Re: Countdown Random YouTube surfing threw this up. Remember how Channel 4 tried to emphasise how quaint, "terribly posh", and, well, dull, Countdown was when it started? Well, turns out that at the same time it was finding its feet, De Chiffres et des Lettres was even worse than that. I used to think UKGameshows was being typically 'Britain hates France for no particular reason' levels of nasty when it said "Based on the French original Des Chiffres et des Lettres, which has been running for 40+ years. Can't understand why, because it's slow and boring". But now... maybe they had a point.
Remember, folks, you could be watching the World Paint Drying Championships on the other side.
Since I first started watching episodes when we first got Sky back in my teens, it has been much more interesting. Funny what a few computers and a lick of paint can do for a show's image.
Re: Countdown How did this ever last beyond one episode!? And how come they have a proper numbers board (love the speed she puts them up at) but the letters are done with small cards on a table. You're just watching people play a board game version. In silence.
You could make a more interesting version yourself at home... As I have, with Monkeee
The best bit about the whole thing is the granny at 4:06 in the first video.
Re: Countdown Just to show the difference, that was 1984, this was 2005.
And this is 2013:
Bit more like the show we know now, isn't it?
Although, note that in 2013, they now have 10 letters for the letters game and the Duel round. (We split that concept into the Conundrum and the Teatime Teaser, respectively)
Right, it's now stupid o'clock, I'm off to bed, now! Starting to copy Ginga Head's bad habits!
Re: Countdown La Cible had everything: an intro that was a bit like Going for Gold, the host of Fort Boyard, an endgame that was really tricky and had cool music, and for no reason, a giant spinny camera on a plinth.
--- #1 for misinformation and poorly-disguised slanderous opinion.
Re: Countdown Surprised Channel 4 haven't brought the format. They're clearly desperate for a new afternoon gameshow and everything else they've tried has failed miserably.
