Cristiano Ronaldo with Hugo... makes about as much sense as Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed 'treating' - if that's the word - us to the sight of Danica Patrick racing alongside Sonic the Hedgehog and Wreck It Ralph.

That's one of the most random pairings ever. Surely they just picked a name of someone famous at random!?

There are lots of copies of this type of game too. What is there to make people download this version rather than any other? A footballer of course!..

They actually have a deal for four years which allows them to produce two games. And Ronaldo mentioned the first game on his social media, so yeah, that's what it is. They are investing money in Ronaldo to make more money with Ronaldo.

I still think it's silly. Hugo Troll Race is an endless runner, too. But it didn't feel like a copy, but rather an original take on that genre. Another reason why it didn't feel like a copy was because Hugo did that type of game in the 90s.

I still want them to release that Hugo Troll Race 2 without Ronaldo.

It's still a really random choice of celebrity to put in a Hugo game. But then celebrity endorsements rarely make sense!

I still don't get how controlling a game with your hone works. And how is there not too much of a delay?

Second part is easier to answer. In our analogue world there were hardly any delays. Maybe a second or so. And it worked when you reacted directly to any danger. That was an advice that German hosts gave their viewers every now and then. But usually the games were designed in a way where you had a few seconds to react anyway.

And for the first question. They use a system called dual-tone multi-frequency signaling. It's basically: every key on your phone has (or had) a specific tone and it's the same tone for every telephone. So the systems can recognize the key that you pressed.

They use the system for service hotlines as well "If you wanna complain about the product, press 1. If you wanna speak with an operator, press 2. If you wanna hear the message again, press 3."

And a bit of geeking about present-day Hugo.

Ages ago they decided to rebrand that Ronaldo & Hugo game. You can still play Hugo. At least when you unlocked him earlier. I don't know if you can still unlock him when you download it today, because they rebranded it as an Ronaldo only game. They don't mention Hugo in the title anymore. Guess they realized that those two worlds don't really fit together.

And then they released Hugo Troll Race 2, but not the skateboard version that was published on the Apple AppStore months ago. It's another train themed game. Looks quite nice and feels much more like a Hugo game. It copied elements that you've seen in other endless runner games (e.g. collection letters for a daily mission) and the boss fights against Scylla were probably inspired by the Sonic games and their boss fights, but it still doesn't feel like they just re-created another game like it was the case with Superstar Skater, which is a carbon-copy of Subway Surfers.

Troll Race 2 is a bit strange in the aspect that you're supposed to free Hugolina after she got kidnapped, but you never get the chance to do so. Whenever you beat Scylla and reach Hugolina in her cage, Scylla shows up again and kidnaps Hugolina before you can reach her.

So in the end you can't really win the game. And while it makes sense for an endless runner to run endlessly, it's still a bit meh for a Hugo game. Especially because you only get to fight Scylla once per run. They should have changed it so that you free her, but still chase after Scylla, making it still an endless runner.

It's just a bit unsatisfying for a fan of the series that you can't free her. Imagine a Mario game where you can't save Princess Peach or a Zelda game where you can't save Hyrule, Zelda and everyone else.

If anything they should add a game mode where you can actually finish the game, similar to Hugo Retro Mania, where you can play the classic version with the rope pulling at the end or an endless version.

I think it hurts the brand a bit, when you can't play it like you were used to play it. And they shouldn't copy games. Hugo Troll Race 2 might not be a carbon-copy, but they are about to release a game which is called Flower Flush.... which is totally not trying to be a Candy Crush. emoticon

I mean, come on... it even rhymes with crush. Remids me of the robot on Robot Wars called Raizer Blade. They had a 'nudge nudge wink wink' face on the whole time about that. At least the didn't do a Ming 3 and basically do a square block version of Razer's chassis and then still say 'I can't imagine what you mean' with a straight face.

Yeah. Modern satellites with their longer delays, presumably for encryption purposes, make something like Hugo unworkable. Shame. Also shame I still can't play any of these things and have to rely on nostalgia... Same old rant, different day.

Thanks for the lesson in dual tones professor Codex. I now understand. Although even back in the analogue TV days there must have been at least a one or two second delay. Imagine playing a game at home and it only reacting a couple of seconds after you pressed the button. Can't have been easy to play.
