At least they must have realised they'd made a mistake by changing him. That, or everyone complained so they had to change it back!

Re: Hugo

That game I mentioned a few months ago wasn't really a new game. It was produced and releaded in Russia a few years ago by a different company. In addition to that, this game is rather crap. I guess they had an official license, because they were also the distributor of the official ITE games in Russia and Poland.

The new owner send Hugo to the troll academy and changed his look again:

I don't understand why they keep changing the look of him. I suppose each owner wants to differentiate their version from the others, but surely keeping him looking the same would make more sense as it'd be more recognisable?

Re: Hugo

It's time for my Hugo Christmas rant... except for the fact that it isn't really a rant. The new owner released a new game for iPod, iPad and Android smart phones. It's called Hugo Retro Mania, so it's quite classic Hugo with classic design and no magical powers. The game is also based on a classic Hugo game (and in fact the first Hugo game ever!). Scylla is in the game, too.

Some more pictures: [sign in to see URL]

Well, the drawings are a little bit different, but that's the Hugo from my childhood. I could have lived with their second design, too, if it hadn't those magical powers. I still hope that it doesn't sell well. They should be disappointed with Hugo and sell the whole franchise to me.. for a single Euro so that I can sell it to a TV station for a new TV show emoticon.

They also have a Hugo safari app with episodes from the former TV show. I think one episode is for free, the rest have to be paid for. You can find a few videos on YT, too.

LOL!! Well I think you'd make a far bigger success of it than they have the last few years.

Are you buying the game? It's really cheap, I dunno if that's a good or bad thing!
And that's the first time I've ever seen a Hugo TV show. Well, a Hugo anything actually. I've still never heard of him outside of this forum emoticon

Re: Hugo

I don't have an iProduct or Android phone, otherwise I had bought it already. But I have lots of old games on CD, they just don't run on Windows Vista or 7. Never found the time to install an older system.

ITE (the old owner) remade some classic games as part of their Agent Hugo series, but they were only played on some Polish TV station. I wish they released those for PC, but they didn't. There are only the "proper" Agent Hugo games.

Nah, at least I've finally seen it at last. I'm no longer in the dark about all the Hugo stuff.

It's stupid that newer Windows don't support old games. You'd have thought that they'd always be backwards compatible. It'd hardly take much to put the capability in there.

Seeing that you are in the dark about Hugo, I will turn into rsmcc and give you a little history lesson. Hugo was first broadcasted in Denmark, in 1990. You were able to phone-in and if you were lucky enough you could play one of the games for the chance to free your family that was kidnapped by Scylla (Heana in Germany), an evil witch.

Hugo came to Germany in 1994 with weekdaily 30 minute-show which was expanded to an hour long show later on. Here is the intro with the second studio:

They also moved to a virtual studio, where Hugo came to life and walked around. Here is the first episode with a living Hugo, it was a world premiere and one of the hosts and the Bavarian Minister of Cultural Affairs activated him at the beginning. If you finished a game with some points remaining, you got a prize. If you get to the end of the game you continued to the rope game where you played for more points. If you had more than 2000 points you got the main prize, otherwise a smaller prize.

The system was later changed and everyone could play for more points, but not in the rope game, but picking a field from a grid. You could still keep, double or half your points thogh. Later it was changed into keeping, doubling or quadrubling your points, probably so that little kids aren't sad when they picked a bad number. Around that time the show (a few months into 1996) the show was also cut back to half an hour and they introduced a high score list for a weekly main prized.

At the end of the year 1996 Hugo was moved to Saturday mornings where it was shown between cartoons. Hexana kept Hugo as a prisoner in her castle and in every short show one kid could play a game. There was still a lucky game to double or quadruble your points and the end of the day one kid could play the final game to free Hugo.

This one is one of the short episodes. The actress who played Hexana also had a role on a daily soap and Hugo made fun of her role and all the kissing they had to do, that's why both laughed.. and then he made a joke about Michal Jackson, so that nobody will notice why they actually laughed

And this is from the final episode which was aired at the end of 1997. Hexana has already left and took her castle with her, becaus she got a new job as an ambassadress
and wasn't allowd to keep Hugo.

During that time Hexana also had her own show, shown after Hugo. It was sponsored by Nintendo and later Sony, they showed new games for the consoles and could win the N64 or later a PlayStation. However, you couldn't play the games on your own, somebody else did it for you. That was strange.

After a 5 months break Hugo returned to German screens on Nickelodeon during on of their live shows. They reintroduced the rope game from the very beginning. However, a month later the channel was closed down and Hugo disappeared.

Later, some other countries introduced a new version, where Hexana kidnapped his family again and took them to a jungle island with her. In the end, same show, but different settings and new characters (some friends for Hugo and a crocodile who helped Hexana). That one is from Poland:

In 2006 a rather new channel wanted to produce a new Hugo show with Agent Hugo (there were also proper Agent Hugo at that time). but that channel couldn't pay the licence fees, so there wasn't a comeback. Agent Hugo made it on Polish TV screens though. This is a bonus game:
.

But Hugo disappeared from Polish screens, too. When the show premiered it was the future, but in the end he was killed by the future, too. You can't play it on digital television anymore, because the delay is too huge. I guess that's why the company sold Hugo, even though they made proper standalone games.

I said it yonks ago and I'll say it again. If I could I would show you something of the Hiudai TNT episode I have on a DVD for old times' sake, and of course the infamous ocassion when he took that oft-mentioned by me IFTA award. "I knew that my two-dimensional personality would beat all the one-dimensional opposition!"
