Re: Eurovision First time I heard the UK entry too, and I hated it. Mind you, never even heard the Irish one (don't like to spoil the big night my listening to the songs in advance), but it was probably rubbish anyway...
But I'm convinced it was the accent that did it for Norway. I swear!

definetely one reason (remember the countries who gave 12 points to the cutest guy). But I think that Norway had the best strategy, because they combined different styles (pop, nordic folk, East-European sounds and a guy who was born in the Sovet Union). Germany often uses "American songs", which don't work in every European country.
Re: Eurovision I guess it's time to bring this thread back to life.
Most (or mabye all) countries have chosen their contestants for this year's contest. The final will be on May 29.
The German act was picked last Friday. Usually there was one preliminary decision show were several known acts competed against each other with the viewers picking their favorite. But after disappointing results at the finals and general lack of interest in the contest, they droped the preliminary decision and picked an act on their own.
But the situation didn't got better for Germany, so the NDR (or ARD in general) wanted Stefan Raab to help them with the Song Contest. He is a well-known entertainer, has a lot of creative ideas (e.g. Schlag den Raab/beat the star) and was involved in the contest for three times, always successful. So Das Erste/NDR (public broadcaster) and ProSieben (commercial broadcaster)worked together for the first time and searched for a new German act (Our star for Oslo). That was done similar to Pop Idol, but without nasty comments. Furthermore the audition process was not broadcasted.
In the end Germany voted for Lena Meyer Landrut and for the song "Satellite".
In the final the two remaining girls had to perform 3 songs each. Two were the same and one was written just for them. Unfortunatelly viewers didn't vote for Lena's personal song. I think it fits better to her personality.
I hope she will finish on a good place, she deserves it and then people would stop whining about the bad results. At least people are interested in the contest again.
And I don't know if the videos work outside Germany, but you can watch all performances of the show here:

Re: Eurovision The UK song was chosen on Friday. Coincidentally, it was written by someone who used to be a judge on Pop Idol. He picked his favourite three out of a number of singers, then viewers voted out of those three.
But, the song is rubbish and the singers/winner are bad too. They sounded like any semi-okay person on karaoke. That's the UK coming right down the bottom again then!
Can't listen to those videos at the moment, but it's got to be better than the UK one. Especially if she was picked through those auditions.
The videos on that site actually work for me. No region blocking for a change!
Re: Eurovision Well, that'll just fuel the yearly 'Eastern Block' voting moaning then!
I've not heard any other songs yet. Most do seem to be getting better every year now, though. Sometimes it seems like an actual song contest, rather than a freak show (..to put it lightly, eh ). Only sometimes
