Run for Money With the lack of Million Family this month (/year? ) here's something sort of similar. Well, it's kind of hide and seek but with no set hiding place. It's one of the best things I've watched in ages, PLUS it has Mari, which makes anything great Is there a show she isn't on!?
I'm not sure how long it'll be on YouTube for, so watch quick if you want to!
The game starts with 19 players, and three Hunters. The Hunters are locked cages to start with. In front of the cages are a bunch of chains. In turn, the order selected at random, the players need to choose one chain and pull it. Only one of the chains will release the Hunters, and you don't want to be the one to pull it! Choose any of the unconnected chains and you can run off and get out the way.
Each player has a phone (which they are sent missions and updates on), a coin and a map of the park they're playing in. As soon as the Hunters are released, a 90-minute timer begins, and the prize money counts up 200 Yen every second.
The aim of the game is to try and not get caught until the time is up. Anyone who isn't caught at the end of the game wins the prize money that has accumulated.
Along the way there are some missions that the coins can be spent on. They can also be spent on chickening out. If you want to stop playing, you can use the coin to pay to get on a boat (later a cart) where the Hunters can't get you. If you do this you win whatever the prize money is up to at that point.
It's long. I watched over a couple of days, but I think it's worth it!:
Mission 1: The townspeople have made barricades at the entrances to Green Town, White Town and Yellow Town. The players need to collect a bag of money from the king and take it to a barricade to pay for it to be removed - giving them a bigger area to hide in. They only have until the timer reaches 70 minutes to do this.
Mission 2: Three more Hunters are locked in cages. They'll be released when the timer reaches 50 minutes, unless they players lock them in. To do this, they need to use tokens. There's a gold, silver and bronze cage. One of their coins will lock the bronze cage, but to lock the silver one they need to team up and use two coins to buy a silver token from somewhere. To buy the gold token, they'll need three coins. Lock all the cages in time or there'll be more Hunters to avoid!
Mission 3: Oh no! The princess with the dubbed-over voice is ill! The players need to buy some medicinal herbs from the market in Green Town and take it to the king to help the princess. In return he'll give out the key to a place with a machine locked inside. They need to turn this machine off before the timer reaches 35 minutes, otherwise the prize money will go from counting up 200 Yen a second to only 50 Yen a second.
Mission 4: Pirates have invaded the town, and are after the treasure! The king and townspeople are leaving for safety, over a bridge that will lower when the timer reaches 21 minutes. The pirates are making their way to the building the treasure is housed in. But, there's not just treasure inside. There are also 55 Hunters!! When the pirates open the doors all the Hunters will be released! The players will now need to get across the bridge to safety too. They need to get there for when it lowers (at 21 minutes), and get across quickly, as the bridge only stays down for 1 minute. If they don't get across they'll be stuck with all the Hunters.
All the caught players now get another chance. If they can make it onto the boat without getting caught they're taken to the new area and can start playing again.
Across the bridge, in the new area, the game will begin again with 20 minutes on the clock and 10 Hunters!
Mission 6: In the palace, someone reverses the timer. This means that the playing time starts to get longer and the prize money starts counting back down 200 Yen a second. Someone is going to have to get into the palace and turn the timer back over to fix things, so that the game can end.
SPOILERS: Mari with the guns is brilliant!! "Good luck!"
I wanted her to win so much. She got so close! She should have kept running even when she had the guns, rather than just waiting around for a Hunter. The winner definitely deserved it though, especially towards the end.
The best catch has to be the one when he's trying to get on the cart without a token and the Hunter just appears round the cart. I laughed out loud
Re: Run for Money The story bits (with the king etc) are a bit strange, because you don't expect to see something like that in a game show I guess, but it links all the missions together. And it's funny, for one reason or another!
It is a great show though. Looks like there's an episode every few months. The next one is on the 18th May.
Re: Run for Money Damn it. I couldn't watch part 8 and the following ones, they got deleted.
I wanted to see how they get their second chances. But the first two thirds were really good and king bits got clearer over the several parts and I quite liked the idea of the missions and the possibility that there could be a lot more hunters.
