Re: Eurovision

Your joke act could have done quite well. Stefan Raab, the guy who casted our act, took part in the contest in 2000. His song wasn't serious either, but he finished on 5th place.

I think things seem to have changed a bit now though. It did go through a point around the late 90s, early 00s where the joke acts did the best. That's why everyone just laughs at Eurovision really. But, now it seems to be getting more serious (again?). Not serious enough for most countries to put in any effort mind you, but still more serious emoticon

I guess Serbia will get many points again. Their song is called "Ovo je Balkan" (This is Balkan). I don't like the song, but the Eastern country will.

Last year Romania sent "The Balkaan Girls", and it finished pretty 'bleh' in the final.

Anyway, I loved 07-09, but I'm really not feeling this year to be honest with you. The only songs I really like are Turkey's, Lithuania's and Romania's.

All the rest are either OK or plain bad. The Netherlands' is all kinds of awful though.

I haven't heard all songs yet, but the Dutch entry is indeed quite bad.

I'm so happy for Lena, she really deserved it. She is an amazing person, we all love her. I don't know if her last words were translated but she said "I don't know where I should go right now, I just gab a little bit" emoticon

Stefan Raab will search our next entry as well, with the same concept. They announced that a few days before the ESC, because Germany has Lena fever.

I don't like Greece though. We gave them millions and they give us just two points in return. That's not really appreciative. emoticon I guess the heard what our tabloids wrote about them..

Anyway.. I think the show was amazing, not just because Lena won. There were some great entries and that flashmob dance during the voting break was just awesome. And I think the UK entry wasn't the worst one, but it reminded me of a commercial which had a similar song.

Re: Eurovision

Congratulations!.. Can you say that, with Eurovision? I dunno, but anyway emoticon
It was definitely one of the best songs and deserved to win. It was actually a 'proper' song for a change, as apposed to all these gimmicky/Eurovision/cheesy things.

I can't even remember which country gave the UK the most. What was that anyway? 4 points!? Lol! Yeah, it wasn't one of the worst, but it was still rubbish. Even I could have written that song. It had the most obvious rhymes ever. And he couldn't even sing that well.

That big dance thing just showed this country up for what it is anyway. The shots of every other place had people actually (/trying to) do the dance. The clip of the UK had a load of drunk people running through the street acting like idiots. emoticon

Do you have advert breaks in Eurovision in Germany? I don't know if you get to see the filler stuff they show while other countries have adverts.
Anyway, in one of the breaks a host was up at the commentary boxes and went to talk to Graham, our voice-over man. They were pretending it was live, but it was actually filmed on Friday. So he was making comments about himself being interviewed 'live' emoticon I want a video of that! I might find one and post it.

No, we got the full show here in Germany. The public broadcasters are not allowed to interrupt a show with advertising and can't show ads after 8pm. So we got to see Graham Norton, and our guy said it was live as well. But commenting on his own interview is great emoticon I hope we can find a video of that.

The ratings in Germany were fantastic. [sign in to see URL] million people watched it, that was nearly every second person who watched TV (49.1%). It was the second most watched ESC ever, just beaten by the one aired in 1980. Last year only [sign in to see URL] people watched, and the year before just [sign in to see URL] people. The show had a peak of [sign in to see URL]% and 79.3% share in the market.

That shows how much we love Lena. It was a huge hype and Stefan Raab did specials from Oslo all week long (a backstage video featuring John: mostly in English, I love how every crew is filming each other emoticon)

I think BILD (the German Sun) is a little bit pissed that Lena won. They didn't liked her and Stefan Raab and run some nasty stories, but they changed their mind when they realized hat nobody likes their stories. RTL also tried to find a skelleton in her closet. They are probably disappointed that people loved Lena, while nobody loved the people from Idol.

Re: Eurovision

I think the reason we sucked is because we can't take it seriously. The only time we did in the last few years, we came fifth.

And thank God Germany won, at least it wasn't a ballad. Turkey coming second was a nice surprise too.

I wasn't that surprised about Turkey. Their song was different to any other song, similar to Lordi a few years ago.

We already found our new entry for next year, it will be Lena again. I hope they change their mind. I love Lena, but she won't win a second time, even if people like her. But that's typical for Germany. As soon as they find something sepcial or successful, they over-use it and this will led to an overkill.

It makes me laugh though. Everyone says "Oh it's just a big joke, no one talks it seriously. We just watch it to laugh at people" and then when we lose so badly they're outraged. Well, why do people get annoyed when it's "only a joke"? Makes up your minds emoticon
I thought coming last was great. We're never going to win, or even get in the top 3, so we might as well come bottom of everyone and achieve that at least emoticon

I didn't like Turkey. But then I don't like that type of music. I couldn't even understand/hear the singer anyway. And those strobe lights were way too much!

They're seriously using Lena again? I really can't see the same person winning twice in a row either. Last year's winner sings the old song at the start... So she'll be singing that, and then coming back later to sing a new one!? And if she did win again, would she present the trophy to herself? emoticon

I've found the Graham interview bit on iPlayer and recorded it. Here we go emoticon:
