The dismount is where the trouble happens and the eliminations occur, as they have to stretch outwards to reach the platform. The contestants worked this out fairly quickly and attacked the first part to concentrate on the dismount. Bringing back the Tackle Machine was both a surprise, and evil, because they clearly worked out the mistake they made last time it appeared WAY back in Sasuke 5. Putting it at the end of a stage instead of the start makes it more challenging because it saps your remaining energy so it's really low for afterwards, hence contestant after contestant couldn't get up the Warped Wall because they were left spent by the Tackle Machine. At the start you're fresh, so can clear it easily enough. Similar principle to the Drum Hopper in the current Stage 3 - you'll clear that one easily, but doing so leaves you weakened for the real test further on... In Stage 2, glad they corrected their Salmon Ladder mistake, but still made it awful by making people go DOWN it for the first time. You devious gits! Also, boo, the Backstream is still there. Oh well...nondisclosed_email@example.com (rsmcc)Mon, 07 Mar 2016 02:36:32 +0000 Re: 30 Tournaments! The rolling log factory thing looks more difficult than it is, I think. The trick is going to be in the dismount. I like the Tackle Machine thing. There aren'tt many obstacles in the first stage that require pure strength so this is a nice addition. Also it now gives the course some much needed length, now the Warped Wall feels properly near the end.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Oni91)Sat, 15 Aug 2015 17:27:36 +0000 Re: 30 Tournaments! Hopefully, I've coloured the text right to 'spoiler tag' this Tropes style, in the unlikely event this tournament ever gets Jim-ified. * mr. tom is right about Stage 1, I just couldn't put my finger on what seemed 'off' about it. That's it, it looks too much like the early days compared to the rest of the course, with the obstacles almost arranged in a straight line again rather than the 18-27 days of the course gradually snaking around the grounds. * I liked what I call the 'Super' Jump Hang, with two nets allowing for different styles to emerge, though I was shocked and gutted for Bunpei, as he showed his rustiness by mistiming his jump and messing up his patented 'jump off the frame of the trampoline' technique, in similar fashion to how Yuko Mizuno lost on the Hop Rocket in Kuno 7 - overstepping and jumping off the padding, killing the jump. Would have loved to see Bunpei tackle Stage 2 in his one-off return. I'll miss ya, buddy. * 'Team Katsumi'... really? * Also, what the hell is with Takeda's haircut? * Nagano clearing for the first time in the Rising era gets he thumbs up from me, of course, and I'm sure it would for Jim, also. Other returnees pleasing me include Kinnikun Nakayama and also Shunsuke Nagasaki. I didn't recognize him at first, and hearing the announcer call out his name in Stage 2 caught me by surprise. He's 27 now, that makes me feel bloody old. lol. * 26 going through to Stage 2 blew me away. I haven't seen all the Rising days, so I don't know if such a large number of clears is now common or not. * That bleeping Backstream is still there, unfortunately. Hadn't seen Yuuji attack it before, and was surprised to see him struggle with it. Does he normally have trouble with that? Shingo hasn't passed it the times I've seen him do it, either. Did his shoulder give out again, there? Also, retractable rungs on the Salmon Ladder... WTF?! What twisted mind thought that up? Seeing several of the old guard, such as Nagano and Takeda either disqualified or straight eliminated on that obstacle because of that really pissed me off. Finally, like the fusion of the Spider Walk and the old Body Prop into the 'Spider Drop'. Keeps the old spider fresh for a little while longer. *Hadn't seen Rising-spec Stage 3 at all before. The Rumbling Dice back as the first obstacle in these past 3 tournaments? Didn't see that one coming! The Iron Paddler looks awkward as hell, the Drum Hopper deceptively difficult. But, Holy Cow, the Crazy Cliff Hanger, fusing old-school Cliff Hanger with the switchback of the Swap Salmon Ladder... just pure evil! * As for the Final Stage, I was both disappointed to see the old walls back, and baffled to see them not retracting after 15 seconds. Desperate for another Champion, guys? So, see you next year for 31, then? nondisclosed_email@example.com (rsmcc)Fri, 07 Nov 2014 01:26:02 +0000 Re: 30 Tournaments! Stage 3 had an obstacle called drum hopper but everything else was the same. It was a good comp overall. Stage 1 seems watered down from the comp 18+ era which is a bit sad. I'm glad we get more clears nowadays but it feels like a step back just in terms of scale.
