Her pre-showdown interview is used here also.

Don't Get Eliminated! cheer:

Episode 82 (again, again)

Final Notes:

An episode sourced from four original episodes. This might be the first episode to recycle host segments from another show.

Continuing on with...

Episode 4: Cops vs. Cons

Host Segments:

All from Episode 126.

Guy's Segment:

This is from Episode 126, also, but shortened from the original.

Captain's Speech:

Also from Episode 126. Shortened from the original.

Dope on a Rope:

Once again, from Episode 126.

Prison Break:

This is from Episode 82. They sure loved this episode for some reason.

Hand Job:

This is from Episode 90. Easier to spot since it was shot at night, and in front of the castle.

Bunk Buddies:

This is from Episode 126. Different from Episode 125, in which the Japanese title graphics are different colors (125's is blue, this one is red.)

Legal Maze:

Another one from Episode 82. I think this episode had the most used from it.

Yankin' It:

This one is from Episode 89. Much different from Episode 88 (which was shot at night) and Episode 41 (which was the Team Special.)

Don't Get Eliminated! cheer:

This is from Episode 126.

Final Notes:

So, the producers apparently loved Episode 82. Another episode from four different original episodes.

This is easier than it seems. The only hard part is finding the host segments, as most of them look very similar.

Thanks. I've made sure to go over them again and check for mistakes, like the intro.

This is kind of like The Garden Tapes, except not about Led Zeppelin, and video instead of audio.

Episode 5: The Couples Show

OK, so this whole episode is taken from a single episode: Episode 98. So, instead of stating the obvious, the games sections will just note if there is any editing of contestants.

Intro:

There is a slightly different intro that uses clips from the episode itself.

Host Segments:

These are edited fairly significantly. This also includes the "Don't Get Eliminated!" cheer.

Guy's Segment:

Shortened by a lot, cutting out a sketch.

Plank Spankers:

One couple and their interview has been cut, but other than that, is complete and is in the original running order.

Romantic Rotating Surfboard of Death:

Although needlessly sped up, every couple is included in the original running order, save for one interview that's been cut. Tani's intro and Shimada's intro are both cut.

Hot Steaming Bowl of Love:

Four couples and an interview are cut, but the remaining couples all follow the original order; includes the contestants running through and the number remaining.

The Sticky Stuff of Love:

Tani's intro is cut. Animal's intro where he plays a drunk is also cut. The first couple is cut slightly to remove the Japanese title, which doesn't make any sense, seeing that they left them on the first three games. All of the couples are included in the original order, but many of them have been cut slightly, and one is missing an interview.

Brass Balls of Love:

After the first couple play (which they made another cut to remove the Japanese title), they use the "Ken-O-Tron" (the game animation), then they play through as normal. One couple has been shifted around, and their interview was cut. Again, the footage has been sped up, and most of the couples have been edited.

Final Notes:

The first episode to be sourced from only one original episode. This one was very easy.

This isn't one of my favorite episodes, mainly because the original episode is so good.

Episode 6: Inventors vs. Ex-Child Actors

This whole episode is taken from Episode 63.

Host Segments:

One of the segments in MXC, I couldn't find in the original episode. TBS cut the sketch before Final Fall in the rebroadcast, so the missing segment must have bit the dust along with it.

Guy's segment:

His segment actually comes from after Skipping Stones in the original episode, where he is hit by a giant hand that has "Katsura Producer" written on it.

Captain's speech:

Edited by at least half the original length.

Get Over It:

Edited by at least half or more than the original length.

Sinkers and Floaters:

Three contestants are gone, but the rest are in the original order.

Door Jam:

Two contestants are gone, but the rest are in the original order.

Le Tour de Grand Prix:

The women contestants are now second in order, instead of last. Small edits are made to much of this game. The voice actors make mock revving noises, just like the contestants in the original episode.

Log Drop:

All but one of the contestants are here, and in the original order.

Don't Get Eliminated! cheer:

Taken from after the Showdown.

Final Notes:

Excluding the couples show, this is the only episode so far that only uses footage from one episode.
