Well, I'll post the part about the Shoot 'n Loot, since that is relatively unknown to most casual viewers.

I've been wondering for a while... why are there so many things in the show inspired by American sports? Grid Iron, Home Run, Catch It... Is it a thing in Japanese culture to be interested in American sports? There is essentially zero interest in these sports in the UK so I was never keen on watching these games.

I know that Japan is very big on Baseball, which explains a lot of these. Also, I think getting Animal inspired some of those sport games since he was a baseball player.

Grid Iron I'm not as sure - but then again they were starting to theme most of their games around then, so maybe that was just one of the ideas they had.

I hate real sports, but I do enjoy all of the TC adaptations emoticon

Baseball is basically Japan's national sport. I'd say it's bigger there than here in the States.

The Japanese also play American Football all the way up to the pro level. The game "The Longest Yard" is more based on the 1974 Burt Reynolds film than anything.

So, I actually have a fun fact.

The "lasers" in the Show Down aren't lasers. They're actually light beams.

Pointing lasers at other people would be careless and dangerous if pointed into someone's eyes.

Thank you! That's one that should surprise some people.

The greenish beams we see are obviously added in, right? It's just an effect to show us where the beams are going?

I was always surprised that they were able to add the laser effect. The fact that in the 80s it must have been relatively easy to do, seeing as they were able to do it every week, is what surprises me!

Yeah, the beams you see are just for looks. I was watching an episode last night (Episode 88, the first with the beam guns,) and I thought "Wait, lasers don't flash."

I'm pretty sure that the beam graphics are early computer graphics added in post-production. I'd like to know how they did it.
