Re: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire

Germany has a new millionaire. I haven't seen it, but apparently the question was

"How many stones does the classic Rubik's cube have?"

 emoticon

Those questions get easier every single year.

Easy? Huh. I didn't know that. I've never thought about it. A Rubik's cube is just a multicoloured square thing to most people these days. I think that's quite hard because one might mistakenly believe that it has hundreds because of all the combinations of colours you end up with when it's mixed up. I did when I read that. I've never completed one, come to think of it. My brain will never be able to compute it. My old childhood sequencing problems will just make me go round and round forever. So called 'speed cubing' is a dark art as far as I'm concerned.

Meanwhile, hark! Someone's dragged up the Irish Millionaire.

Huh? emoticon It has six sides, nine stones (maybe that's a term for something else but I took it as colored pieces) so six times nine is 54, right? emoticon

Maybe you call it a different way, but the question wasn't referring to the color plates (in that case it'd be 54). It's probably more obvious in the German question.

9 stones in the buttom row, 8 in the middle row (no center piece) and 9 stones at the top row = 26 stones in total.

Oh thanks emoticon

Yeah we/I don't use that terminology but I understand now. Would've guessed 27 though because I forgot about the middle emoticon

I was thinking 27 too. There not being a middle is a bit of a trick.
So this question wasn't so easy after all. Or we're all dumb. LOL

But 27 was not an answer, it was 22, 24, 26 or 28.

So even if you thought it would have been 27, you haven't had a chance to say 27.
