The pilot was filmed in 1991 but not aired until 20 March 1993 on ABC.

That explains some things emoticon

Interesting that they bothered showing it after two years if it was just going to be a standalone episode? Was it aired as some kind of special on March 20, or did they just have nothing else to show that day emoticon

Brilliant of French TV to show this - did not know at all they got as far as doing a pilot of Fort Boyard, though is was a recreation in a London studio rather than at the Fort itself.

I was hoping for a revival 😂

Looking forward to finding out exactly what Boyard Land will be. I'm guessing just Fort Boyard in a theme park, but there wouldn't seem much point of doing the same thing.

It's been a long time since I last did a post.

For anyone who haven't seen the recent French series, they brought in a game called Voyage dans le Temps (Time Machine), which involves a contestant going to the Watch Tower, and he/she meets Patrice Laffont, the show's original host, and then enters the time machine, which "takes them to 1990 (the earliest)". When they entered the "past" (the cell where Egout (Sewers) used to be), the contestant will find him/herself dressed like the contestants of the earlier seasons, and will have to play an old game from previous seasons.

The games included were:
- Femme Coupee (Woman Cutting) (appeared in the French version in 1990 and the 2012 Halloween Special) (Episode 1)
- Sable (Sand) (appeared in the French version from 1990 to 1993) (Episode 3)
- Cagoule (Hood) (appeared in the French version from 1992 to 1995) (Episode 4)
- Assiette (Plate) (appeared in the French version from 1995 to 1996, with Foreign versions using it in 1997) (Episode 7)
- Mange-Fil (Wire Eating) (appeared in the French version from 2001 to 2002, 2004 and 2006, with Foreign versions using it in 2003, 2005, and 2007 to 2010) (Episode 9)

Once the game is finished, the contestant make his/her way back to the time machine, and exits back into the Watch Tower, still dressed like the contestants from the earlier seasons.

The fourth game listed, Assiette, becomes used in foreign versions as a main game, and the cell is redecorated to remove any elements to Voyage dans le Temps. The door used for the cell is still the same used for Egout, although the entry above the door with the ladder was removed.

Here's a clip from Fort Boyard Afrique with the game in question (renamed Boussole (Compass), although the compass design was removed):
